Chapter 7 Bronn

brONN

If Mrs. Brooks thought I was going to leave her and Adrianna unprotected, then she’s more insane than I thought. And I’m beginning to think she’s pretty insane, and perhaps that’s the reason Adrianna came back.

The woman chased me down the garden wielding a rolling pin over her head. I could've tackled her to the ground, but it’s not a good look, tackling the client’s wife.

She was so upset I thought it was best to leave and wait it out until she calms down.

It was stupid of me to make a move on Adrianna when she’s my client’s daughter. But the little temptress was too much to resist.

And I don’t regret a thing. Thinking about the sound it made as my hand connected with her soft ass makes my cock stiffen. I taught the brat a lesson, but I won’t claim her until she knows the games are over and she’s mine for good.

I placated her mother by leaving the premises, but I don’t work for Mrs. Brooks. I work for her husband.

There’s no way I was going to leave my post and leave Adrianna unprotected. I’ve parked across the road so I can keep an eye on the place. I’ll sleep in my car if I have to.

My client knows his wife has kicked me out, though he doesn’t know why, and I’ve let him know I’m still protecting his women.

If it was me, I’d be right on the private jet home, but I guess not everyone puts family first.

There’s movement through the gates and the flicker of brightly colored fabric. My heart skips a beat at the sight of Adrianna running toward the gates. I’m almost twice her age, but she makes me feel like a lovesick fool.

She must have just found out I’m gone and she’s running to me, and that makes my heart lift. But it’s also stupid. She’s safe behind those gates.

Adrianna goes straight to the keypad without even looking to check if it’s safe.

“Don’t do it,” I mutter. But it’s too late.

The heavy gate swings slowly open, and Adrianna is standing on the other side, shielding her eyes against the glaring afternoon sun.

Her golden hair catches in the sunlight, her full-length dress clinging to her hips and sweeping down her legs.

I step out of my car, my heart racing at the sight of her.

Her gaze meets mine and she smiles, her whole face lighting up just for me. My chest opens, and it feels like sunlight rushing straight into my heart.

I smile back at her, stupidly, goofily.

Movement catches my eye, and the smile slides off my face. I’ve been too caught up in the vision that is Adrianna to notice the car cruising down the street.

Alarm grips my stomach, and my whole body tenses, my training spurring into action.

Adrianna doesn’t see the car, and she starts through the gate, jogging down the grassy verge to the sidewalk.

“Go back!”

Confusion crosses her face and she hesitates, but it’s too late. The car screeches to a halt next to her.

I sprint across the road, my piece drawn as a man jumps out of the car.

Adrianna’s face turns to terror, real terror, and she screams my name as the man grabs her and pulls her into the car.

It’s like he’s grabbing my heart. I feel her terror, her anger as he bundles her into the car.

“Adrianna!” I lunge at the car, my fingers scraping the back bumper as it takes off with the door still open.

A bolt of fear goes through me as the car screeches away. They’ve got my girl—my heart—in that car.

Racing back to my own car, I throw myself into the driver’s seat and take off after them.

At the end of the street, they turn onto the coastal road heading south.

My heart’s racing and anger floods my veins, but I make myself stay calm. If I’m going to get Adrianna back, I can’t let my emotions overpower me.

On a hands-free device, I make a call to Seth. I’m going to get her back, but I need the help of my Army buddies. We were an elite team in the field, and I know my brothers will be there when I need them. It’s time to call in some favors.
