Lennox is acting a bit strange, but he did tell me he wasn’t really a morning person.
I’m glad he was still sleeping when I got out of the shower because as quiet as I was in there, I’d be fucking mortified if he heard me.
Especially the last word that flew out of my mouth uninvited, unexpectedly. The one simple word that made my orgasm burst out of me with no control.
Lennox.
What the hell was I thinking?
I was thinking about our almost kiss and about how last night was like a perfect date but not a date. I don’t date. I don’t go out. I don’t spend time with people. But I enjoyed every minute of it and I’m feeling more confused than ever for my soon-to-be co-star. I need to get my mind right here.
I can’t afford to get mixed feelings or confuse his intentions. We’re actors, the scenes don’t mean anything. They can’t mean anything.
Plus. I’m. Not. Gay. I’ve never been attracted to men. I tell myself this as I side-eye a glance at Lennox wondering why my stomach does a weird flip.
I shake my head, attempting to shed those thoughts and remind myself again I don’t like men.
I can’t even imagine how my parents would react. The thought of me portraying a gay man in a movie is too much for them to handle. I can’t even fathom what they would think if—
No. It’s not even an option. I’m just confused because I’m a method actor and I’m diving headfirst into my character. All of this means nothing.
A loud thump and bang vibrates through the wall near the front door and both Lennox and I turn our heads in that direction.
His eyebrows pull down in confusion, as do mine.
“What was that?” I ask, placing my mug down on the counter as I step toward the front door.
“I’ll check.” He stands quickly, holding his arm to push me back.
“Your life is worth way more than mine.” He smirks and winks, attempting to be playful with the joke but there’s clearly something out there and we’re in the middle of nowhere so I can’t help the concerned expression that passes over me.
There’s no peephole, so Lennox slowly wraps his hand around the door handle and creaks it open, craning his next to the side to peer out.
Pulling it wider, he steps through the sliver of an opening, looks into the wooded area in front of the house then turns his gaze down the porch.
“Oh, fucking, fuck!” he screams, stepping back so urgently he hits the back of his shoulder on the doorway, stumbles over his own feet as he falls to the ground. Simultaneously, the door flies open all the way, exposing us both.
A massive brown bear with a bag of marshmallows over his snout jumps onto his hind legs, his head grazing the top of the porch cover.
“Holy shit!” I reach for the door and it roars a fucking monstrous growl. The bag rips off his face as the fluffy white puffs fly out everywhere.
I grip the side of the door, slamming it as fast as I can, then turn around leaning on it as I attempt to turn the deadbolt. Lennox’s feet slam against the base and we both stand there, chests heaving, practically shitting ourselves.
“Did you leave the s’mores out there?” I scream at him louder than I should.
“Yes! I didn’t think it was fucking bear bait!”
A loud thud bangs against the door and we both flinch. Then massive, thunderous vibrations ripple through the cabin as the Goliath animal retreats down the steps.
I double check the lock then step away, peering out the window—clearly what we should have done in the first place—just in time to see the rump of his ass disappearing into the woods.
“Jesus Christ, that was crazy,” Lennox confesses. “Did you see how close he was to eating me?”
“Oh, now you’re afraid of animals?” Judgment laces my tone for how much shit he gave me yesterday.
He levels me with a look. “It was a harmless deer, not a mammal at the top of the bloody food chain inches from your face.”
“Still, it’s an unpredictable wild animal,” I say, holding my hands up.
“Whatever, Moose. Let’s go read lines,” he says, oddly cute and defeated as he heads toward the couch.
He seemed invincible with all the outrageous things he used to do for his social media account. So, seeing him like this feels special considering his online image is so daring and devilish.
“The wild and crazy Lennox Rome can skydive and base jump but don’t put him in front of a bear—”
“Shut it, Wilder.”
