I was still in shock after the shit I just seen. As I sat outside Joker’s building, I saw him come out with the bitch from the restaurant. The shit was wild to me. She swore she wasn’t messing with him like that but was lying through her teeth. He pulled off and I tried to follow him but lost him on the interstate. I was heated.

I tried calling his phone but it kept going to voicemail because I was still on the blocklist. My stupid ass should’ve got out the car when I saw them standing up there and approached them, but after the way Joker handled me the last time when he was cheating, I didn’t know how he was gon’ react. I decided to wait and come up with me a solid plan.

Pulling up to the police station, I got out the car and went inside. Stopping at the desk, I grinned brightly as I stared at Nesha.

“What are you doing here?” she questioned me.

“I came because I need a favor.”

“What kind of favor?”

“I need you to find somebody for me.”

“You know I’m not in the business of doing all that anymore. I’m not trying to lose my job.”

“It’s important though. I really need to find her.”

“Why?” Nesha asked and folded her arms over her chest.

“I promise I’m not gon’ do anything crazy. I just need to talk to her.”

“Talk to who?”

“You remember that chick that was the waitress at Lotus that time me, you, and Candice went?”

Her brows dipped. “Are you talking about the one you said you didn’t like?”

“Yeah, her.”

“Hell no, I’m not helping you find her.” The doors opened behind me. I glanced back over my shoulder and saw an elderly woman walk in. She stopped behind me and I stepped to the side. “Can I help you, ma’am?” Nesha asked her.

“Hey…” She stepped to the desk. “I wanted to see if I can print out a police report.”

“Do you have the paper they gave you?”

“Yes.” She removed a small piece of paper from her purse and handed it over to Nesha.

“One moment,” Nesha replied.

I stood there, picking at my fingernails. Nesha had to help me find that bitch so I could get her away from my man. It was crazy that I was still calling him my man after all the shit he said to me, and on top of that, telling me he was in love with someone else. Joker and I were perfect together; he just had to see it.

“Here you go. Have a nice day,” Nesha said and handed the lady the paperwork.

“Thank you. You two have a nice day too,” she said and headed back toward the door.

“Pleeeeeeease, Nesha.” I slid back in front of her desk and poked out my lower lip.

“Monica.”

“I’ll drop down to this floor and beg you.”

“You must really want to talk to her bad.”

“You have no idea.”

Nesha looked over her shoulder and then turned her attention back to me. “If I get fired for this…”

“You won’t. No one will ever know you did it.”

“What’s her name?”

“All I know is it’s Halo. I don’t know her last name.”

“Really, Monica?” Nesha rolled her eyes.

I stood there as she typed on the computer in search of Halo. If I had more than a first name to go on, I would’ve been able to find her myself.

“Got her. This her, ain’t it?” She slightly turned the computer for me to see the picture on the screen, and there she was, looking cute even in a fucking mugshot.

“Yup. What’s her information?”

“I’ll write it down for you,” she responded and turned the computer screen back toward her. She grabbed a sticky note and pen and said, “I’m telling you now, if you do something and get caught, I’m kicking your ass.”

“Even if I did do something, who will know that you helped me?” Peeling the sticky note from the pad, she handed it to me. “Thank you,” I said as I rushed toward the exit.

When I made it back to my car, I placed the address she gave me into the GPS. It wasn’t even far from the police station, that’s the crazy thing about it. Pulling out my parking space, I got on the road and drove ten minutes ’til I pulled into the parking lot of Ridgeview. Joker was really running around the city with some chick from the projects.

Parking my car, I sat there, debating if I wanted to get out and go up to her apartment. There were so many people hanging around outside. I hadn’t seen shit like this since I was growing up. I’m from the hood. The moment I was able to get out of there, I didn’t look back. That’s a part of my life that I kept buried at the back of my mind.

Opening the door, I climbed out and headed to the front entrance, making sure to lock my car doors along the way. The last thing I wanted was to come back out the door and my car be gone.

“Aye, lil mama!” a guy yelled at me as I reached the door.

Ignoring him, I went on in the building and took the staircase up to the third floor. As I trotted down the hallway, I searched the doors for her apartment number and stopped in front of it. My hand lifted, I knocked and heard shuffling noises coming from the opposite side. When I came up with the idea to come over here, I had no clue as to what I was gon’ say to her once I was face to face with her. All I knew was I wanted to knock her head off her shoulders for lying to me.

The door swung open, and I was staring at some older woman. She looked to be in her fifties. “Can I help you?” she asked.

“I’m looking for Halo.”

“Who?”

“Halo. She lives here, right?”

“Don’t nobody by the name of Halo stays here.”

“You’re looking for Halo?” a woman’s voice came from behind me. I turned around and saw this elderly woman standing at a door down the hallway.

“Yeah. Do you know her?”

“I know Halo. She doesn’t live here anymore.”

“Do you know where I can find her?”

“I don’t know you to be giving out her personal business like that.”

Approaching the door, I reached into my purse and pulled out my wallet. “How much?”

“I don’t need yo’ money.”

My eyes danced over her frame. She stood there in one of those nightgowns from Walmart with talking ass slippers and had the nerve to tell me that she didn’t need my money.

“Excuse me?” My brow lifted to my hairline.

“You heard me. If Halo wanted you to know where she lived, she would’ve told you. Now I told you she don’t stay here no more. That’s all you’re getting out of me,” she replied and closed the door. It slammed in my face, and I gasped. The nerve of her.

“Ugh!” I squealed and marched away from the door.

As I stepped back out the door, three men stood there like they were waiting for me to come out. “Damn, lil mama, where you come from?”

“Not interested.” I stuck my hand up in his face before he could get closer to me and kept trekking.

“Fuck you. You built like a ant anyway,” he said behind me.

Giving him the bird finger, I unlocked my car and hopped inside. Pulling off, I decided to go back by Joker’s place to have a talk with him. He claimed he was in love with Halo, but he didn’t even know what love was. He was with a bitch that probably just wanted him for his money. Someone that has nothing will help you lose everything, and I didn’t want him to end up ruining his life over this… this fling.

Pulling up to Joker’s building, I hopped out the car. Just as I was about to walk up to the door, a Mercedes pulled in behind me. Low and behold, Halo climbed her ass out of it.

“You done came up, I see,” I taunted, standing there with my hand resting on my hip.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“I was just about to ask you the same thing. Thought you didn’t know Joker like that. I know that’s why you’re here.”

“You don’t have the right to be questioning me about my man.”

I gasped. “You got a lot of nerve.” I closed the gap between us, ready to smack her stupid ass down.

“It’s the truth. I’m in a relationship with Joker. Don’t believe me, ask him then.” She shrugged. I just know that nigga didn’t give my title to this lil bitch.

“You seen my nigga and thought you was about to get a come up. You got another thing coming.”

Halo took a couple steps toward me. A mug rested on her face. “Call my man yo’ man one more fucking time.”

Nesha’s voice popped in my head, and I quickly kicked the mufucka out. I wasn’t at Halo’s place, so me whupping her ass here won’t have nothing to do with it.

“My—” Before the sentence could leave my mouth, Halo’s hand connected with my cheek. “Why you little bitch,” I said, palming my cheek.

“You need to fucking leave before I call Joker down here and let him know that you’re stalking people.”

I didn’t give a damn about her calling no Joker. She was going to be calling herself a fucking ambulance once I was done scrubbing the ground with her.

Smack!

My hand went straight across her face.

Smack!

I slapped her ass on the other side as well because who the fuck she thought she was putting her hands on me.

Halo stood there with her mouth touching the ground. “That’s it.” She tossed her things on top of the car she was driving and gripped me by the shoulders. Before I knew it, I was slung to the ground. She may have been smaller than me, but that lil bitch had some strength to her. She sat down on top of me so fast. Her fists rained down on my face. I tried my best to shield my face with my arm, but she was still connecting with my ass.

“That’s enough,” a masculine voice said, and the weight from my chest was lifted. I looked up and Halo was removed from my chest. One of the security guards was holding her back while one of the valets extended their hand in my direction to help me up off the ground. “I’m gon’ have to ask both of you to leave,” he said, and Halo frowned.

“How about you call Joker down here and tell him that you want me to leave, because he’s the one who invited me over here,” she said and yanked away from him.

“Whatever. I’on have time for this shit.” I marched off to my car. This ho really thinks she won something. Spinning on my heels, I faced her and said, “I bet Joker ain’t tell you that we recently had sex. You out here claiming a nigga and don’t really know what the fuck’s going on. I’m pregnant. Now my man that.” I stuck my tongue out at her and hopped into my car.
