Can’t Catch A Break. #2

“You got two minutes to say whatever you wanna say, and then I'm going to take my shower so I can head home to my girlfriend,” I tell her, crossing my arms and leaning against the wall. She rolls her eyes. “Roll your eyes all you want, Sasha. You know I don’t fuck with you, so I don’t know why you’re always trying to hold a conversation with me. ”

“This isn’t about you, Jakayla,” she snaps, saying my name like it was a curse. “Trust and believe, I wouldn’t even be entertaining your bitter ass if it weren’t for Zseyah.”

“Bitter, huh?” I chuckle, nodding. “Shit, if anyone is bitter, it’s you, not me. As I said, you don’t have to be all up in my face. I’m not the one begging for attention.”

“And what the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“Exactly what you think,” I retort, pushing off the wall to stand at my full height once again. “Cut the shit, Sasha. Why are you really giving Zee the run around? We both know that you don’t care about Serenity, so what’s your play?”

“My play is that I want to see my daughter,” she argues, and I smack my lips because she can’t be serious.

“Bullshit,” I scoff. “You’re not fooling me, Sasha.

If that were the case, you would’ve asked to see her already.

You would’ve shown up to court instead of constantly pushing it back.

Admit it. You don’t care about Serenity.

You’re only doing this to try to create a rift between Zee and me, but I have news for you, sweetheart: It’s not going to work.

” She doesn’t reply. “You can throw a million rocks at the house we built, but I promise you, you’ll never shatter it. ”

“You know what, think whatever you want about me, but just know that when I get custody of my daughter back, I’m going to make sure that you never get to see her again.”

I step closer to her, towering over her by a couple of inches.

“Sasha, you don’t want these problems, I can guarantee you that,” I inform her.

“You actin’ real bold because for some delusional reason, you think you have the upper hand, when you barely have a horse in this race.

But I promise you, as I stand here and breathe, if you ever threaten to take my daughter from me again, Imma show you just how much I don’t play about that little girl.

I’ve been the one helping raise her while you were out there doing god knows what.

She doesn’t deserve someone like you as a parent anyway, and I’m not about to let you think that you deserve the chance to be in her life. ”

“Well, good thing it’s not up to you then, right?”

“You know what, I don’t have the energy to keep entertaining your nonsense,” I sigh.

“I don’t know what you thought you’d accomplish by seeking me out today, but I’m done with this conversation.

If you have anything else you wanna say, run it by your lawyer.

Don’t even think about reaching out to Zee. You understand?”

“And who the fu-”

“Aye,” I say, cutting her off. “Watch your mouth before you say some shit you regret.”

“Have I ever told you how much I’ve always hated your ass?” She says, seething.

“Oh, trust, the feeling is and always will be mutual,” I chuckle.

I reach for the door to enter the locker room, but stop to face her one last time.

“You’ve never deserved the love that Zseyah gave you, and I’ve always thought that.

I’ve never trusted you, and every day, you prove just how right I was. Have a nice life, Sasha.”

Before she could reply, I walked through the door, letting it slam behind me.

My friends immediately rushed over to see if I was cool, but I assured them I was perfectly fine.

They tried to probe further for information, but I assured them that I’d catch them up later.

They seemed satisfied with that and let me go shower so we could head out.

The whole time, I was thinking about how fucking glad I’d be when Sasha just moved on with her life and left Zee and Serenity, and me, the hell alone.

Later That Evening

It’d been a couple of hours since I got back from practice, and I’d spent every second cleaning up the house like I promised Zee. All the laundry was washed, folded, and put away. The floors were vacuumed and mopped. The bathrooms were scrubbed clean, and I’d just finished the last part of dinner.

Tonight, I made creamy mashed potatoes with steak bites and gravy, green beans, and a side of honey-butter cornbread.

I’d also ordered a pint of our spiked apple cider to be delivered, and of course, Morgan had called me a simp when she dropped it off about an hour ago.

I didn’t care what she had to say. Her ass wasn’t even the slightest bit romantic, so her judgment didn’t faze me one bit.

As I was waiting for Zee to make it back home, I decided to chill in the living room for a bit.

She’d texted me while I was cooking to say that she’d be home around 8:30, which was about ten minutes from now.

I couldn’t wait to see how well rested she was, especially because I knew that one of the places she’d stopped by with her friends was the spa.

I loved that she wasn’t hesitant to spend my money, especially when it meant she got to be pampered, like I know she loved.

Five minutes into a show that had caught my attention, I hear my phone ring, so I pick it up and answer without looking at the number.

I assumed it was either Zee telling me she was outside or one of my friends calling to bother me, but then I heard a panicked voice and a lot of yelling in the background.

I immediately sit up before pulling the phone away to see a number I didn’t recognize.

“Hello?”

“Hi, is this Jakayla?” A voice I also don’t recognize asks.

“Yes, this is her. Who’s this?”

“Uh, my name is Cassie, and I’m a friend of Morgan,” she replies, and immediately, I’m on high alert. The screaming in the background gets louder.

“What’s going on? Is something wrong with my sister?”

“How fast can you get down here? She got into it with some woman, and it got heated pretty quickly. I’m pretty sure they’re a few seconds away from throwing blows. Morgan gave me your number and told me to call you because the woman kept bringing you up. I think her name is Sasha.”

Upon hearing that name, I shot up to my feet and asked her to send me the location.

As I waited for it, I headed to the kitchen to make sure I’d turned the stove off.

Once I confirmed that I had, I slipped on my shoes right as my phone pinged with a pin from Cassie.

I texted her to let her know that I was on my way and to keep Morgan away from Sasha.

Cassie

I’ll try, but they seem to really hate each other.

I’m ten minutes out. Be there soon.

I exited the house and locked up right as Zee pulled into the driveway.

“Hey, Zee, I’ll be right back,” I tell her as she climbs out of her car.

“Is everything okay?” she asks, still standing by her open door.

“Yeah, I need to go handle some business really quickly, but I’ll be back as soon as possible, okay?” I assure her. She looks a bit skeptical, but she doesn’t say anything. She only nods and pulls me in for a hug.

“Okay. Drive safely.”

“I will,” I say, kissing her once before hopping into my truck. “Oh, also, I finished dinner, so make sure to eat something, okay?

She nods, waving at me as I back out of the driveway.

No, it didn’t feel good to be lying to her, but I didn’t want her to worry.

I wasn’t sure why Sasha was starting shit with Morgan, but I was going to put an end to this before it went any further.

I was tired of her coming around and stirring up drama.

She was too grown to be acting like a fucking child, and I was gonna let her know.
