Chapter 27
KC
Holy shit! When Brittney said there was a hotel connected to where the cage fights were being held, I did not expect this.
Whatever the top stars would be for a hotel, this place exceeds it!
Brittney parked her white BMW in the underground parking lot, where a bellhop stood, waiting to carry the few bags of luggage we had up to our penthouse suite.
The view from these windows is amazing. While I’m looking outside, I notice there’s a line of cars turning into the lit-up arena. Everyone must really be excited for the fights tonight.
“Shit!” Brittney rushes out from the double-door bathroom.
“What’s wrong?” I turn around, noticing she is rifling through the clothes we laid out on the bed.
“I can’t find the parking garage ticket.”
“We literally just got here; you couldn’t have lost it that fast, babe.” I turn back to look outside. People-watching is one of my favorite things to do. Everyone seems so tiny from up here. I place my palm against the cold glass and wonder how many people could see me if they looked up right now.
Brittney grabs me by my shoulders, physically turning me toward her. “It isn’t funny, Kailey; if we can’t find that ticket, my car will be stuck in that garage, okay?!” Her voice is laced with annoyance.
“Okay… Well, what have you done since we got here? Let’s backtrack.”
“Uhm... went pee, and before that, I laid out our clothes on the bed…” She paces the suite, from the bathroom back to the king size bed.
Her purse is sitting on the right nightstand. “Didn’t you clean your purse out too?”
“Fuck, you’re right… Let me check the trash.”
Brittney heads straight for the small trash can, next to the bed, that she used earlier to empty out the trash from her purse.
She crinkles her nose up. “You would not catch me digging in a trash can if we hadn’t just got here.”
“Oh wait! Should I grab a picture while you’re down there? I mean, for memories and all,” I tell her, holding my phone up and pointing it down at her. My smile is returned with a glare as her hand goes deeper into the trash bag.
“I think I got it!” Her hand shoots up, holding the parking ticket receipt… and something stuck to her finger…
“What is that?!” My eyes go wide.
Brittney catches my stare, then notices why I’m staring, and flips her shit. Brittney flings her hand as fast as she can, and the thing that was stuck to her finger flies off, attaching to the mirror on top of the dresser across the room.
We both slowly walk over toward the mirror, our steps faltering when we realize…
“Is that a fucking condom?!” I can’t help the high pitch in my voice that comes with this question.
Gagging sounds pull my attention from the mirror.
“I’m going to be sick! What the hell?! We’re the new fucking guests in this room; it had to have been cleaned!!!” Her voice goes higher. “This is supposed to be a top-notch hotel…”
“Gross, and it had to have been used!!! And the way you were flinging that condom around, Britt… you’re lucky it didn’t land on me!
“Okay, calm down, princess. At least your precious fingers didn’t touch that gross, used, wet, sticky latex!!!”
Valid point. “Maybe… the maids had a quickie before we checked in?” I cover my mouth, trying to conceal the laughter that’s fighting to bubble out of me.
Brittney, being the mature one, grabs a piece of toilet paper and uses it to pull off the used condom from the mirror, throwing it in the bathroom trash can.
I calmly walk over and place my hand on her upper back. “We could totally just leave right now. Maybe this is a sign that tonight is a no-go.”
She takes a step away from me. “Oh yeah, nice try, Toots. We’re going to do our makeup then change into our beautiful gowns… after I wash my hands with scalding hot water and soap.”
She stomps around in the bathroom, and I hear the sink turn on. Whew, thank goodness that was on her and not me. Well, at least this will be a memory that won’t ever be forgotten from this night.
A knock on the door startles me and brings me out of my thoughts.
“One sec!”
I open the door cautiously and notice a doorman holding a present in his right palm and a smile plastered to his face. “Hello, this is for Brittney from Skyler. He wanted me to tell her that he can’t wait to see her at the fights. And that he expects to see this on her at the after-party.”
“Oh, thank you.” I grab the box out of his hand. “She’s in the bathroom. I’ll give it to her.” He continues to stand there and stare at me.
Do I give him a tip? I hustle over to my purse and grab my wallet—I only have twenties… I hand him a twenty dollar bill, and he takes it from my hand, nods, then turns around and walks out of sight.
Shutting the door with my foot, I head straight for Britt.
“Ohhh, Brittney… you have a present.” I inspect the box; it’s fairly light, probably something elegant. From what she’s told me about this guy, he spoils her with gifts and is phenomenal in bed. Ugh, so happy for my best friend.
“What the…” Her head pops up next to mine.
“Take it, and open it. I wanna see what’s inside! And we really need to finish getting ready.”
Brittney opens the box carefully, and she lets out a soft gasp when she takes out another smaller box. That one contains a beautiful black diamond necklace. “There’s a note…”
Smokeshow,
Be my lucky charm and wear this for me. See you soon, baby. I love you.
Skyler
Noticing she hasn’t moved, I stare over her shoulder at the note and the gift. “It’s beautiful, babe,” I tell her, guiding her over to the stand-up mirror. I gently take the necklace from her hands and latch it around her neck. “This… this really finishes your outfit.”
Her eyes are teary when she looks at me in the mirror. “I really do love him.”
“Then let’s get sexy as fuck and go cheer on that man of yours!” Clapping my hands, I head to where my makeup bag is on the bed, then grab the curling iron to preheat. Game on.
