Chapter 43

KYRA

Chernobyl sounds like it is melting down this morning. The alarm going off is making my head throb.

“Fuck off!” Nyx groans from the other side of the bed. We both slept in last night.

Cal tried to usher me back to his room last night after a few too many tequila shots. Nyx put an end to that right away.

“Nyx, come on.” Cal pouts, and it’s adorable. “I just got my girl back. Let me have this night.”

“Nope. No way, big guy. She can play with your jewelry tomorrow night.” She grimaces as she says that and then shakes her head to wipe the image out of her mind.

“What jewelry are we discussing, Little Witch?” Graham walks up and slings an arm over Nyx’s shoulders.

“Nothing.” I try to change the topic. “Nyx is claiming me for tonight, and your brother is pouting about it.”

“Let the girls have their night, Little Bro. Let’s go put them to bed.” Graham scoops Nyx up in his arms. Cal follows suit, and I am swept up in a bridal hold as well.

Demitri left the dinner an hour or so ago, just before midnight. He made some big deal about not seeing the bride on the day of the wedding.

“I am her actual husband. I refuse to start our marriage with bad luck.” He murmured before he left the room where we had all been partying.

Graham totally gave him a quick jab to the ribs for claiming he was her actual husband.

Nothing too hard, just hard enough to make his point.

Once the guys carried our drunk asses to our room, they tucked us in.

Groaning, I open my eyes and look around the room. On the end table by my side, there is a giant bottle of red Gatorade, my favorite, and some Excedrine.

He even takes care of you when he’s not here.

Sitting up in the giant bed, I snatch the drink and chug some of it. Hoping that the electrolytes will revive me.

“Rise and shine, sleepyheads,” Molly’s drawl echoes through the room.

“Ugh, someone turn the Georgia peach off, please!” Nyx groans, covering her head with her pillow.

“Morning, Molls,” I raise my Gatorade bottle to her in a cheers motion. At that moment, the door bursts open again.

“Wake up, my beautiful girls! We have a wedding to get ready for!” Alyra’s smiling face comes into my view.

“Argh. Who the fuck stuck sunshine up Aly’s ass?” Nyx groans. “Isn’t that your job, Kyra?”

We all laugh at Nyx. Molly and Aly take their suitcases and garment bags into the giant walk-in closet. I have never seen a closet this big in a hotel room, but this is the bridal suite. I guess we need space to get ready.

“I’m going to go shower.” I climb out of the gigantic bed and head for the shower.

Graham stands at the entrance to the forested path to the ceremony site. We watch him adjust the sleeves of his Dress Blues. He takes off his cover and fiddles with his hair, then places the hat back on his head and adjusts his uniform yet again.

“He’s just as nervous as I am, I swear.” Nyx stands just behind me, watching her fiancé through the glass.

“Miss Sanders, are you ready?” The new event organizer walks through the door. She was just making sure Dee and Graham were set. “Stand back, Nyx, we don’t want Graham to spot you yet.”

She opens the door and then sticks her hand out towards me to help me navigate the stairs to the lodge. I cross the small gravel drive to where Graham is standing.

“Hey, Ky. You look beautiful.” He leans down to give me a quick hug. I am a little sister to him and Dee.

“Thank you. Ready to go marry your girl?” I elbow him playfully in the side before linking my arm through his.

“Well, Dee is marrying her, but yeah!” His smile gets brighter at the thought of being committed to Nyx.

The pathway glows with the small lamps lining the path and the Edison lights that are strung through the trees. I feel like I am walking into a fairytale, and I am so damn excited for my best friend.

We approach the ceremony site, and my jaw drops. Black and red roses cover most surfaces. There are flowers and lanterns hanging from the trees. This screams Nyx, and I love it for her.

An archway stands at the end of the aisle where their officiant and Demitri stand. Demitri is also looking handsome in his Dress Blues. A girl can always appreciate a man in a Marine Corps dress uniform.

Fairy lights twinkle throughout the flowers, and it overlooks a gorgeous cliffside. We stand far enough back that I’m not worried I’m going to fall right off, but the mountains in the distance glow in the setting sun.

There is a shift in music. I look up the aisle, and there stands my gorgeous best friend.

Standing arm-in-arm with her “dad”. Captain Montegomery looks dapper in his formal uniform.

I know Nyx tried for months to get him to wear a suit, but he said that he couldn’t be in a suit if the guys were wearing their blues.

Taking a quick peek at the seats where our friends and family sit. I spot Callum sitting in the front row on the guys' side of the aisle. Fuck, he’s also wearing his Dress Blues. My pussy can’t withstand this temptation.

You have to behave at least until we get through the reception shit.

“Duh,” I say quietly.

“Ky, did you say something?” Dee asks without taking his eyes off his bride.

“Nope, don’t mind me.” I feel my cheeks heat at the embarrassment.

Making eye contact with Cal was the worst decision because he smirks at me and gives me a quick wink. I mouth a quick fuck you to him, and he responds with a single word.

“Later.”
