I woke up a little confused since it was dark. It took me a few seconds to realize I was on my side, facing Daniel in my bed, and the memories of everything that happened hit me like a brick to the face. I touched my forehead and winced.

God, that fucker had a hard nose.

I got up slowly and quietly, grabbed my phone and earbuds, and went to the kitchen. I drank a glass of water, shuffled my home playlist, and closed my eyes, sighing at the first song that started. This was how I zoned out and let go, and I needed it now.

I left my phone on the couch with one earbud, still not completely ready to block out my senses with someone else in the apartment. Eyes closed, I let my body do what it wanted.
