Chapter two
TWO
According to his phone, there was a lake with a few trails a short drive away. He filled up a water bottle, put on a pair of sneakers, and went outside for the first time in three days.
Greyson was not a hiker. He was a nerd, and he believed the best place for a nerd was indoors. But mental health walks were probably important, and he desperately needed a mood boost.
The small gravel parking lot by the lake was empty.
Greyson took his water bottle and keys and locked the car behind him.
The sun was bright and warm, but the air had a comfortable breeze.
The air smelled like fresh grass and a faint scent of water.
Greyson felt his mood slowly improving as he crunched over the gravel lot to the sign at the start of the trails.
Greyson let his mind wander as he looked at the buds of the flowers on the plants and trees around him.
He was a little lonely and more than a little horny.
He needed to try to meet more people. Maybe if he had a partner or two, he wouldn’t have been so grumpy about the fighting in his emails.
He thought about how he might meet someone.
He didn’t like using the apps. Going out to bars and clubs always felt like a disaster.
But it was spring, and the desire that he had managed to tamp down all winter was surging back like the new spring flowers.
He had to do something to put himself out there before he ended up saying something biting in an email he couldn’t take back.
