Chapter Twelve
Moth
The cold air brushed my cheeks as I stared down onto the train tracks.
The metal bars were the only thing stopping me from toppling over the bridge and plummeting to oblivion.
Ever since I'd lost Jack, and been blamed for his death by my mother, I'd imagined joining him.
I was ready for the pain to end. I just had to do one more thing.
“It's not time,” Fly's voice echoed across the bridge.
Looking over my shoulder, I grimaced. “Says who?”
He had obviously walked the mile or so through town to meet me, despite me telling him that I didn't need company. I'd texted him to tell him that I knew the truth of what happened that day.
“Says the four thirteen-year-old boys who stood here, not long after Wasp died, and promised one another that when vengeance was served, we'd leave this earth together… to join Jack and make our bug pack whole again.” Fly came to stand beside me. “Rather fucking poetic, if you ask me.”
My eyes glassed over, but the numbness had been lodged in my chest for so long, I couldn't produce tears anymore, even knowing the truth about that day.
“She confessed?” Fly tucked his hands into his jeans pockets without looking at me.
Grunting, I gripped hold of the bars and squeezed them until it was painful, just to feel something. And yet, I had felt something… when I’d pushed my cock into Alia's soaking wet pussy.
“Yeah.” My voice croaked. “She claims it was a careless accident, meant to scare us. She even had the decency to call the cops when it got out of control.”
“Fuck me.” Fly turned to me. “How could she be so stupid? Fire near an old house with a shit ton of wood around…”
Shrugging, I leaned further into the metal bars. Fly put a hand on my shoulder, just strong enough to let me know that he wasn't going to let me do anything crazy.
“I miss him so fucking much.” My words, although genuine, were cold, just like my heart. “I wanted to rip her fucking head off, just because of how inane her explanation had been. I needed… more.”
“You'll get it.” Fly released me when I stepped back. “Once the world is rid of those who fucked us up, you'll finally be free.”
I stayed silent, measuring the distance to the tracks below. He was right, we’d sworn to wait.
“The others are on their way,” Fly muttered, shrugging when I glared at him. “What? They called when I was walking. I told them you were here.”
The rev of a car engine had us stepping back and turning. A black car crawled towards us, pulling up at the end of the bridge and shining its lights directly on us.
“That’s not Ant’s car,” Fly muttered, squinting. “Who the fuck is that?”
Frowning, I stepped sideways as a tall figure got out of the car, leaving the door open and the engine idling.
“You think you can take my woman?” the man shouted.
The skin on the back of my neck itched and I surged forward, only stopped by Fly grabbing my leather jacket.
“Who is it?” Fly moved in front of me, pushing me back when I tried to get around him.
He was probably one of the only people who had the strength to hold me, or maybe it was because he was my friend, and I didn't want to hurt him.
“I'm Alia's man.” Brandon stepped to the side of the car so we could see him. “And I'm here to kill him.”
He lifted his arm and pointed at me, his face and dark blonde hair glowing in the car’s headlamps.
I clenched my teeth hard, catching my lip and tasting blood.
I might hate Alia, but the bastard had no right treating her like he had.
Plus, if anyone was going to hurt her, it would be me. I just hadn’t decided how yet.
“You’re her stalker,” I shouted, “and I'll kill you first.”
He chuckled – fucking chuckled – but didn't come closer.
“Just know that I have your number plate,” he shouted, “I'll get you both, after I've fucked her hard, one last time.”
“I already did…” I called, my ego taking over. “…right after you attacked her. She was so grateful to be rescued, I bent her over and fucked her until she screamed. She completely forgot about you.”
Brandon went to his car and climbed back in, revving the engine loudly before driving it straight for us.
We dodged out of the way, Fly managing to jump to the side while I hauled myself onto the metal railings of the bridge.
I balanced as the motherfucker reversed and came at us again, hitting the wall just beneath me.
If he wasn't careful, it would crumble and his car would go down with us.
“Moth!” Fly shouted, “I'm getting him!”
“No!”
My reply was drowned out by Brandon's engine.
Before I could react, Fly launched at the car, getting caught as it surged backwards.
He went down, his scream forcing me off the railings.
I jumped straight onto the windshield as Brandon drove at the bridge again, gritting my teeth as my ankles buckled and the glass smashed inwards, curving like a bowl.
Adrenaline took over and I was beside the vehicle, wrenching open the door before my new enemy could reverse and kill my friend.
I was about to drag the son of a bitch out when someone reached around me, pinning my arms to my sides and forcing me away.
“He's not on the list,” Ant hissed into my ear. “He's not worth it.”
Ah, my brothers had arrived, determined to stop me from doing the worst.
Spider appeared next to us, pouncing onto Brandon, who hid behind his steering wheel and heaved him out of the car.
Brandon landed on the ground, his arms over his head as Spider towered over him, his long hair wild.
I tried to wrench myself from Ant's arms, but he held me back, his level-head stronger than my fury.
If I wanted to get free, I would have to hurt my buddy.
He knew that he had to keep me away if Brandon was going to survive.
“Fly’s hurt!” My strangulated words got through to Ant and he finally let me go.
We both went to the back of the car, dropping to our knees next to our friend, who was writhing in pain. “The cunt's run over my leg! I won't be able to ride my bike home! I can't fucking leave it here, it'll get stolen. Aghhhhh.”
“That doesn't matter,” Ant told him, trying to hold him steady, “we’ll sort it. We need an ambulance.”
“Fuck that!” Fly tried to push himself up from the ground. “I'll ride home and fix it myself.”
“Dude's delirious,” Spider said from behind me.
Spinning, I checked over his shoulder. Brandon was running away, looking behind him to check where we were. My feet itched to run, to chase down the man who had just become another of my enemies. Fuck, the list was growing extremely long.
“You've just become my next target!” I shouted as loud as I could. “Sleep well, Brandon Baby!”
The pain etched in Fly's face stopped me from going after the idiot who had dared to hurt one of us. Our newest motto was simple… One list for those who hurt us. One target at a time… until death reunites us.
“Yeah, my friend got caught by a passing car.” Ant was on the phone. “The driver left the car and ran. Yeah, hit and run.”
“I thought he didn't want an ambulance,” I said to Spider, who had pinned Fly to the cold ground so he couldn't do more damage to himself.
Raising one eyebrow, Spider smiled. “I know you're handy at stitches but can you mend a broken fucking bone?”
I paced next to them, looking out into the darkness in case Brandon decided he wanted to dance with death by returning. Alia was a bitch who had been reckless and stupid, but she didn't deserve what that cunt was doing to her.
My dick hardened as I thought about what I'd done to her. Jeez, I had a fucking cheek to be angry at him when I’d threatened and fucked her. At least her pussy had wanted me, that was undeniable. If she'd really meant no, I would've stopped… probably.
“I need to make sure he doesn't go to Alia's.” I turned away, pausing when Ant blocked my path.
“You're leaving us?” He tucked his phone away. “For that bitch? You have some explaining to do.”
Shit, he was right. Why was I running to protect her when one of my guys was down? Loyalty had got us through the worst years of our lives while we were trapped in hell. I couldn't bail now, especially not for someone who was on our hit list.
“She told me everything,” I confessed, returning to Fly and kneeling beside him. “It was a stupid fucking accident, all because I embarrassed her. She wanted to scare us so she started the fire, calling the cops when it got out of control.”
Fly gritted his teeth as he replied to me. “Then you fucked her. Good job.”
The others gasped in unison, their shoulders going stiff. They hadn't been in on my little plan to use Alia. They all knew that I'd had a huge hard on for her when we were young, but my hatred for the girl who had killed my brother had all but burned it away… or so I thought.
Smiling, I shrugged. “What can I say? I had a hard cock, she had a wet pussy…”
Fly laughed, Ant shoved me hard, and Spider shook his head disapprovingly.
“I know you've grown dead inside,” Spider, the most sensible of us, started, “but your focus has shifted since you found her again. You might need to question your purpose now that you know the truth.”
The sounds of sirens in the distance panicked us. Wait, what the fuck were we doing? The police were bound to turn up and question us, four men on a bridge in the middle of nowhere. No doubt they'd assume it was drug deal gone wrong.
“What was I thinking?” Ant muttered, moving to his car. “Fly, you know the drill.”
Spider tapped Fly's head and retreated, retrieving our wounded friend’s bike and revving the engine.
We'd created a policy as soon as we'd left hell, swearing not to speak to the police or officials when there was more than one of us. They couldn’t find out who we were or our identities could be revealed to people we were hiding from.
“Dude,” I said, hovering near my friend, who stayed still on the ground, “I can't leave you.”
“Fucking go,” Fly snapped, “or you’ll risk ruining everything. We can’t get caught. Now, fuck off.”
My boots skidded away from him and I leapt onto my bike, firing it up as the sirens grew closer.
Ant sped away in his car, in the opposite direction of the oncoming authorities.
I glanced over my shoulder before I kicked off, nodding at Fly when he gave me the thumbs up.
Hopefully, my friend would get the help he needed quickly.
“See you soon, buddy,” I shouted, kicking my foot up and pulling hard on the handlebar.
As the bike sped away from my injured friend, I swore that I would find Brandon and cut his head off… there was a chance, if she was a good girl, I'd let Alia watch too.
