Day 27 (hike day 2)

Her

It’s been a week since I met this guy, and I still haven’t given him a nickname, so here are a few options.

Bitchy McBitch (personal fav)

Asshole

Sergeant Jerk

Douchebag of the Year

Soldier Boy sounds too nice and he’s being too much of a jerk to deserve it

I don’t know what it was that I said that hit a nerve, but his assholery is completely unjustified. I’m not going to waste my breath arguing with him, so I’m writing it down instead. He barely looked at me as we folded up our equipment this morning and hit the trail again.

Fine by me. Just because we’ve teamed up doesn’t mean we have to like each other.

I tried my parents’ phones again when we paused. I told him I was going to pee and he kind of groaned back, which is the most talkative he’s been today.

I don’t think I even expect them to answer anymore. Hearing their voices in the answering machines is both a comfort and torture, but after Mr. Shotgun gave me the cold shoulder, I’ll take whatever normal, sane human voice I can get.

When I came back, he bitched that we can’t keep stopping every five minutes if we want to get this hike over with, as if he didn’t pee as well.

Fuck him. Seriously.

The gun thing was a low blow. Is he really going to scare me into…? I don’t even know the right word to use. ‘Submitting’? Is this what he wants to do? He wants me to keep my head down and nod at his words and never talk back, even when he says shit like that?

Well, tough luck. He’s got the wrong girl. And I’m the only girl he currently has, so, take that, Sergeant Jerk.

It’s not like he’ll actually shoot me.
