10. Riot St. James #4
“Why didn’t you tell me that you like my name? That’s what you were supposed to say next. You sitting your goofy ass there trying not to smile, knowing that you like the name I just told you,” I was beginning to learn that he talked a lot of shit.
A lot of the things that he said to me, I felt like he was just itching to get a reaction out of me. It was almost as if he loved it when I snapped on him. Quickly figuring that out, I was going to stop doing it, especially if he was getting a kick out of it.
“But yeah. I got a little brother. His name Diego. He’s the same age as you.
He’s entertaining somebody at the moment, and it’s her birthday, so they up in Turks.
He won’t be back for a couple of days. He’s usually the one that’s running this stash house, but since he’s not here, that’s why I got Mook doing it,” he said.
I wasn’t going to even question him about knowing my age. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if this nigga knew my social security number.
“Your mom, and dad are in the picture?” I asked, wanting to know.
“Yeah. They married. You want to meet them?” he asked me, as I tossed the stack of money on the table that I just finished counting, and I stood up.
I stood up because his eyes were on me hard, making me nervous.
Even as I was counting the money, I felt like my hands started shaking.
I didn’t want him to catch on to that, so I stood, went over to the wall, and I placed my hands at my side.
Remember earlier when I said that I would get around Dolo, and act awkward?
I felt like I was getting ready to start doing that again.
“Why you went over there?” he asked me.
“Because I’m finished,” I said.
Before he got a chance to respond, one of his phones started buzzing on the table. As if I would disappear on him, and he wouldn’t have the pleasure of looking at me anymore, he kept his eyes on me, reaching over for his phone, grabbing it, and placed it to his ear.
I have never in my life looked at a man like this and thought the kind of things that I was thinking until now.
I hated this shit for me too, especially since I knew that I wasn’t the only woman that was checking for him.
I was probably just one of a million other bitches that found him attractive.
His face was one of those that was unique, and I couldn’t stand here, and say that he looked like someone else because there wasn’t anyone in the world that I felt looked like Dolo.
Those perfect thick eyebrows, his full lips, beautiful brown eyes, the perfect line up, and short cut, and the kicker for me was the bulge at the side of his waist, where his gun was.
I used to say that I didn’t have a type because I just wasn’t experienced in the men department, but my type was whatever the fuck Dolo was.
“Yo,” he answered the phone, standing up from his chair.
The black joggers that he had on were hanging off his waist a little bit, so he pulled them up.
I stood with my back still up against the wall, arms folded, looking at him, as he cradled the phone in the crook of his neck, and he walked over to one of the tables where the duffle bags were.
He picked up one, brought it over to the table, where we had been counting the money.
“Nigga, what? What the fuck you mean he got them niggas over there in my shit? Them bitch ass niggas been looking to get a reaction out of me for months. They saw me at that listening party the other night, and they wanted me to say something to them so bad, but I kept it pushing and chose not to pay them weak ass niggas any attention. Aight. Ima give them the reaction that they been itching to get. Tell them niggas to stay right there. I’m not too far,” he snapped, and then he tossed the phone on the table.
“You riding with me, or you going to be scared and make me drop you back off at home?” he asked, walking over to me, and he stood right in front of me.
“What would make you think that I’m scared, and I need you to drop me back home?” I asked, cocking my head to the side, waiting on a response from him.
“Aight. Come on then. Let me handle this shit, and I’ll come back, and get these bags, and drop them off to the next location,” he told me.
I didn’t have a clue what that phone call was about, where him and I were getting ready to go for that matter, but here I was, following behind him, waiting to see what we were going to get into.
We walked out front, where Mook had fallen asleep on the couch.
He was sitting up straight, with his head leaned back, snoring, and there was a gun resting in his lap.
Dolo walked over to him, kicking at his leg, and Mook immediately woke up, popping his head up, and looking at Dolo like he wanted to slap the shit out of him for kicking him like that.
“Wake the fuck up, nigga! Fuck you think you at? On an island somewhere, having a tropical vacation or some shit? It’s dope being cooked in the kitchen, and you falling asleep.
Pay attention to what the fuck is happening around you.
I’ll be back. I’m about to make a quick move,” Dolo snapped on him.
“Nigga, I wasn’t sleep,” he lied. His eyes were red from the good sleep that he had, plus when we walked out here, you could hear the heavy snoring that he was doing.
“Aight man. Stay up. I’ll be back,” was all Dolo said to him, and Mook just nodded his head.
We walked over to the door, where Dolo opened it, allowed me to step out first, and he was able to lock the door from the outside.
We went over to the stairs, took them down, and right when we got to the first floor, there was a massive rottweiler posted there, and he didn’t have a leash or anything on him.
I was truly afraid of dogs. Much didn’t scare me in life, but I would literally piss on myself at the sight of a dog, especially a big one.
Following behind my brother when I was younger, we got chased by a pitbull, and I swear I saw my life flash right before my eyes that afternoon. I haven’t fucked with dogs ever since.
The rottweiler barked at us and then started running our way. I screamed, moved back, and I crashed right into Dolo, who was standing behind me. The dog was getting closer, so I did the only thing that would make the most sense, which was jump on Dolo, and he held onto me with just one arm.
“Fuck is you screaming for? This motha fuckin dog don’t fuck with you, just as much as you not trying to fuck with him.
He’s a good boy. What’s up, Blue? Where your mama at, man?
” Dolo was unfazed by the dog, as he talked to him, as if the dog was supposed to talk back, and tell Dolo where his mom was.
The dog jumped up, wanting to get to Dolo, and I was out here screaming, as if someone was killing me, even though I was still in his arms.
“Blue, how the hell did your ass get out of that back door? I should beat your ass. Get your ass in this fuckin house! Out here scaring this damn girl!” the owner of the dog finally made her way from the back.
I don’t even know where she came from. It was dark out, and it’s as if she just blended into the shadows, coming from nowhere.
“He not bothering nobody, Tima. Her ass just being scary as fuck. I should drop your ass,” Dolo taunted, acting as if he was getting ready to put me down, only causing me to scream even louder, and I pulled on the neckline of the shirt that he was wearing, stretching it.
“Dolo, stop it. Leave that damn girl alone. You know everybody don’t like dogs. Get your ass over here, Blue,” she fussed at the dog again, and he happily took his ass over to her, after scaring the shit out of me.
I kept my eyes on the dog until I no longer saw him, and that’s when I got down from Dolo’s arms. I was so fuckin embarrassed. So much so that I started walking ahead of him, and I could hear him behind me laughing.
“You think you so gangsta, but your tough ass scared of a dog. This the second time I saved your life, and I didn’t get a thank you,” he fucked with me, coming on the side of me.
I ignored him, walking fast, trying to get to the parking lot, just in case that dog got out again, and he came running over here in our direction.
Dolo reached his hand over, putting it on my chest, as if he wanted to see how fast my heart was beating. Before he could even do that though, I knocked his hand out of the way.
“That dog really shook you up like that? Why you scared of dogs? Most people like them,” he spilled.
“Well, I’m not most people!” I snapped.
“Obviously! Why don’t you like them though?” he still wanted to know.
“I’m not telling you. You’re playing on my fears, and I don’t like that. I just got the shit scared out of me, and your laughing at me!” I yelled at him.
As confident as I was, I just hated being embarrassed, and I didn’t like to be the butt of a joke. When Dolo heard how serious I was, that’s when all the laughing came to an end, and he jumped in front of me, blocking my path, and a serious look appeared on his face.
“I ain’t playing on your fears. I’m the last one to ever do some shit like that.
That’s corny to me. That shit just took me off guard because I didn’t expect you to be afraid of dogs.
Blue a cool dog. His bitch ass soft as fuck, and he not going to bust a grape.
Whatever fears you do have, toss them bitches out the window when you get around me.
Ain’t shit going to happen to you while I’m around.
You know that too, which is exactly why you jumped on me when Blue came running our way,” his tone was serious, and it held a lot of power to it.
After he made that clear, he dropped it, and he moved out of the way, so that we could finish walking to his car.
I didn’t have a clue what was up ahead of us, but I was riding.
Even though his ass just annoyed the living shit out of me for laughing at me, I still didn’t want to leave him.
I wanted to comb the streets with him and see what else was in store for the rest of the night.
