153. Styx’s Cry Pierced the Air

Styx’s Cry Pierced the Air

and it was as though the whole world

began to eclipse slowly.

I turned my head to see Metis

look up in the direction of the cry.

Metis’s eyes met mine.

Yellow and cold at first,

but then recognition as her gaze

widened to panic and she ran.

She ran toward us but Perses

stood and blocked her path.

I did not want to leave Styx’s hand

as she cried out louder.

She had always said she was afraid

of bringing a God child into this world.

But as Perses blocked Metis from us,

his large, muscular body in her way,

I had to let Styx’s hand go

and grasp his shoulder.

‘She is our sister,’ I said fiercely.

‘She will not hurt Styx. Let her pass.’

Perses hesitated,

but saw the fire in my eyes.

Without another word,

he let Metis join us.
