Chapter 6 The Secret Visitor
Xu Fengwan would not bear to let me die. She would not let me live too happily either.
The damp environment was not suitable for healing wounds. Even the medicine for illness was icy cold every day.
Fortunately she had removed all the ropes from my body. She probably thought a crippled person could not cause trouble.
The night was slightly cool. I opened a crack in the window. I could see the bright moonlight.
A black shadow flashed past and silently stood by the window.
I smiled a little. “Does the Xu residence let you come and go so freely?”
The black shadow pushed open the window blocking most of the moonlight. Even without seeing his face I knew it was the thief I had seen half a year ago.
“Nothing worth stealing here.” My throat felt like a broken gong from lack of water.
The black shadow still did not speak. He turned over and entered the room placing a bag of Malt Candy by the bedside.
Only then did I see his chin covered in stubble. His eyes were full of red bloodshot. His body carried a cold aura.
Just as I wanted to speak he pressed his finger on my wound. Pain made me almost cry out. He did not stop. Three quick moves removed all the things wrapped around my wounds. Then he rewrapped them with the ointment he had brought.
After everything he glanced back at me once. Then he jumped out the window and disappeared into the night.
I took out a Malt Candy from the bag placed it in my mouth and carefully felt it melt slowly on my tongue. Then it filled my entire mouth.
How sweet it really was.
How could eating one candy feel so sweet?
I had my bedhead occasionally filled with the Peach Blossom Pastry from East City, the Glutinous Rice Cake from West City, the Braised Pork Knuckle from Juxiang Pavilion, and the new jewelry and rouge from Meijiao Pavilion.
Among them, the one I liked the most was that small sandalwood hairpin.
Although it was just a simple hairpin, it was carved with a small plum blossom on it.
I had always loved plum blossoms the most.
