Who Would’ve Guessed

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Who Would’ve Guessed

KYROS

Everything hurts. My back. My head. My pride. The healer said something to me a moment ago, but maybe it was hours ago. I don’t know, and I honestly don’t care.

Because Sadie is here. Alive.

We both are.

I turn my head, searching the room. Where’d she go? I smack my tongue against the roof of my mouth, lying back down. Stupid reef rat. Always running away from me.

I’ll catch her later. Because she’s mine. I usually fight the thought, reminding myself that Sadie isn’t mine forever, but not now.

She knows I marked her.

Was she mad? I can’t remember. Doesn’t matter. What’s she going to do? Swim away? She’s a bad swimmer. Absolutely terrible. Potentially the worst I’ve ever seen.

I’ll make her practice some more tomorrow. Maybe I'll make her hold on to me this time. It’s safer that way.

My eyelids grow heavy, sleep tugging at the edges of my mind.

Where’s Sadie?
