Shared Secrets

‘Where are we going?’

Styx asked again,

as I led her from the cave,

with its safe mossy rocks.

I turned to her.

‘You will see, I promise.’

Styx grumbled to herself,

‘Just because you’re the Goddess

of Oracles doesn’t mean

everything has to be a secret.’

I laughed at her words

and shot back,

‘Patience! Have I lied to you yet

or led you astray?’

Styx retorted, ‘There is

a first time for everything.’

I stopped suddenly when I saw it,

the way the golden sands in front of

Styx’s home finally gave way

to white sands in front of mine,

the sun catching the crimson flowers

and the violet beyond,

my most precious secret.

I took Styx’s hand.

‘We are here,’ I said.
