179. Hubris

Hubris

Eras into posterity,

mortals will tell stories

about how the Gods hate hubris.

What they will not say

is how it was Zeus

who hated it most.

The Titans had determined

that they would win.

That Zeus and his siblings

were outnumbered.

Victory was already

marked by Titan pride.

When the war first began,

the Titan brothers utilized

every strength they had,

and for an eon, it looked

as though Zeus and his siblings

were easy enough to defeat.

But Zeus was a wily God

and he knew that old deities

would also have old enemies

waiting to be recruited.

He appealed to his grandmother,

Gaia, who sent aid his way.

The Titans did not realize that Zeus

and his siblings were driven

by a vengeance so powerful

it could destroy everything.

Even the most ancient

of Titan Gods.
