Chapter 39
CALLUM
All of us guys are sitting in the shared living space of this giant cabin Graham and Dee booked us for the week before the wedding.
The cabin is full of wood beams, and the space is very rustic and warm.
Tomorrow night, we will all crash in the lodge after the wedding.
The trek from the lodge to this cabin, while on the same property, it is a ten-minute golf cart ride up here.
We all have glasses of “the good stuff”, as Graham would put it.
They made sure to bring a bottle of their favorite Macallan Whiskey for us all to drink tonight.
My glass sits gently on the arm of the couch, my hand wrapped around it to ensure it doesn’t fall, when I hear sounds from the girls’ room get louder, but then quiet again.
Like someone opened and closed the door quickly.
Then the rhythmic tap, tap, tap, of high heels sounds come toward the stairs.
Looking up, I catch the sight of Kyra standing at the top of the stairs. Her eyes are closed and she takes a few deep breaths and gives her shoulders a few shakes like she is trying to shake off nerves.
Oh, Sunflower, what are you up to?
The dress she is wearing is show-stopping.
Much like the one she wore to the bar a few weeks ago, she had gotten taped into it.
Her breasts look like they are defying gravity.
It is black and slinky, hanging to every biteable curve.
I try to subtly adjust my boner that is trying so hard to bust through the black dress slacks I am wearing.
Fuck.
She takes one final deep breath and straightens her shoulders before she rests a hand on the railing and walks down the stairs. Her eyes look out over the room. Come on, Sunflower. Look at me Beautiful. It’s like she knows right where I am sitting, because she looks at everyone but me.
Finally, her gaze meets mine, and she instantly looks away. Can’t she feel the heat in my gaze? Does she think I’m upset with her? As much as my heart breaks every single time she turns me away, I could never be upset at her.
Her heels click across the hardwood floors.
Swirling my whiskey in my glass, I keep my eyes on the amber liquid.
Out of the top of my vision, I see the shiny toes of her heels standing in front of me.
Deciding to play this out a bit, I slowly lift my eyes to hers.
Taking in every single inch of her gorgeous body.
When my eyes meet hers, I shoot back the rest of my whiskey in one swallow. My lips curl into a smirk.
“Hey, Sunflower.” My voice is deep with wanting. I will never not want this woman.
“Hi.” She stares above my head.
“Nope, you came over to me. Look. At. Me.” She doesn’t want to obey at first, and then I stand in front of her. She tips her head back to be able to meet my gaze. My six-foot-eight frame towers over her.
“Can we talk?” She tries to break eye contact again, and I gently grab her chin to keep her looking at me.
“Of course. Let’s go to my room.”
Taking her small hand in mine, I lead her to my room. I took the space furthest away from everyone else. I am practically in a whole wing by myself. But I wanted to be able to avoid her if I needed to.
She came to me…
I hoped and prayed that this day would come, but honestly, the girl is so stubborn that she wouldn’t let anything good happen to her ever. Her heels echo down the empty halls that lead to my room. She is taking twice as many steps as me and still struggling to keep up with my long legs.
“Cal, my legs are a thousand times shorter than yours, and I’m in heels.”
I don’t even think about it before I have her scooped up in my arms, bridal style. She has definitely lost weight since the last time I had her in my arms.
I will have to rectify that situation.
“Callum,” she cries out. “Put me down! I can walk, I just needed you to slo-“
“Isn’t happening, Sunflower. I’m not going to give your head a single chance to second-guess this conversation. I can get us there faster.”
She pulls her head away from my shoulder and gives me a quick peck on the cheek. My heart fucking stops in that moment.
God, have I missed you.
