Chapter six
SIX
“Things still going good with Jake?” Cameron asked, trying to sound casual. Cameron and Zach were stretched out on separate sofas. Cameron had his laptop balanced on his pelvis, and Zach was holding his phone.
“Yeah. He likes coming over here. Says he likes our apartment better than his.” Zach glanced around his phone to look at Cameron. “Is he here too much?”
“No! He’s cool. I like him.” Cameron cringed. Cool was a stupid word to use for Jake. Jake was funny and considerate. If they made food, they left some for Cameron. If they watched something on TV or played video games, they invited Cameron to join them.
And Jake was hot. As much time as Cameron spent with them, he still struggled to look Jake in the face. He kept picturing Jake with his hands all over Zach, lying underneath him, while Zach painted Jake’s chest with his come.
It didn’t help that Zach and Jake kept having loud sex in Zach’s bedroom.
It usually wasn’t loud the way it was the first night, with the headboard banging on the wall.
But every few nights, Cameron could hear moaning and soft thuds from the adjacent room.
Sometimes the bedroom door was cracked open, and Cameron would catch glimpses of the men naked in bed.
Cameron always sped by the door when it was cracked open.
He didn’t want to get caught staring. Again.
“Are we too loud? Should we tone it down?” Zach asked, still holding his phone, but looking at Cameron.
“No, it’s fine. Do what you want to do, it’s your apartment, too,” Cameron said. He kept his eyes on the game he was playing on his computer. He was sure he was turning pink. He shouldn’t have brought it up.
“He likes you. I think that’s why he likes being here instead of us going to his place.” Zach looked back at his phone. Cameron’s brain stuttered. He didn’t know what to make of that. Was Zach jealous?
“I… thanks. Is that okay? I’m not… in the way or anything, am I?” Cameron asked. Zach shook his head back and forth against the armrest of the sofa.
“Nah,” Zach said. “I think we both like it when you’re here.” Something fluttered in Cameron’s chest. He liked being here with them as well. He’d been spending less time going out. It was nice being at the apartment with them.
“He’s coming over tonight. I think we’re going to watch another movie. Want to join us?” Zach asked.
“Uh, yeah. Probably.” Definitely.
