168. It Was Gaia Who Spoke

It Was Gaia Who Spoke

Our grandmother, with her forest hair

and her tired eyes, looked upon us and said,

‘Children and grandchildren,

this quarrel is misplaced.

As the oldest of you, we too

had to make room for the new Gods.

We handed so much of the realms

to our children as the next generation.

It is the duty of the old to make way for the new.

This is the greatest lesson you will ever learn.

Let go of your hubris

and allow new blood to rule.’

While her words were wise and keen

in her strategy to avoid conflict,

I could see that neither the Titans nor Zeus

and his brothers and sisters seemed

appeased in any way.
