16. Birthdays at Christmas. #2

“Later,” I giggled, taking her hand in mine. “For now, we need to get cleaned up and head downstairs before they come looking for us.”

“You’re right,” she nodded, with a smile. “Lead the way, mamas.”

We spent another ten minutes in the bathroom getting cleaned up and presentable again.

It was so hard to control myself from hopping up on the counter and spreading my legs for her, especially because she kept feeling up on my ass and breasts.

She was on ten, and so was I, but we both knew that we didn't have time for that.

So, we headed back downstairs before we ended up in bed instead of enjoying family time with the others.

The late dinner had been amazing as usual, and we decided to move the party into the den for a little movie night afterwards.

Princess had only made it ten minutes into Turning Red before she was out like a light, and Zee had fallen asleep not long after.

All I could do was look at my two favorite girls and smile before scooping Sera up and taking her to her room.

Once she was tucked into bed, I kissed her on the forehead, turned on the night light, and then clicked off the big light.

I glanced at her one last time before pulling the door, making sure to leave a small crack in it.

As I was walking down the stairs, Morgan was exiting the guest bathroom.

When we locked eyes, I motioned for her to follow me.

She nodded, and we made our way through the kitchen and out onto the deck in the backyard.

It was illuminated by string lights and those little lamps that charged in the sunlight so that they could be used at night.

I claimed one of the deck chairs as she sat on the sofa a few feet away.

“I’m pretty sure you know what I’m about to ask, right?” I questioned, and she nodded. “So, did you handle that small request?”

“Yes, of course,” she nodded, a smirk spreading across her lips.

“But small is the understatement of the century. The fact that you wanted two hundred balloons throws that claim out of the window.” We share a laugh, because she was right.

“All I know is that we’re popping them and then disposing of them the right way.

Ain’t gon be no balloon releasing shit on my watch. ”

“Yes, ma’am, Miss Junior Environmentalist,” I joke. “There will be no pollution happening.”

“Good,” she nodded. We let the breeze dance around us for a bit before she spoke again. “She’s going to love it. Both surprises.”

“I truly hope so,” I nodded, feeling a wave of nervousness wash over me. “I can’t believe tomorrow is finally the day.”

After a month of planning, I’d finally be proposing to the woman of my dreams tomorrow, promising to love and care for her and her daughter from now until forever.

I’d enlisted the help of Morgan, my friends, and our cousins to turn the large dining hall at the restaurant we had on the land into an extravagant proposal sight.

It’d been hard as hell trying to hide this secret from her for weeks, but in less than twenty hours, it was all gonna be so worth it.

About two weeks ago, I went and purchased a ring that I’d had custom-made to fit Zee's tastes. When I’d gone to pick it up a few days ago, I was blown away at how the diamonds shone and shimmered in the light.

It was a ring fit for a princess, and I’d stalked her Pinterest boards to make sure that it was exactly what she wanted. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow.

“You over there daydreaming again?” Morgan teases, but I nod. “God, you’re so sappy. I can’t see myself ever getting like that one day.”

“Hate to break it to you, dear sister of mine, but it’s too late for that,” I pointed out.

“You and Cassie have been attached at the hip ever since that night at the lounge, and from the looks of it, neither of y’all is trying to change that.

” When she doesn’t reply, I laugh. “See what I mean. Speaking of which, where is she? You didn’t invite her down here for Christmas? ”

“For your information, I did. She’s just spending Christmas Eve with her people, but she’ll be here tomorrow in time for lunch,” she explains. “She’s also been helping me with your proposal, and she said there’s no way in hell that she was gonna miss it.”

“Well, tell my future sister-in-law that I appreciate the help, and that she has a nice gift waiting for her under the tree.”

“Hey, I’m not gon hold you. All she really wants is some more of the soap you made not too long ago.”

“Wait, which one, because I can definitely hook her up.”

“That apple kiwi one that sold out in like ten minutes flat.”

“Ohhh. Say less! Let her know I’ll make her her own batch first week of January,” I nod. “It’ll be enough to last about six months.”

“I’ll definitely relay that message.”

“What y’all out here talking about?” I hear Mama Liz say as she appears at the door. She crosses her arms and leans against the door frame. “I hope it has something to do with you finally making my bonus daughter your wife.”

“Oh, it has everything to do with that,” I admit, standing from my seat. She pulls me in for a hug, and I melt into her embrace. “By this time tomorrow, we’re going to be one step closer to being the new Mrs. and Mrs. Collins.”

“I’m so happy for you, baby,” she tells me, pulling back so she can look me in the eyes.

“You deserve to have your fairytale life just as much as she does. I knew from the first day you introduced her to us that you would eventually fall for her. I’m so happy that you two found each other and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for y’all. ”

“Thank you, Mama,” I nod, hugging her once more.

“Now, on to this one,” she says, glancing over at Morgan. She just smirks and pats the seat beside her.

“Come on over here so you can fuss at me, old woman,” she snickers, and our mom narrows her eyes, but takes a seat beside her.

“First of all, I’m only 56, you heifer,” she fusses, and I shake my head as I enter the house again, leaving them to their discussion.

I find Mama Giselle stretched out on the section, knocked out with a blanket thrown over her.

I decided to let her sleep, but I gently woke Zee up so I could take her to bed.

She groans, but allows me to guide her up the stairs.

After a quick change of clothes and a speed run of our night routines, we climbed into bed, and she snuggled up against me.

I drifted off to sleep that night with thoughts of what’s to come dancing in my mind.
