Chapter Twenty-Four

"Okay, okay, we really have to stop," I said, hating that I was having to be the responsible one.

The moment the cafe had officially closed and Aunt Dorrie and everyone else who was helping with the flowers for Busy Bee's parade float tomorrow had left, Cammie and I had gotten tangled up in each other.

But we were running out of time to get everything else ready for tomorrow, and I knew Cammie would be incredibly stressed in the morning if I didn't stop her now, so as much as I didn't want to, I pulled away from her. Instead of stopping, though, she moved her lips to my neck.

"Come on, Cam, we have to get back to work," I said, pleading with her to stop before we both got more carried away.

She pulled away, giving me a pout.

When I didn't relent, she sighed, "Okay, fineeee. Back to prep work."

"We're probably going to be up all night as it is."

"Promise?" she asked with a smirk.

"That's not what I meant."

She groaned, "I know, I know. I'm so glad Pride's tomorrow so things'll calm down a little bit."

If she was having the same worries I was about Mattie being around us both tomorrow for the first time since we started whatever this was, she wasn’t showing it. She swore up and down that he'd be happy for us, but I couldn't help feeling worried that maybe she was wrong.

On the bright side, with the amount of baking prep we still had to do, I wouldn't have much time to actually worry about it.
