Chapter 9
Jared
In the heat of the sun, I wake with a start to the sounds of birds singing.
The close sound of buzzing near my ear has me feeling pissed off.
Oh, that’s right, I slept outside… Feeling pressure on my chest, I look down, noticing long black hair covering my bare chest. Subconsciously, I must’ve gotten hot and took my shirt off in the middle of the night.
Instant longing goes to my already hard morning wood.
Kailey’s arm is wrapped around my hip, holding on to me for dear life as she snuggles deeper into my chest. A light sheen of sweat coats her forehead.
Her white button-up swimsuit cover has ridden up her thigh, exposing that sun-kissed skin I’m so fond of. Closing my eyes, I lay my head back down. Shit, I’m a real asshole. Why didn’t I offer her something to sleep in?!
I can’t stop looking at her; she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
Fighting the urge to take a peek under her cover-up, I busy my fingertips, lightly moving the thick black hair away from her face.
Just the mere thought of seeing more of her body has my morning wood perking up.
Kailey’s lips are slightly parted, and I swear I can hear a soft snore leaving her lips.
Feeling something wet, I shift my top half slightly.
Yep, that’s drool from her mouth, connecting from her bottom lip to my chest. Even in her current disheveled state, she looks like a Greek goddess, so fucking beautiful.
This need, the attraction that I have for her, is starting to consume me.
Now that I’ve had this small taste of her…
I’m an addict—one that’s already craving my next fix of Kailey.
Last night, I wanted nothing more than to devour her well-defined lips, dry hump her into oblivion until she was withering underneath me, begging to be fucked hard and deep.
The only thing that stopped me was a chance of this being something real.
She’s the only one to ever cause this kind of reaction in me.
Her personality shows off how good of a person she is.
It shined in the ways she talked about her family and friends, and even the career choice of being a nurse.
A throat clearing next to my truck pulls me from my thoughts. My head instantly whips in the direction of the sound.
“You know… I knew I heard your truck pull up last night. I just didn’t realize you enjoy sleeping outside nowadays.
” Joey smiles behind the steam of his coffee mug.
Stepping closer, he realizes I’m not alone, his gaze travels along the bed we made last night, and he stares at Kailey, his empty hand trailing the upper lining of my truck bed.
I put my finger to my mouth and give him a death stare, then use it to make a line at my throat, threatening death if he wakes Kailey up. But Joey, being the asshat that he is, doesn’t care. He gives two sharp knocks on the tailgate.
Kailey’s body startles against my chest, her grip tightening along my waist. I really want to kick my brother’s ass right now.
Before I can lay into him, she wipes at her mouth, slowly sitting up.
Using her palm to shield out the sunlight, she takes in her surroundings, and her tired eyes widen the second she realizes Joey and I are staring.
“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty.” Not able to contain myself a second longer, I sweep the hair out of her face into my fist and bring her face down to mine, placing a soft peck to her luscious, full lips.
My body wants to pounce on hers. I don’t miss the way her breath catches and her body leans slightly toward mine in invitation.
Before she has time to kiss me back, I pull away and give her juicy ass a light slap.
I can’t help but grin at the surprise written all over her face. “Are you hungry? Joey made coffee, and I can make us some pancakes.”
Kailey’s fingertips brush over her bottom lip. Her golden whiskey eyes, with a slight hint of green, look up at me. The sunlight makes her eyes appear more green than her usual whiskey brown. Even with her messy hair and clothing in disarray, she is… So. Fucking. Stunning.
She grabs a hair tie off of her wrist, wrapping her hair into a messy looking bun. My hat that she wore yesterday, lost somewhere amid the blankets.
Before a response can be made, her stomach growls loudly.
A peach blush coats her cheeks. It might be my new favorite shade. Kailey smiles bashfully, shrugging her shoulders before responding. “If my stomach didn’t already give it away, I’m starving. But first I need a bathroom and some toothpaste.”
I can tell she’s embarrassed that I laid a kiss on her, morning breath and all. I didn’t care today. I won’t care about it tomorrow, either.
I nod my head toward my brother. “And this asshole, who woke you up, is my brother, Joey.”
Joey’s blonde hair is in its usual man bun, his lean muscular arms on full display in his white tank and dark blue board shorts.
That tall six-foot-three frame ensures his good chances of keeping this physique.
His stare dances between Kailey and me before he holds out his hand to grab hers in a soft handshake.
“Soooo, you’re the beautiful girl my brother has been talking about all week.”
This fucker woke up on the wrong side of the bed, wanting a fight. I reach for something, anything, in the truck bed to chuck at him. I end up throwing an empty soda can at his head; of course, he dodges it. Joey chuckles while staring at it lying on the ground.
Kailey stands, then casually hops down from my truck’s tailgate.
“Well… I sure as shit hope I’m the only beautiful girl that he’s been talking about.
” She raises her eyebrows at me, silently questioning me as I follow her movement to the ground.
Is that a hint of jealousy? Ownership? Yep, I think it is… I like that look on her.
“Now that this isn’t awkward at all, can we all please go inside?
I’m hungry, and you won’t like me when I’m hangry,” I whisper into the crease of her neck while wrapping my arms around her from behind.
Goosebumps form on her arms. As her body melts into mine, her ass grinds onto my now very hard dick.
This woman is going to be the death of me. Not wanting to take my hands off of her, I keep a firm grip on each of her hips as I walk us up the stairs and into the house. After showing her where the bathroom is, Joey and I head to the kitchen.
Mom taught Joey and me from a young age how to cook. Telling us breakfast was an important way to a woman’s heart. Let’s hope she was right about this feisty Greek goddess that’s currently freshening up in my bathroom.
Joey slides up beside me, shoulder bumping mine. “I like her; she’s got kind of a ‘you either like me or you don’t’ attitude going on.”
“Yep, she’s great.” I pour the ingredients for pancakes into a bowl, mixing it all together. I want to end this conversation before Kailey comes into the kitchen. Hoping my heart-eyes don’t give away too much to my brother.
“Did you guys fuck?”
Putting my hand up to silence him, I listen to make sure I still hear movement down the hall in the bathroom.
“Did you wake up and decide to be stupid today? No, I did not fuck her, and no, I’m not talking about her to you anymore.” Taking a step away from Joey, I give him a stern look. “Yes, I like her—a lot. That’s all you need to know.”
Joey places his empty coffee mug into the sink, leaning his hip into it before facing me. He pauses before a hand rubs at his jaw line, taking in the expression on my face. I turn toward the stove, pouring small amounts of batter in the pan.
He holds his hands up in surrender. “Wow, okay. I was just asking; it’s not like you’re a virgin. Bro, calm down. She’s hot, and I know you’ve wanted her all week. I just assumed you got it in. Don’t act all holy on me now.”
Light footsteps make their way down the hallway.
I point the spatula at him. “Okay, enough. Don’t you have somewhere to be? Preferably anywhere but in this kitchen?”
A sweet as sin grin forms on his face. “Nope. Actually I think I’ll hang out here for a bit.”
Kailey walks into the kitchen, fresh-faced with her hair tamed down.
When she smiles at me, it makes me forget all about my idiot brother.
The pancakes start to sizzle, so I distract myself by flipping them over, placing a few chocolate chips into the batter.
By the way my body reacts to her presence, you’d think I was a newb around the ladies.
She twirls her body around, taking in the view of the kitchen. “I feel so much better after brushing my teeth. I’m beyond thankful you had a brand new toothbrush stored in a spare drawer. I can throw it away before I leave.”
Our eyes connect. I’m caught off guard by her statement of needing to throw away the toothbrush. It’s hers now. “What? Why? Just leave it. You never know when you might need it again, Dimples.”
Clasping her hands together, a deep red blush fills her cheeks as she walks over to pour herself some coffee and use the creamer I set out. My front teeth sink into my bottom lip as I think about how I want to see that blush spread all over her body.
She shrugs slightly. “If you say so…”
Joey makes conversation with her easily. Such a smooth talker, my brother—gotta love it. Once Kailey mentioned her sister, Beth, his demeanor perked up. Excitedly asking all about her sister as I finished cooking our breakfast.
I place a plate with a small stack of pancakes in front of her, and Kailey digs in right away.
I do love a woman who’s not afraid to eat…
Once she takes the first bite, she lets out a soft moan, causing syrup to slip out of the right side of her mouth.
Before I can talk myself out of it, I swipe the small drop with my thumb, watching as her eyes zone in on the digit.
I stick it into my mouth, sucking the syrup off, and releasing it with a loud pop.
I don’t miss the way her nipples harden underneath the thin swimsuit cover-up.
I really should offer her one of my shirts and some basketball shorts… After breakfast, I’ll do that.
“These are ah-mazing. Honestly, I can’t believe you can actually cook.” Kailey doesn’t try to hide the surprise that’s written all over her face. She continues to shove another forkful of pancake into her mouth.
Joey chimes in nonchalantly, cool as a cucumber, “Our mom made sure we could cook. You know… to make the women in our lives happy. It has definitely come in handy a time or two.” He gives her a shit-eating grin, and I’m sure it’s to try and insinuate we’re big players with the ladies.
“Your mom is a very smart woman. This is a total turn-on.” Kailey licks her lips slowly, trying to remove all the syrup. Her luscious lips are glistening, teasing me to suck on them.
I enjoy watching Joey and Kailey talk back and forth, knowing her attention is never too far from me.
She lets me know, every time her thigh rubs against mine under the table.
Or when her eyes lock on mine. Joey is my best friend, and I do want them to get along, but my patience starts to wear thin once breakfast is over.
Today, the sun is shining and there’s a cool breeze, making this the perfect opportunity to ride the ATV and show her around our inherited property.
Joey’s tone grabs my attention. “Ohhh, Kailey, that is a great idea! I would love to go on a double date with you guys and meet your sister. Is she as pretty as you?!”
Grunting, I kick him hard under the table, ending it with an icy glare to, Cool it with that shit.
“She’s even prettier than me, Joey!” Kailey whispers seductively, swatting his shoulder.
I knock on the table with a fist. “Okay that’s enough, you two. Joey, you get to do dishes since I cooked. Dimples, do you have time to ride the ATV with me? I’ll grab you a shirt and some shorts of mine to wear. I can show you why I enjoy being out here so much. Then I can take you to Brittney’s.”
Kailey places her plate in the sink and turns to face me. “I love a good ride; let’s do it!”
Joey laughs at her, and then mouths, over her head, I bet she does. He’s an idiot.
