Chapter four
FOUR
“Jaxson! How’s the villa?” Jaxson and a crowd of his cousins were piled under umbrellas drinking fruity drinks.
“It’s nice. It’s kind of far. I wish I had made a reservation here, since I’m by myself,” Jaxson said, bringing a straw to his lips. His cousin Darla had ordered him something he didn’t recognize, but it tasted like cherries.
“Sorry to hear about Mandy,” Darla said.
“It’s alright. Just wasn’t meant to be, I guess,” Jaxson said.
“Too bad,” Darla said. “Brian’s mom got crazy drunk last night, you should have seen it. She was flirting with every man at the bar, even the groomsmen.”
“Jeez,” Jaxson swore.
“You could spend the night with us tonight! You could sleep on the floor!” Darla turned onto her belly and pulled her straw between her teeth.
Darla was Jaxson’s favorite cousin, and he might have taken her up on the offer.
But he hadn’t worked out what he was going to do about Preston and Ben in Villa #3.
“I think I’ll pass… at least tonight,” Jaxson hedged.
“Why? Any cute girls over at your beach?” Darla waggled her eyebrows.
“It’s… kind of, I guess. I’m… exploring my options, I guess,” Jaxson said.
“You and Brian’s mom are both working out options, if you know what I mean,” Darla said.
“Gross,” Jaxson responded.
“Well, if it doesn’t work out, you’re welcome down here any time,” Darla said.
“Thanks,” Jaxson said.
