A Royal #4

Alexandria whispered, “I’m fine.” Emmett snarled, “And if Odette has some type of sight?!” Clara argued, “Odette is not a Fairy, we know that for a fact. I think Odette is talking about the past right now. She said wannabe murderer.”

I heard Malachi say, “I’m looking, Emmett. Clara linked me her computer’s password. I’m into my sister’s research files, looking up clairvoyance. She had it bookmarked.” I looked at my Beta. Clara shrugged, “I told you, I went down a rabbit hole.”

Matt chimed in, “I’m looking too. We will figure this out, Chase.” Well, this really did become a conference call. Channing snorted, “Mate has powers. We can’t tell her about the Supernatural and NOW she has powers.” Yeah, this was getting dicey.

Dad growled, “Sure we’ll figure it out. We can’t ASK Odette about this because she has some block up and it could push her into shock or something.

Who knows what asking could do? Not us. CAMERON, you tell my niece to tell that ex-boyfriend of hers I will TEAR HIM TO PIECES if he doesn’t figure this out. ”

Uncle Cameron replied, “That makes me not want to tell her if we are being honest. I loathe him.” Dad snorted, “I barely refrained from killing that idiot when he cheated on Rya. I’m at my limit. I need to be able to talk to Odette about what she’s seeing!”

I pointed out, “Uncle Eric might know. Odette’s talking about some grudge against Cassandra Conners, and we all know Odette can’t know who Cassandra is.” Grandpa Frank snorted, “Yeah, that doesn't really narrow down our suspects. We need more information.”

Dad yelled, “DAD, COME ON!” Grandpa Frank asked, “What? Your wife HATED that woman. She broke her back once, it was a thing of beauty.” This conversation was going in a direction I did not expect at all. Channing muttered, “With more people than expected too.” No joke.

Dad yelled, “Excuse me?! Lexi did what now?” Grandpa chuckled, “I happened to be out for a run and saw them throw down. The Black Arrow gave it to Cassandra good. I’m such a good person that I even waited until Cassandra healed and managed to get back home.

The finest whiskey has got to be ready for me in the afterlife. ”

Odette mumbled, “Shroud. Lexi. Eric. God. Someone, help him. He’s so sad. She has to wake up.” Dad gasped. Keith said, “Ok, Odette’s clearly seeing something. She doesn’t know what the Shroud is.” Odette laughed, “Dylan is funny. What does SGAP stand for?”

Keith wondered, “Can we ask questions back?” Clara tried, “What do you see, Odette?” My mate answered, “A woman with auburn hair. They sedated Eric. Her brother is here…” Odette trailed off and didn’t say anything else. Keith announced, “This is officially trippy.”

I asked, “What is Odette talking about? No one ever sedated Eric.” Dad admitted, “They did, specifically Jackson did. Haley was unconscious and fighting some spell. Your mom was a wreck.” I growled, “What happened?” Did someone need to die? Channing paced in my head.

Dad explained, “There was a fight, and Haley took a spell meant for your mom.” Of course, she did. I asked, “Why don’t we know that? Why would Odette see that?” Clara chimed in, “I’ll look more into clairvoyance.” Matt said, “Malachi and I are looking.”

Dad answered my question, “You were two when it happened, Keaton, and Haley woke up. Aiden did something.” Odette spoke again, “Red and black are not good colors to glow. Surely, they know that.” Dad gasped again.

Clara quickly asked, “Haley glowed red and black?” Dad answered, “Yes, there was security feed we watched. There was no sound, but Haley glowed red and black. Holy shit, Odette really is seeing the past.” I asked, “But why of all things is she seeing Aunt Haley and Uncle Eric?”

Dad admitted, “I have no idea.” Odette grumbled “Who cares if someone is gay? Beta, really? Do people really call men Beta’s?” We all held our breath. Odette whispered, “What girl?” Now we were confused.

My mate yelled, “HEY! That conversation wasn’t over! What the hell?! Did his mate move on? Is she waiting for him?” Clara questioned, “What the ever loving fuck?!” Matt said, “I have no idea. I thought she meant me, but there is no female mate waiting for me. Your dad is my fated mate.”

Odette whispered, “Key, what’s wrong? Stop crying!” I frowned. Odette screamed, “I’LL KILL HER! I will EMbrACE my mob side.” Grandpa snorted, “I think your girlfriend is seeing Lisa.” Keith snorted, “You think?”

I looked at Clara who shrugged. Odette screamed, “STOP SAYING THAT TO HIM!” Keith hummed, “If Odette wakes up and goes after Lisa, I say we let her.” We all turned to stare at my twin.

Keith shrugged, “I’m just saying that Odette sounds angry enough that she could kill Lisa.

I can’t help but point out that act would make all our lives would be better. I’m just saying is all.” I snorted.

Odette quieted and stopped glowing. Clara whispered, “Wow.” I asked, “Why would Odette see us? Why wouldn’t she see her brothers? Or her own past? Why would she see OUR past?” Dad replied, “It’s safe to say we don’t have those answers.”

Emmett said, “What we do know is that Joe and I are putting people on Alexandria and Keith.” Keith retorted, “Keith is just fine.” Emmett snarled, “It’s thoroughly possible that someone has a hit out on you.

” Keith snorted, “Just ask the techy Luna, she’d know.

” Keith was right. Channing snorted, “We would know.” Also, true.

My wolf urged, “Say that.” Ok, it’s already awkward, why not?

I said, “I’d know.” Everyone looked at me. I asked, “What? I would. I do our threat assessments.” Emmett snapped, “I don’t care. There will be guards on Keith and Alexandria for the foreseeable future. SOMEONE get me the answer to what Odette is. Malachi, where is Giz?”

I growled, “That’s such a stupid name.” Emmett agreed, “It is.” Malachi announced, “He’ll be here later.” Emmett smiled, “Great. I’m punching that prick in the face.” Malachi laughed, “Colton will be pissed since you wouldn’t let him punch Giz in the face multiple times.”

Emmett said, “Yeah, well being the Lead Alpha comes with perks. I’ll tell Colton he can punch Giz after me.

” I reminded them, “Don’t forget Odette’s party later.

Let’s get some sleep.” Emmett grumbled, “Who could sleep?” Malachi snickered, “Not the Beta bloods, I’ll tell you that. We need answers.” I hung up the phone.

Clara winced, “You could ask Odette about her dreams. She’d have to think they were dreams right?

” I sighed, “I don’t know.” I didn’t want to push my mate away.

I was marked so I couldn’t lose her. I said, “For now, we give her the best birthday she’s never gotten.

” Channing agreed, “That is a perfect plan.”

Clara asked, “What’s nagging you?” I explained, “Why would Odette see the Conners? Me and my family, ok. I’m her mate. This stuff with Cassandra and seeing Haley and Eric, it’s odd.” Clara sighed, “Yeah, a little.” She left with the rest of the group, and I pulled Odette into me.

Emmett was right, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about everything Odette said.

My mom was crying, and someone wanted to kill my twin and sister in law.

Aunt Haley got hurt. Who was the mate? What prisoner?

These questions swirled in my mind. Did I miss a threat to my family? I wouldn’t let anything happen to them.

I got up and wrote Odette a note since sleep was evading me. I’d get my mate breakfast for her birthday, just not from a restaurant. I ran to the Shroud and knocked on my Uncle Health and Aunt Allie’s door.

My Uncle opened the door with a smile, “I thought you might come by. Your aunt made extra breakfast. I flashed in and hugged Aunt Allie. She said, “I’ll put them in to go containers so you can eat with the birthday girl.” I smiled, “Thank you.”

Aunt Allie walked out of the room. Uncle Health said, “So.” I snorted, “So.” I pulled the collar of my shirt to the left and showed him my mark. Uncle Heath dropped his cell phone, “I’m sorry. You’re MARKED?! I missed that memo.” I winced, “I’ve been putting concealer on it.”

Uncle Heath’s jaw dropped, “WHAT?!” I waved, “That’s not really the point. Do you see the crown?” My Uncle laughed, “Your mate is royalty. Ok, kid, we gotta tell your dad.” I mumbled, “Dad commented on the makeup, so he probably knows.”

Uncle Heath rolled his eyes, “Not even Chase went this far down this rabbit hole when he was younger. His was silly, but somehow, you’ve doubled down on his crazy.” I groaned, “I don’t know what that means.” My Uncle ran his hands through his hair.

Uncle Heath sighed, “Keaton.” I told him, “Last night Odette physically had a crown on her head. A green seashell crown appeared on out of nowhere. Weird things happened. I don’t know why I told you about the mark, I didn’t come here to talk about that.”

Uncle Heath dryly said, “Of course not. Why would you talk to me about being marked by your mate? Given you’ve told like three people she’s your mate. That’s crazy talk right there.” I ignored that jab, “Did I miss a threat against my family? Did I mess up?”

Uncle Heath’s expression changed on a dime, “No, or we would’ve caught someone coming for Alexandria and Keith.” I asked, “What if Melanie did?” Uncle Heath pointed out, “We could ask her, I’m sure she’d tell us. Or if she lied and we’d still have an answer.”

Channing said, “I’m certain Freya would pass us the tips now.” Maybe. Uncle Heath chuckled, “Watching that girl try to lie is hilarious. I heard Melanie thinks she’s getting better at it. I hope she doesn’t because that would be the end of the world.”

I asked, “Huh?” Uncle Heath explained, “Melanie amassed a loyal following and army. She also runs the Resistance. If ANYONE had asked her that, we’d have had a problem. I gather Cayden did and knew she was lying about being in the Resistance.”
