Back when the word insulated was used in reference to a new pair of long johns instead of a well-insulated house and open face heaters were in vogue, we really didn’t say we were conserving! It was just the way we lived.

For several winters we piled dozens of quilts on top of us to keep US above the freezing point.

That was when we jumped into bed, warmed up a spot with our body heat and tried hard not to move all night.

Dear hearts, it’s not easy to turn over under that many quilts, but when you do and find yourself between sheets that would make a snow cone look warm, it just takes a second to move the mountain on top of you as you frantically search for the WARM spot! !!

And that was another experience. While our back sides got roasted to the well-done stage our front sides still hovered around the dangerous freezing point. It was a constant struggle to try to get BOTH sides warm once!!
