Trust Issues #2
Mom preferred me wearing much less fitted attire. I wanted to figure out what I liked though. I found a cute skirt and top. It was easy with everything being set out. I jumped in the shower. When I got out I loosely curled my hair.
I actually used some foundation because I looked tired. I put my outfit on and nodded, “Ok, this is good You can’t tell I’m exhausted, just a little tired.” The song started softly in my head. I snorted, “Is it actually Keaton this time, or a cute large black dog?”
The song got louder and I would swear it was annoyed with me. I was losing my mind. Someone knocked on the door. Well, a large black dog can’t knock ergo Keaton was here. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face.
I ran to the door and threw it open. Way to look casual, Odette. Real good job here. We are corresponding with someone we absolutely should stop talking to, and now we can’t find a small amount of chill with the guy we like.
I noticed Keaton looked tired too. A large part hoped he missed me like I missed him. He growled my name. I blushed, embarrassed about how much that turned me on. We were making out until my phone rang. I was both grateful and annoyed.
I dated Luke for seven months before we had sex. I’d say maybe I missed sex and that was why I was so into Keaton; however, I didn’t even orgasm with Luke. I couldn’t be missing sex, could I? I answered the phone surprised Keaton could hear Lee talking to me.
Was his hearing like mine? I almost asked him, but then I remembered the look on Luke’s face on my birthday.
The total flip of a switch he did with me.
It kept me quiet. I couldn’t have someone else think I was crazy.
Even though this just confirmed it. Keaton heard me talking to myself the other day too.
I really didn’t want Keaton to think I was crazy because the very thought hurt my soul. The voice in my head sang a sad tune. My little song was an emotional little thing, but to be fair, lately, so was I. So, that made sense since the voice in my head was me. Except it wasn’t.
I thought about the voice in my head on the way to school. I really should check my email. Maybe Lux Vennox could help me. If he really didn’t like my mom, then he had to know helping me would piss her off. It actually made me want to talk to him more.
Any passive aggressive way I could get back at that woman, I was taking at this point.
I was just a whole basket of mentally unhealthy lately.
I still couldn’t believe she wanted me to stay with Luke.
I knew she was pissed that I learned how to fight.
I couldn’t fight back my smile thinking of that day I took that step.
Flashback
Odette was nervous. I walked into the gym and was surprised to find that it was completely empty apart from Melanie. She grinned when she saw me. I asked, “Uhh where is everyone?” Melanie shrugged, “I shut it down.”
I snorted, “Are you the owner or something?” Melanie answered, “Well… I mean… yes.” I gasped, “I was joking.” My rescuer shrugged, “Well, I am the owner…. and I shut it down. Now, let’s get started with a warmup.”
Melanie had us jog around a little indoor track before we got into the ring.
She told me, “Ok, basic hard and fast self-defense knowledge…. to avoid using your fists.” I asked, “Huh?” Melanie explained, “Elbows and knees are deadly tools to use…. when you’re learning self-defense.
Fun fact, your elbow can break someone's cheek bone… very easily. Sierra says that’s not a fun fact… but I’m pretty sure it is.”
I agreed, “I didn’t know that and I think it’s pretty fun.” Melanie beamed, “I knew it! That’s for close range fighting… which self-defense is… so that’s redundant. Anyway, kicks of all kinds are effective.” I asked, “What do you mean? Isn’t it just called kicking?”
Melanie demonstrated different kicks saying, “Front Kick, side kick, back kick, and round kick.” As she went. She urged, “You try.” I copied what she did, certain I nailed it. Melanie nodded, “Good. Again.” I did as she said and we got into a rhythm of going through a round she set up.
Melanie continued the lesson, “Good. If you’re fighting a guy, any type of kick to his uh…. Well... manhood… is effective.” I snorted, “Manhood?! Are you reading smutty books? You can say dick.” Melanie started to turn red so badly it creeped up her neck.
I gasped, “You do read smutty books!” Melanie shrugged, “I mean…. maybe a few.” I laughed, “That’s too good. I love it.” Melanie changed the subject, “Always a good beginning self-defense move to have in your pocket, is the rear naked chokehold.”
I teased, “You can say naked and not dick. Never change, Mel.” She blushed even more then put me into the hold and showed me how to perform it. We did it until I was more fluid in the move. Melanie got pads for her hands and gave me gloves.
My rescuer showed me some punches. I said, “I thought I wasn’t supposed to punch.” Melanie said, “You need to know the others, but not teaching you to throw a punch would be… well… it’s an instinct… so… you should learn how.” I laughed and she put me through the paces.
I was dripping sweat, and out of breath, by the time we were done. Melanie frowned, “Maybe I should put you on my cardio program too… I mean… it’s just that running is also part of self-defense… like being able to outrun people can definitely be paramount… to survival.”
I snorted, “I’m not a cardio girl.” Melanie shrugged, “Anyone can be a cardio person according to my Xander.” I waved, “Yeah, you talk about him a lot, but I’ve never seen him. Where is this boyfriend of yours?”
Melanie faltered, “I don’t… ummm… I don’t have a boyfriend… and…” I asked, “So you use possessive pronouns talking about someone who you are having sex with?” Melanie blushed, “Umm no.” I snorted, “Girl, have you even talked to him?”
Melanie looked relieved when she answered, “Yes.” I urged, “Ok, show him to me.” Melanie went over to the laptop that she had cued up. She hit play and I saw two guys fighting each other in a video. I snorted, “Well, both of them are hot. Which one is your Xander?”
Melanie pointed to the guy that was by far the more shredded of the two. Damn. No wonder people in town said they’d never be her type. They were right if this was the man she was infatuated with. I asked, “Does he leave the gym?”
Melanie sighed dreamily, “Sometimes.” I asked, “So, do you know him from the videos?” Melanie shook her head, “No, he’s my brother's best friend.” I squealed, “OOOOHHHHHHH you so read the brother’s best friend trope!” Melanie flushed and I knew I was right.
I nudged her, “Well, I’m sure he’ll see how amazing you are one day. They always do in the books.” Melanie sighed, “Life isn’t really like that… for me… it is for other people though.” I winced knowing she was right. I knew all too well life was not a fairytale.
Flashback Ends
That memory faded when we walked inside the school, Keaton was honest to god growling at the girls who threw evil looks my way. I teased him about being the wolf god, Fenrir. What could I say? I liked all things Supernatural for a really long time.
Ok, I still liked it. I just thought the concept was cool. Melanie had given me other books that were really cool and had different takes than the normal ones I’d read. I accidentally told Keaton I was into that type of stuff. God, he was going to say I’m crazy.
I was cringing internally, recoiling, ready for the slap Luke would’ve delivered.
Keaton didn’t slap me though. He surprised me by being into Supernatural things.
What? The super-hot senior jock was into Vampires, Werewolves, and everything in between?
Was he literally perfect? Keaton kissed me after he walked me to my class.
Several girls glared at me until Immy snapped at them, “What are you looking at?” They immediately looked away. Immy snorted, “That’s what I thought.” I laughed, “It’s expected. I’ve seen it literally a hundred times.” Immy frowned, “They should mind their own business.” They didn’t.
I heard the girls in the back of the class talking. One sighed, “Keaton’s finally done with Lisa, and the new girl gets him? That’s not fair!” I snorted because life wasn’t fair. If anyone knew that it was me. The other girl grumbled, “What even is she? Keaton deserves better.”
What am I? Seriously? Was this town that big on townies versus out of towners? That was insane. The voice in my head was softly hissing. I was actually grateful it just wasn’t loud hisses. I waved to Immy when the bell rang.
I walked around the corner with a smile on my face until my book was knocked out of my hands. Before I met Melanie, I’d have looked down and gathered my books quickly. I’d met her though, so I looked up glaring. They weren’t expecting that.
I said, “I’ll assume you lost all sense of decorum and will find it after this encounter. I’m not someone you can bully or demean into behaving how you’d like me too. You don’t like that I have a date with Keaton? Well, that’s too bad for you. Newsflash, I do not care.”
Another girl came around the corner. The girls ignored me and knocked a book out of her hands. Pages flew everywhere causing a catch in her breath while she started picking them up. I hissed, “LEAVE!” The girls turned their necks then looked stunned. Ok, that was not normal. They took off.
I snorted, “Weirdos.” The bell rang and the halls were now empty. I began to help the girl pick up her pages. I looked at one and gasped, it was a beautiful wolf. I picked up another page with a person drawn on it easily noticing it was Justin. He looked strong and handsome.
Another picture was of a beautiful spot in a forest somewhere. I handed the pages back to her. I complimented her, “You really capture what you draw, that’s rare. There’s life in those sketches. I’m Katie.” I stuck out my hand.
