9. Carrie

Carrie

Genny and I were both quiet on the way back to my place, our fun little burrito excursion overshadowed by the missing person alert.

I couldn’t believe I’d gotten myself into such a ridiculous situation, harboring a runaway princess.

How was this my life? I was a middle aged caterer with a quiet life, but in less than twenty-four hours Genny had somehow turned everything upside down.

She looked adorable in her cargo pants and trucker hat. And that tank top she’d borrowed from my sister highlighted curves that I didn’t realize she had. Looking at her now she looked like any other random lesbian in the city, not some fancy pants princess.

“Is it okay for me to use your computer again?” she asked when we got home. “I want to talk to my sister.”

“Of course.”

I settled on the couch, pretending to read a book while she tapped on my laptop. A few minutes later she plopped down next to me on the couch, the movement making her hat go askew.

“My sister says my parents are really mad. They’ve extended their trip to stay in Seattle until they find me.”

“You need to talk to them,” I said for like the fifth time since I’d found her in my van. “They’re probably really worried about you.”

“I told Evangeline that I was somewhere safe,” she said. “But they’re worried I’m being held hostage and someone else is accessing my email.”

“That seems a little far-fetched.”

She shrugged. “Yeah.”

When she didn’t say anything else I asked, “What’s your plan?”

“I don’t really have one,” she admitted.

“Do you want to stay a little longer?”

Her face immediately brightened and that did something funny to my insides that I didn’t want to examine too closely. “Can I? Just a few more days.”

I knew this was a terrible idea, but I heard myself saying, “Sure, as long as you make me more eggs.”

“I can do that.”

We watched two more episodes of Ride or Die, munching on our leftover burritos during the second one.

Genny was easy to hang out with. She wasn’t one to fill silences with inane chatter, which I appreciated about her.

Not that we didn’t talk. Truth be told, I was surprised how easy it was to talk to her.

When we weren’t reading or watching our show she told me more about her childhood, her job, the country where she was a minor celebrity, and I told her about starting my own business and how my sister and I used to drive our poor parents crazy when we were younger.

I didn’t even realize how late it was until we were both yawning.

“I guess I’d better go to bed,” I said, standing up and stretching.

The movement made my shirt rise up, revealing a strip of my belly, and Genny’s eyes fixed there until I cleared my throat. “Good night.”

“Good night.”

Before heading to bed I stopped in the bathroom.

I usually showered at night and even though I hadn’t worked today, I’d cleaned the house and painted so I wanted to make sure I’d washed all that off me before I slept.

After showering and brushing my teeth, I stepped out into the hallway.

I hadn’t brought my pajamas in with me. Living alone, I usually just walked across the hall naked, but out of consideration to my guest, I wrapped a towel around my torso before exiting the bathroom.

Genny was coming around the corner on her way to the guest room, and I came close to bumping into her.

We both stopped, and her gaze traveled down to my legs and back up to my face.

We both stood completely still, staring at each other, the air between us becoming charged with something that felt like electricity.

“I, uh…”

My words stuttered off as I realized I didn’t know what I was going to say anyway.

Genny took a step towards me, and I instinctively took a step back.

Her eyes still on mine, she took another step closer.

I retreated another step and felt my back connect with the wall behind me.

Genny’s eyes flared as she closed the distance between us.

She lifted one hand, pushing a hunk of my wet hair behind my ear, then kept her hand on the side of my face, waiting.

My cheek burned where her skin touched mine, and when I glanced down, I could see Genny’s pulse hammering in her throat.

Suddenly I couldn’t remember why it was a bad idea to kiss her, so I decided to go for it. Lowering my head, I pressed my lips against hers. When neither of us moved away, I slid my hand behind her head to hold her in place and deepened the kiss.

She tasted like the nacho cheese Doritos she was munching on after dinner, and when my tongue made contact with hers, I damn near lost my mind.

My entire body felt suddenly electrified.

I pulled her closer, but the height difference made it hard to get as close as I wanted, so I spun us around and boosted Genny up against the wall.

Her legs went around my waist, lifting the towel to bare my ass, not that anyone could see it.

I pressed my hips against her core and kissed her like my life depended on it.

I pulled back just enough to slide my lips across her jaw. Genny’s harsh pants turned into a little squeak as I took her earlobe between my teeth and bit down just enough to sting.

She reached up to turn my head back to her, drawing me closer for another kiss. This time she was the aggressor, sucking my tongue into her mouth as she held me exactly where she wanted me.

I’d been kissed before, many times, but somehow no kiss had ever hit me like this one did, especially not a first kiss.

I felt lightheaded from the waves of excitement crashing through me.

My nipples were sharp points pressed against the terrycloth of the towel that somehow still clung to my body, and I could feel my arousal dripping down my inner thigh.

Had I ever gotten this hot this fast? If so, I had no recollection of it.

My hands slid from Genny’s waist and down to cup the globes of her ass. She cried out against my mouth when I gave her a firm squeeze, imagining doing the same thing while she rode my face until I made her come her brains out.

We pulled apart, breathing heavily, and I stared into Genny’s eyes. They were wide and shocked and her expression was dazed. I knew the feeling.

“That was…”

“Yeah,” I said when she paused, apparently at a loss for words. “It was. But we shouldn’t…”

“Yeah.”

We both surged forward at the same time, our lips crashing together in another brutal kiss. It was like she was a drug and once I’d gotten a hit of her, I couldn’t stay away.

We kissed until our lips were bruised and my lower back was beginning to twinge from pressing her against the wall.

Then I lowered my head into the crook of her neck, catching my breath and trying to figure out what the hell had just happened.

I was no closer to figuring it out when I gently lowered Genny’s feet to the floor.

“We should go to bed,” I whispered, even though we were the only two people in the house. “Alone, I mean.”

“Yeah.”

Neither of us moved for a full minute. Then I drew on some inner strength I didn’t know I had and put some distance between us, not stopping until I was leaning against the opposite wall.

Genny recovered first.

“I’m going to, uh, use the bathroom if you’re finished.”

“Yeah, I am. I’m, uh… I’ll see you in the morning, okay?”

“Sure, of course, see you in the morning.”

She turned on her heel and raced into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

It was only once she was out of my sight that I was able to move again.

Gripping my towel, I headed into my bedroom and put on my pajamas, operating on autopilot.

My body knew what to do while my mind was replaying every second of that kiss.

I was still replaying it when I got into bed. My phone buzzed with a text from my sister.

Lizzie: How’s it going? You’ve been quiet this weekend. Working?

Carrie: I worked Friday but I’ve been distracted with other things this weekend.

Lizzie: Distracted? By what?

Carrie: I met someone, kind of.

Lizzie: Is this a situationship or the start of a relationship?

Carrie: I don’t know what it is. Not yet.

Lizzie: I hope you’re being careful and whoever this girl is, she’s going to treat you right. You deserve nothing less. [heart emoji]

Carrie: She’s wonderful. Unexpected. But too young. Plus we’re very different, and she’s way out of my league.

Lizzie: Transfer to a new league then.

Carrie: LOL

Lizzie: Is it too early for me to meet her?

Carrie: Definitely. I’m not even sure what we’re doing yet.

Lizzie: Well let me know when you figure it out so I can meet this woman who’s discombobulated my sister.

Carrie: How do you know I’m discombobulated?

Lizzie: Sister intuition. Listen, I’m heading down to L.A. for a work trip, but I’ll be back Friday night. Call me if you need me though.

Carrie: I will. Have a safe trip. Stay out of trouble.

Lizzie: What’s the fun in that?
