14. Kaelus #3
His gaze dropped to his ‘wife’s’ body. The metallic blue gown Maera had given Clair fit her curves far too well.
It cupped her full breasts lovingly, outlining their generous shape and making it impossible for him not to remember how they had looked bare the night before.
Gods, he wished they were alone and he could kiss her with nothing between them!
Kaelus bent low and pressed his lips first to one breast, then the other, feeling the warmth of her body even through the thin fabric.
Her nipples went tight and he felt them brushing his lips as he kissed gently and reverently.
She was so soft and sweet and beautiful—he wished he could go on and on but there were people watching and besides, this was only making him more and more attached to his coworker in a way that wasn’t good for either of them.
Clair inhaled sharply but didn’t move away as he pressed his face between her breasts, breathing her in.
He loved the smell of her skin and hair. And beneath that was the warm, sweet feminine scent that had been driving him mad since the day they met. Finally, he would get to kiss the source of that scent.
Kaelus sank to his knees. Their height difference was so extreme that he was still almost face-t0-face with his petite “wife” but at least it got him closer to where he needed to be.
He looked at Clair. Her hands were clenched at her sides, her lips were parted, and her cheeks were flushed.
“Still all right?” he murmured. “You don’t mind letting me do this?”
She nibbled her lower lip but finally shook her head.
“It’s all right—do it.”
“As you wish, Lissa’ra,” he murmured.
He placed his hands lightly at her hips, then he lowered his head. He pressed his mouth against the soft blue fabric just below her belly, over the sacred place Varell had indicated.
The gown was thin enough that he could feel the heat of her body beneath it, and the scent of her arousal reached him so suddenly and strongly that desire surged inside him.
He could feel the soft lips of her pussy against his own lips—barely separated by the thin fabric.
Gods, he wished he could raise her skirt or even rip it away and bury his face between her thighs…
wished he could open her soft little pussy with his tongue and make her moan for him as she had moaned last night when she was touching herself…
He wanted so badly to taste her he could barely hold himself back.
Then her soft little hands found his head, and he could feel her fingers carding through his hair. The gentle touch sent a shiver through his entire body and he pressed closer, pushing his face between her thighs, wanting more.
“Kaelus…” she murmured, but she didn’t back away or make any move to stop him. In fact, it felt like she was pushing forward—as though she liked having his mouth right over her soft little pussy.
Kaelus closed his eyes. For one dangerous heartbeat, he remembered Clair’s shining fingers the night before and the sweet taste of her honey on his tongue. His cock surged painfully in his trousers. God, he was aching just from her scent and the soft feeling of her body so close to his.
Stop it—get away before you go too far, whispered a warning voice in his head.
Summoning willpower he hadn’t known he possessed, he finally forced himself to pull away.
When he looked up, Clair was staring down at him.
Neither of them spoke. The entire room seemed to have disappeared. There was only Clair. His Lissa’ra. His goddess.
Except she wasn’t his, Kaelus reminded himself. She could never be his and he was only fooling himself pretending that she was.
He rose abruptly to tower over her again.
“The ritual is completed,” he said, his voice rough.
Varell smiled.
“And it was very well done.”
“Yes, indeed it was!” Maera said, beaming at the two of them. “I could tell you were reluctant at first, but doesn’t it feel good to worship your goddess as you should?”
Kaelus wanted to growl at her. Instead, he looked at Clair.
His lab partner seemed dazed—her pupils were dilated and her lips were parted.
He had done that to her,” Kaelus realized. He had put her in that state. The knowledge gave him far too much satisfaction…along with a desire to do it again.
“Doctor Kaelus?” Sendar said impatiently from the doorway, breaking his train of thought. “If you are finished worshipping your goddess, perhaps we might begin our work.”
Kaelus turned, frowning. Something in the other male’s tone irritated him. In fact, everything about Sendar irritated him, though he couldn’t say why.
“I am finished with the ritual,” he said. “But I will never be finished honoring my mate.”
The words came out before he could stop them and silence followed.
Varell smiled broadly and Maera’s expression softened. Sendar’s mouth tightened.
And as for Clair…Kaelus did not dare look at her. He was afraid she would see the desire and deep possessiveness he was feeling.
“Come,” Sendar said curtly. “We need to go.”
Kaelus followed him toward the corridor, though every instinct in him rebelled at walking away from Clair. Just before he crossed the doorway, he gave in and looked back.
She was still standing beside the table. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips were swollen from his kiss, and she was watching him.
Their eyes met and Kaelus nearly turned around to kiss her again. Instead, he forced himself to follow Sendar.
Behind him, he heard Maera say something softly to Clair, followed by Clair’s breathless little laugh.
Kaelus clenched his jaw and kept walking. He was irritated with himself and afraid he was getting into the fake relationship they were role playing much too deep. This arrangement was only supposed to teach him how to pretend to worship Clair as his goddess.
The problem was that with every passing hour, pretending seemed less and less necessary.
