History Mixed With Peace. #2
“Hi, could you please tell me which floor Dr. Briarwood is on? This is my first time here, so I’m not even sure where the elevators are.”
“Yes, of course,” she nods. “So, you’re looking for the offices on the second floor, in the third wing. The elevators are on the other side of this wall behind me. Once you get off, go left and follow the signs all the way to the end of the hall.”
“Awesome! Thank you so much!”
“Of course,” she smiles with a nod. “Have a nice evening.”
“You as well,” I nod before heading towards the elevator.
I push the button and wait for it to arrive.
When the doors open, I go to step on but freeze when a familiar laugh draws my attention down the hall.
My head turns in time to see Sasha walking towards me, looking super cuddly with the same woman I recognized as the one she’d left me for.
The same one she claimed she no longer had anything to do with because their relationship was so toxic.
As they got closer, I noticed the protruding stomach, and it finally clicked in my head that she’d been lying to me that first time we ran into each other.
Not only had she not ended it with this woman, but this was also further proof that everything I’d learned about her was, in fact, true.
She didn’t leave me because she felt guilty about cheating on me; she left me simply because she didn’t want to be with me.
And that’s cool. That’s fine, but I hated that she’d tried to play on my sympathy. That shit felt so icky.
When Sasha finally spotted me, I saw the panic dance across her face, and she immediately moved away from the woman.
My eyebrow hiked in confusion as they stopped a few feet away from me.
I backed away from the elevator, letting it close because Sasha had some explaining to do.
Neither of us said anything, but I could tell she was annoyed that I’d caught her in a lie.
“Hey, babe, what’s wrong?” The woman asked, looking between the two of us. She squinted at me, and slowly, recognition flashed in her eyes. She smirked, extending her hand. “Oh, you must be Zseyah. It’s so nice to finally meet you.”
“Do I know you?” I ask, looking her up and down.
She pulls her hand back, rolling her eyes.
I ignore her, turning my attention back to Sasha.
“Um, hello? You mind explaining to me why you lied to my damn face? Is this not the same woman you divorced me for but claimed that you had cut contact with?”
The other woman chuckled, glancing at her. “Is that what you told her?” she asked, amused. “Since when did we break up, Sasha? Last time I checked, we’ve been married since late 2021.”
“Damn, you didn’t even let the ink dry, huh?” I chuckled, unamused. She tries to say something, but I hold my hand up, stopping her. “I don’t care about who you’re with. All I want to know is why the fuck you put me through hell behind Sere-”
“Hey, babe, can you give me a second?” Sasha asks the woman, cutting me off. “I wanna catch up with Zseyah, and there’s a personal question I need to ask her.”
“Of course, my love,” she giggles before kissing her softly on the cheek. “I’ll schedule my next appointment. Just come find me when you’re ready.”
“Okay, sweetheart,” she smiles, and we both watch until she disappears around the corner. Once she’s out of eyesight, she pulls me into the nearby bathroom. “We need to talk.”
“Girl, let me go!” I say, yanking my arm out of her grasp as the door shuts behind us. “What is your problem? Whatever shit you got going on, I want no parts of it!”
“Can you calm the hell down and listen to me, please!” She whisper-shouts. I sigh deeply and then motion for her to speak. “My wife doesn’t know that I’ve been in contact with you.”
“And here you go with the bullshit,” I say, throwing my hands up.
“Sasha, I don’t care about what you have going on.
I stopped caring when you got up and left me for ole girl.
I just want you to know that Jakayla told me everything.
” She freezes, her mouth opening and closing as if trying to come up with an excuse.
“I knew from jump that you didn’t care about Serenity, but I hope you know that what you did was shitty, jealousy aside.
Why am I ever surprised, though? I should’ve known as soon as you breezed into town that nothing but chaos would follow. ”
“Okay, alright, it’s true. I did only put you through all that because I was jealous of how happy you seemed now, and I hated the fact that you’d moved on,” she admitted, rubbing the back of her neck.
I stared at her as if she’d lost her rabbit ass mind.
“I know that’s wild for me to say since I was the one who cheated on you, lied to you, and now I’m married and have a baby I actually want on the way-”
“Get to the point, Sasha, because I’m about ten seconds away from slapping the shit out of you,” I state. She holds her hands up in surrender.
“You’re right, my bad,” she sighs. “Just like I told Jakayla, I only petitioned for custody out of spite because I hated how you just replaced me with Jakayla. I hated how happy you seemed when you used to smile at me the same way you smile at Jakayla. Y’all have a whole little family, and I was jealous. ”
“Again, you have a whole wife who is pregnant, mind you,” I point out. “You have no feelings for me, yet you don’t want to see me happy? Are you that fucking miserable?”
“Maybe I am, okay!” She argues. “Or…was? I don’t know.
All I know is that I took it too far, and when Jakayla’s sister fought me because I was disrespectful towards you, I realized you had way more people in your corner than I thought.
When I went home that night, I sat and thought about how much of an ass I was making of myself, and realized that I didn’t wanna be like that when my son arrives.
He’s the most important person to me, and I want him to be proud of me, you know? ”
At this point, I was fuming because she didn’t understand that her little stunt could’ve ended so badly.
I was even more annoyed by how highly she was talking about her son, not even acknowledging that we had a daughter together.
My heart hurt for Sera, but only for a second, because I knew she was loved. She had me, Jakayla, and our families.
I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself down as she went on and on with her list of excuses and apologies.
My head was beginning to throb because her voice was so damn annoying, and I was over listening to her.
When I opened my eyes to look at her again, she was still yapping away like we were old friends.
I signed loudly, and she finally shut up.
“Alright! I get it!” I say. “Damn, I forgot how long-winded you can get.” She doesn’t reply.
“Thanks for at least taking accountability for the things you’ve done, but you could’ve said that in one paragraph.
Now that you and I officially have no ties or reason to keep talking, please disappear from my life.
I don’t want you anywhere near me or my daughter, you understand? ”
“I do,” she nods, holding her hands up in surrender. “I’m sorry I caused you so much pain, Zee. I hope you and Sera are happy.”
“Yeah, cool. Whatever,” I nod, finally exiting the bathroom.
I don’t even turn around as I make it to the elevator. I pushed the button and entered, riding up to the floor I needed to be on. The whole time, I was sighing with relief that this whole ordeal was finally over. When the door opened again, I was greeted by Morgan.
We made light conversation as we rode back down to the main lobby.
She asked if I could drop her off at the auto shop so that she could pick up her car, and I nodded.
Once I’d dropped her off, I headed back home, and as soon as I entered, I was greeted by the wonderful smell of food being cooked and laughter coming from the kitchen.
“Well, hello to my favorite girls,” I greeted, and Sera ran over to hug me.
“Hi, Mommy! Me and Mama Kay are making pasta!” she exclaimed, and I chuckled, following her deeper into the kitchen.
“It smells amazing,” I reply, letting Kay pull me into her arms. She kissed me softly, and Sera giggled beside us.
“Hi, baby,” Kay smiled. “How was your day?”
“It was great,” I nodded, glancing from her to Sera and then back. I was so content with our little family that my cheeks hurt from smiling. “It’s amazing now.”
And it would be that way every day if I had these two in my life.
