The door opened about five seconds after I pressed the doorbell.

“You made it.” Genny gave me a big smile, grabbing my wrist and pulling me inside her condo.

“I brought wine,” I said, holding up the bottle.

It wasn’t fancy, but the lady at the liquor store told me it would go with just about anything that Genny cooked.

“Great, thank you.”

She grabbed the bottle, set it on the little table by the door, and practically threw herself at me.

My back collided with the front door, and I wrapped my arms around Genny’s waist as she pressed her body against mine and pulled my face down for a kiss. At this point in our relationship, I shouldn’t have been surprised by the way my entire body lit up every time we kissed, yet I was.

We kissed until we were both breathless, until my nipples were hard points pressed against my bra and my panties were damp with arousal. These weeks of abstinence had been killing me. I hoped her enthusiastic greeting meant that she was ready for more.

“Well, you really know how to greet a girl,” I joked.

“Let me show you around,” Genny said. “It’s open concept, as you can see. The living area is over here.”

She walked me over to where a soft leather sectional was positioned so one side faced the window and the other side faced the large television screen mounted on the wall.

A low glass coffee table sat on a throw rug in front of the couch, softening the effect of the stark white walls and dark wood floors.

She pointed at a dark wood table surrounded by four chairs, the kitchen visible on the other side of a half wall with a long counter.

“The bathroom is the second door on the right, next to the guest room,” she continued, leading me down the hallway. “And this is the master bedroom.”

Genny’s bedroom reminded me of what heaven must be like.

A giant four poster bed was in the center, gauzy white material draped over the top.

The comforter was white and fluffy, and she had no fewer than six throw pillows on the bed, all in shades of pink and white.

When I stepped into the room, my feet sank into the thick carpeting.

One whole wall of the room was windows, giving an incredible view of the Seattle skyline.

“Nice room,” I said.

“My sister says it’s too white,” she confided. “But I like it.”

We made our way back to the living room, sitting across from each other on the couch and talking while we waited for dinner to finish cooking. Whatever it was, it smelled good, with hints of lemon and oregano.

The timer on Genny’s phone rang and she shot up out of her seat like it was electrified.

“The food’s ready,” she announced.

I followed her to the kitchen, but she handed me a bottle opener and waved me out. “Pour the wine and sit down, I’ll be right there.”

After pouring us each a glass of wine, I took the plastic wrap off the salad and mixed it up a bit to gather any dressing that had fallen to the bottom of the bowl. It looked kind of dry, but maybe she was planning to add the dressing later.

Genny came out with a dish filled with chicken breasts, potatoes, and broccoli.

“That smells delicious,” I said.

“Help yourself.”

I spooned out some potatoes and broccoli, noting that everything was a little too brown, telling me that it was probably overcooked.

Hopefully, it was just charred on the outside, and the inside was still edible.

I slid a piece of chicken onto my plate, then waited for Genny to serve herself before lifting my glass of wine.

“To the chef,” I said.

“To the guest,” she countered.

I knew something was wrong as soon as I stuck my fork into the chicken. Even though it was dark on the outside, it was still hard. I watched as Genny came to the same realization.

“What the hell?” she mumbled. “It’s still frozen on the inside.”

She turned her chicken over to reveal a blackened bottom. “Oh crap, it’s burned too. I think I forgot to turn down the oven.”

“How high was it?” I asked carefully.

“Well I turned it up to five hundred to preheat it faster, but I forgot to turn it back down to three seventy five.”

I rolled my lips in to keep from laughing. “Just so you know, setting the oven at a higher temperature doesn’t make it heat up any faster.”

She got this adorable look on her face, partway between confused and a frown.

“If the oven was too high why didn’t the chicken cook on the inside?”

“Uh, did you happen to put it in the pan frozen?”

“Was I not supposed to?”

I shook my head. “You either need to defrost it before cooking or cook it longer to bring it up to the right temperature.”

“But it’s already burned on the outside,” she pointed out.

“Yeah, you’d need to cook it longer but at a much lower temperature so it could cook gradually.”

“Damn it, the cook didn’t tell me that part. Can we eat the rest?”

“We probably shouldn’t since the potatoes and broccoli were in contact with raw chicken juice during most of the cooking. But we can just eat the salad,” I hurried to add. “Where’s the dressing? In the fridge still?”

Her eyes widened and I realized then that there was no dressing.

For a second I thought she’d burst into tears but then she started laughing. Big, loud belly laughs. I stared at her for a second, then joined in, our laughter ringing through the room.

“Well I really messed up my first chicken dinner, didn’t I?” she asked when she finally caught her breath. “Maybe I should have stuck with eggs.”

“Cooking can be hard,” I said kindly.

She rolled her eyes. “Not for you. Oh well, so much for my grand plan to impress you with dinner. How would you feel about picking up Thai from the place across the street?”

“I feel really good about it.”

Thirty minutes later we were back at the table, the ruined food thrown in the dumpster when we went to pick up food.

We shared some pad thai, coconut curry, and spring rolls, talking and laughing as we made our way through the bottle of wine.

Then we worked together to rinse the dishes and put them into the dishwasher, a domestic scene that reminded me of the way we partnered up on things when she stayed at my place while hiding out.

When the dishwasher was loaded Genny turned to face me, a look on her face that also reminded me of our time at my house.

“We’ve been dating for a while now,” she said silkily. “I think it’s time to take things to the next level, don’t you?”

“God yes.”

“How about I show you how comfortable my bed is?”

She didn’t need to ask me twice. Without a word, I bent my knees and tossed her over my shoulder. She was smaller and lighter than me, and it didn’t take much for me to carry her down the hallway, shrieking with laughter the entire way.

Once we reached her bedroom I set her down, adopting a stern face. “Get undressed.”

I expected her to tease me back, tell me I should too, but instead she gave me a little strip tease, slowly removing her clothing to reveal a sexy lace bra and panties set that nearly made me swallow my tongue. She looked like the best present ever.

“I bought these special for tonight,” she said sweetly.

“God, I love you.”

The words burst out of my mouth without any input from my brain, but I wasn’t sorry about it. I meant every word. I’d meant it the first time I said it, the day she left me to go back to Saint Marenne, but I felt it even more strongly now.

This dating idea had been a good idea, I realized.

It had made me fall deeper in love with her.

I was in love with the woman I thought she was before, but now I was in love with the whole of Genny, not just the sunshiney little princess crashing at my house.

I knew her on a deeper, more intimate level than before, and instead of fading, my feelings had only gotten stronger.

Any fears I had about her blowing me off or pulling some crazy stunt like she’d done with her parents had faded.

I knew she’d worked things out with her family, and seeing her go to her job and move through the world like the grown up she was helped me see that she was much more grounded than I’d originally thought.

“I’m glad to hear you say that,” Genny said. “Because I love you too.”

I stalked closer and she laughingly took a step back, and then another, until her back collided with one of the thick corner posts of the bed. I slid my hands down her arms, grabbing her wrists and drawing them over her head.

“Hold on.”

Genny’s pupils blew wide and she adjusted her arms to hold on to a section of post over her head.

The position lifted her breasts up like an offering, and I couldn’t resist lowering my head to tease her nipple through the lace.

She made an adorable little whining sound as I teased first one side, then the other, leaving dark wet spots over the fabric.

I licked my way down the soft skin of her belly then settled on my knees in front of her.

“Don’t let go,” I ordered as I tapped on her ankles in a silent order to spread her legs wider.

As much as it pained me to remove those sexy panties, I needed access, so I drew them down to her ankles, using them to restrain her legs.

Without hesitation I drew her lower lips open and licked her from bottom to top, stopping to tap my tongue around her clit before sliding back down to repeat the motion.

I flattened my tongue and began eating her out in earnest. When I glanced up to check on her, Genny was still holding onto the post above her head, so I whispered, “Good girl, hold on tight” right against her mound, making her shiver with need.

After a few more long, leisurely licks she was shaking, telling me that she was close. I licked my way up into her opening, fucking her with my tongue until I felt her inner muscles begin to quiver. Then I reached up and caught the closest nipple, giving it a hard pinch that sent her over the edge.

“Carrie,” she gasped. “Carrie.”

When I finally lifted my head again my tongue was covered with her juices. She looked down just in time to see me lick my lips and that’s when her knees gave out.
