6. Dream
CHAPTER SIX
DREAM
“Hmm…hmm. Hmmm!” I hummed along to the colorful music playing from my headphones.
I bobbed my head and danced in my little black miniskirt, the oversized and holey pinstriped crop wiggling as I moved.
Thankfully, I was comfortable wearing platform boots, making the walk home easy.
“Now, stop!” I stopped as the beat halted, the climax building until the bass dropped.
“So sick,” I whispered to myself, dancing down the sidewalk.
The summer air was surprisingly cool and peaceful. It reminded me of him—my sunshine man.
My smile grew at the thought of him.
I wonder what soldier boy is doing right now.
I glanced at my phone, tapping from one playlist to another, purposely choosing my next song.
Let’s see if he likes this one, too.
I pressed the play button and as the music began, I tossed my hair over my shoulder, dancing the rest of the way home. The night was beautiful, and I was practically buzzing from my set at The Red Eye earlier in the night.
Maybe Felix can come to another performance. Oh! What if I can convince him to take a spin at my DJ booth!
I nearly jumped with excitement at the thought.
Oh! And he’d look so cute wearing his own pair of bunny ears!
With a pep in my step, I skipped up the stairs of the concrete stoop and stopped outside the front door of my apartment.
“I wonder…” I twisted the doorknob and, to no surprise, found it unlocked.
“Knew it.” My smile felt permanent, my cheeks aching as I stepped inside.
Felix was sitting on the velvet couch, wearing a simple black T-shirt and dark wash jeans, his hair faintly brushed back with a few wavy strands hanging around the dark-framed glasses he had on.
He had his bag next to him on the floor and seemed to be peacefully reading, wearing a single headphone as if he was too preoccupied to welcome me home… but I knew he was just pretending.
Such a bad liar.
I took my shoes off, noticing his boots spaced out with just enough room to put mine between them. My cheeks flushed at the little notion and I looked at him, the man obviously still pretending to read. “What’s with the gap between your boots?” I asked, purposely toying with him.
Felix flipped a page, keeping his eyes low as if unbothered. “That gap is for your boots.”
Such a cutie.
“Oh?” I carefully removed my foot from one boot, sliding it forward before doing the same with the other. Seeing his shoes on either side of mine made my stomach flutter. “Any reason you left it—” His scent suddenly hit my nostrils and nearly choked me.
Felix’s arms wrapped around my waist, his face nestling into my neck as he inhaled deeply and pulled me close. “Because I like the way it looks…like I belong here, with you.” He kissed just behind my ear, sending shivers down my body. “You’re late.”
I tried to hide my excitement at his touch. “You would say that.” I gasped as his hands curved down and around my legs. “It’s a pretty night…I figured I’d just walk home and enjoy it.” A low growl rippled from his chest and my thighs squeezed in response.
Felix spun me around, his fingers brushing my hair back as he gripped my face. “I don’t like you walking home alone.” I nearly lost my breath at his beauty, only enhanced by the glasses.
“Why?” I asked, leaning into him. “Can’t you see every step I take…stalker?” My brow raised as he tensed.
That’s right…I know you’re always watching me.
He toyed with the blush-colored leather collar around my neck, rubbing the pads of his fingers along the metal heart. It was part of my DJ persona, and I wore it every time I performed.
Felix flashed a tiny smirk. “Can’t get anything past you, can I?”
I shook my head playfully. “Nope.”
“Figures.” He leaned forward and kissed my forehead, carefully taking the earphones from my ears. “Listening to anything good?”
I made a face, pulling the single wireless earphone from his ear and placing it into my own. “You tell me.” And sure enough, he was listening to the song I had picked just for him.
Felix smiled, then took my bag as I slowly stripped down to just a lacy black camisole and matching black thong.
“Ugh,” I sighed. “Tonight was amazing, but fuck I’m tired.
” He sat on the couch and pulled me next to him, stretching my legs across his lap.
I leaned my head back, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.
“You’re so cute with glasses.” I poked them softly with the tip of my nail.
He smiled, cheesing like a little schoolboy. “I’m glad you like them, because I forgot my contacts today.” Felix then rubbed my legs softly, massaging them from my knees to my feet. “How’s that?” he asked, applying the right amount of pressure.
I sighed, closing my eyes. “Fucking perfect.” A gentle hum-like moan escaped my lips as he continued. “I take it work was messy?” Felix stopped. I opened my eyes, rolling my head along the couch as I pointed to my neck. “You have some blood…just there.”
He quickly touched the spot, looking down to see a small smear of blood on his fingertips. “Fuck,” he muttered softly to himself.
I love how he thinks I don’t notice the little things.
I tried not to laugh, shooting forward as I switched positions and laid along his lap.
“Don’t worry, blood doesn’t scare me.” I paused as he began playing with my hair and stroking my head.
The tip of my nails circled the shape of his knee.
“But losing you does.” The words left my lips like a frightened whisper. “I can’t lose you.”
“Hey.” Felix rolled me toward him, his face hovering over mine. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“You say that now…but no one can deny fate. And one day, we’re all going to die.” I tried to look away, but he gripped my chin, keeping my eyes on him.
His eyes burned like jewels, staring through the glasses.
“Then I guess I’ll just have to do everything in my power to make sure I don’t die until we're old and gray, and bickering over who’s going to feed that damn spider.
” He kissed me softly. “And even then, death can’t keep me from you. You’re mine, cottontail. My Dream.”
I kissed him back. “Speaking of Lady Zaza—” I tried to sit up, but he only pushed me back down. “I need to feed her.”
Felix’s fingers glided smoothly along my lower lip. “I guess it’s a good thing I already took care of her for you.”
My eyes widened and I stared up at him in complete disbelief. “You…you fed Lady Zaza?” He nodded. “You? The man who is terrified of the very sight of a spider…fed my tarantula?”
Felix grumbled. “It’s not that I’m afraid of spiders…
I just don’t like them. Never have.” He shivered.
“But yes, I fed Lady Zaza. When you didn’t come home on time, I knew you’d be worried about her.
So, I did some research and looked around until I found everything I needed, and took care of it for you.
” He raised a strand of my hair and tickled my nose with it.
“One less thing for you to worry about.”
I knew it…this man is completely obsessed with me.
I popped up, startling him. “I still can’t believe you fed her!
” Before he could react, I got up and ran to the enclosure to find my magenta tarantula perfectly content.
I grinned so big my cheeks ached. “Look at you! He really did take care of you, didn’t he?
” My heart fluttered as I whispered my next sentence to the little critter.
“Don’t worry, Lady Zaza, despite the odds, I did the impossible.
I found someone who’s going to take care of both of us. ”
I never thought fate would bring me someone like him.
Someone so caring and protective. Ever since my parents were murdered, I’d spent every second of every day busting my ass to make ends meet, sometimes barely even scraping by.
I learned the real lessons of the world and came to terms with the sad fact that kindness and respect don’t come cheap.
They, like everything else in life, had a price.
And anyone could be bought. Money was power, and without it, you were nothing.
And when I learned all those things, I made the choice to do whatever I needed to do to hold onto as much power as I could.
I wanted to hold endless stacks of bills that would pay for independence and ensure no man could hurt me the way my instructor did.
I noticed Felix move from out of the corner of my eye and turned to see him reach into his bag.
“I have something for you.” He then pulled out a small case and sat it atop the coffee table.
I walked over and sat on my knees, looking at the industrial matte black box.
“Do you know what this is?” he asked, pointing to it.
I nodded. “It’s a gun case.” I turned to look at him. “You got me a gun?”
Felix crouched down and unlatched the box, lifting the lid to reveal the cutest hot pink gun ever.
“I did.” He carefully pulled it out and I admired it as I squealed.
“You seemed comfortable holding the BB gun at Rage Play, and considering you said you know how to shoot, I figured it might be nice having this around.”
Who needs flowers when your stalker can give you a gun?
“Where did you find this?” I asked. “I’ve never seen a gun this color before!”
He gently rotated the firearm and offered it to me.
“I have my ways.” I reached out and grabbed it, admiring its textured grip design.
The gun was a bit heavier than I expected, but it felt nice in my hand.
Felix explained a little bit about it and his choice of firearm as I raised it and aimed across the room.
“I know most people would recommend a small SIG or Glock, but with your experience, I knew you could handle a bigger bang.” He grinned at his choice of words. “How does it feel? Not too heavy?”
I swung my arms, holding my posture straight as I aimed it right at him. “Colt 1911?” He nodded, seemingly impressed. “.45 ACP?”
