Epilogue
MORGAN
With Andie’s help and support, I finally got full custody of Charlie. Brooke was allowed to see him once a week for a few hours, and it was fully supervised until her court case, and then who knew? But I would keep fighting for my son, I always would.
“Hey, it’s only me,” I called out to Andie.
I don’t think I would ever get used to living with her and using my own door key to enter the house. It had only been a day and the feeling was strange; excited and nervous all at once.
“Hey, gorgeous. I have a surprise for you,” she called out in an excited voice.
My steps quickened when I thought about getting some mid-day sex. I’d left Charlie with my mother whilst I brought down more of our things. But Andie wasn’t in our room, she was standing outside the room next door.
“Okay, not what I had in mind,” I said, placing down the suitcase I has holding.
“Oh, I know what you had in mind.” She giggled. “But this is more important.”
“Okay, now I’m intrigued, whatever could be more important than sex?” I laughed, moving to stand at her side.
“This,” she said, opening the door and letting me see inside. “I hope you like it, but if you don’t, we can change it.”
I walked into the room, mouth open and turned slowly in a circle.
Andie had decorated the room in soft blues and creams, with Charlie’s name on the wall in three dimensional letters.
The cot that I had made for him when Brooke was pregnant sat against the far wall.
New child’s furniture in matching wood had been added to the room, and the garage I had hand built for him was on top a small child’s table.
Plushies and toys were scattered around.
I was floored and didn’t know what to say. She’d put so much thought into the room. She’d asked me to move in, knowing Charlie was a part of the package, and had done out the room just for him.
“Is it okay? I have people coming in to baby proof the house too, especially the pool area. They’ll put locks and baby gates on doors in the living room and alarms, so we know if they’ve been opened.”
“It’s perfect, Andie. You’re perfect. Thank you so much for this. Charlie is going to love it.” I looked around the room again, my cheeks hurt from the wide smile on my face. My chest expanded and warmth flooded through me.
“I’m so glad. I was nervous you’d think I was over stepping.”
“No, you haven’t, this is wonderful. He needs a room of his own and you’ve given him that. How did you get his cot?” I walked over and ran my fingers along the pattern I had spent days carving into it.
“I spoke to your mum. She contacted Brooke’s family, and they got it delivered here.”
“Thank you, baby, I love you.” I pulled her into me and kissed the side of her head.
She wrapped an arm around my waist. “I love you too, Morgan. Welcome home.”
