Chapter 63
Tears ran down my face as Theo kissed me. I clung to him tightly, so grateful he was alive.
He pulled away, peering intently into my eyes.
“I was so worried about you,” I whispered.
“I’m sorry, baby. It’s over. It’s all over now. Thanks to you! You saved all of us!” His hands cradled my face. “It’s so good to see you. You’re so fucking beautiful, Ev.”
Everyone was looking on but I didn’t care. I felt the disapproval of West’s gaze and ignored it.
“Oh, Theo,” I said, as he wiped my tears.
“I love you, Everleigh. I’ve loved you forever, and I’ll spend the rest of my life showing you just how much.”
“Theo!” I cried, as he pulled me close.
“Love? Again?” West said, with a teasing smile.
“No, West, I’m talking to Everleigh, but since you’re here, yes, I love your sister. Like I already told you. It’s true, whether you like it or not.”
West shook his head, a slow smile spreading across his face. “I’ve never thought anybody would be good enough for my sister, Theo, you were right about that. But — that’s because nobody ever showed me that they could love her properly. But now — if there’s anyone I trust enough to keep her safe, then it’s you, brother.”
He walked over and embraced Theo, both of them patting each other on the back. Theo was beaming as he replied. I looked on in blissful disbelief.
“Thank you, brother. I’ll take good care of her,” he said, before turning back to me. “If she lets me.”
I smiled up at the two of them, my heart bursting with love.
Without a word, I flung myself into Theo’s arms. He bent his head, kissing me deeply, my head spinning with joy.
“Alright, alright, there’s plenty of time for that later,” West said. “What the hell are we going to do with these two assholes?”
Jill and Harlan lay huddled together on the ground, their futures in our hands.
