Epilogue

“You ready to see Mami kick this girl's ass?” Josue was going over elaborate combos with Mónica like he'd been teaching her her whole life. I turned around from the vanity, cutting my eyes at him as I readied myself.
“Josue! Language please,” I begged, but all he did was repeat it in Spanish, something Mónica was actually better at gaining the fluency after having lived with her grandmother.
“You know, one of these days we're going to teach Mami better Spanish. She knows all the bad stuff, but none of the good stuff,” he winked at me from the reflection of the mirror. Picking her up, he brought her closer to me, looking good stepping into his role as stepdad.
“Give Mami a kiss and wish her buena suerte*.” Mónica hopped from his arms to mine, giving me a kiss on the cheek and wished me an excited “Buena suerte*!”
“Aww, thank you, baby.” This time I directed my words toward him.
“But tonight, I don't need luck. Whatever happens, getting this far? That's all I've ever dreamed of.” Josue took Mónica in his arms, leaning in to give me a sweet kiss.
“Win or lose, mi amor. I'm yours and you're mine. Pa what?”
“Para siempre*,” I smiled.
“Eso! Para siempre*,” he leaned in to give me another kiss, shooting me a cocky wink. “Now go out there, Medina. You’ve got a title to win.”
I smirked, giving him his usual energy back. “My name’s not Medina anymore,” I corrected, as the corner of his mouth fought the urge to smile.
“Alright, get out there Mendez.”

Thank you for reaching the end!
