7 Damien
The Sellers were hosting their standard weekend auction.
My men had brought in six others to join for their bidding wars, and I’d get a good sixty percent of the cut later.
Letting them handle it, I made my way into where the arena was.
Finding my seat, I had a box that looked over all below me.
My father raised me in this lifestyle, and I knew better than to disobey him.
He hated that we didn’t get such a large cut of the money, but he also didn’t have the networking to sell as well as these criminals.
No one liked the Sellers because they weren’t above selling each other, but it was how we made a good cut of our money.
For our business, this was what we needed in order to keep making it.
Times were tough, even if my father didn’t want to admit to it.
“Here’s your Honey Jack and lemonade,” a waitress said, handing me my standard drink. We were the royals of the underground business, especially now that all the other heads of households were being taken out. None of them were close enough to know that my father had been a partner behind it.
“Thank you,” I responded right as three others came into the box.
“The drop go okay?” My father took his place beside me, watching over everyone converse below.
“It went as it always does,” I sighed. He never trusted me with much more than that, and I despised him for it.
“Good,” he partially praised. Being his only son, I hated that my dad treated me as though I was expendable like his other henchmen. My father was a ruthless man, compassion didn’t come naturally in his makeup.
Sitting in our silence, we watched below as they brought in first slave.
They never started with the best in the beginning, so people always bid lower on these ones.
It was a standard Beta male, but I could tell a lot of females in the audience were appreciative of his third appendage.
The size of it even had my eyes going wide.
“Jesus,” my father muttered his curse and whistled. We watched below as the bidding war began. There were a lot of disgruntled Alphas who didn’t want the Beta, but their females did. “Maybe I should buy him as a pet for my partner.”
His joke fell flat on my shielded ears because not even I knew who his business partner was. With our bodyguards behind us, my father was more than capable of protecting himself, but he liked the showmanship of henchman.
Before we could do anything else, a man in a white suit came up and kneeled beside my father.
Whispering something to him, my father hit my arm to stand and follow.
Doing as he instructed, it had been instilled in me since I was young to never disobey him.
We made our way through the crowd of people that were hovering the alcoves near the staircases.
Most of them were the bodyguards of others because there wasn’t a seat for them in the rows.
This place was old and falling apart, and it used to hold cage matches.
My dad wanted to bring those back because his money was once lucrative in the dealings.
The rings disappeared when new government powers came into play and wiped them out about six years ago.
My father was a man who wanted to go back to those old ways though, being as savage as he’d been raised, he liked to hold death matches.
He craved to push people past their point of humanity to embrace their feral nature.
That was the line I drew with him because that’s not what I wanted.
Selling people had been hard enough to stomach.
Traveling down further into the depths of the underground, we found ourselves on asphalt where the next slaves were up for auction.
A man in a white suit led us to stand before a man that reeked of betrayal.
I found it in his devious stare that voided all true emotions.
Someone had hurt him, and he wanted revenge.
“What’s the meaning of this?” my father asked.
I wasn’t too worried on whatever wanted to leave the guy’s mouth, but I did fixate on the young ones locked in cages. Usually, these events only sold adults, so seeing a handful of young teens was not appeasing to what I believed in. “Why are there children in here?”
No one paid attention to me because my father had been who they wanted attention from. The man in the cage got up and prowled to the edge, holding the bars with his hands to greet my father. “I heard you’re in the market to figure out who’s been saving the Alphas in the city.”
“Do you know who the person is?”
“That depends on if you can get me out of here without being sold first.” The man wanted to bargain for his life. A bold move but wise for the predicament he found himself in. Even if my father were to straight out kill him, it’d be a better fate than with the one he was up against right now.
“My word is bound,” my father told him. “If you have adequate information on where I can find the person and their name, I promise to free you from the Sellers. Now, what information do you have?”
“I was his Omega’s lover until I betrayed her by bedding someone else. I don’t know the Alpha’s true name, but I believe you know his Omega.”
“So, who is his Omega?”
“Everyone there calls her Omega in the compound, but I learned her real name.”
“And?” My father appeared bored. That drastically changed the moment he spoke again.
“Kit. Kit Andrews.”
The air in my lungs stopped moving once he said the name. Everyone who stood in my father’s ranks knew who Kit was. She’d been the one and only girl who outsmarted him and escaped, so this man was bold to bring up her name.
“Did you just say Kit Andrews?” My father’s nonchalant expression shifted quickly like the news grated every nerve inside him.
“There’s talk that she means more to you than anything else, so I’m hoping that will be enough to buy my freedom from you. She’s the Omega to the Alpha who’s saving the other Alphas. They are hosting them in their underground complex near the docks, but it’s heavily fortified.”
“You are full of quite the information.”
“I learned a long time ago that information is the only way to survive in Knotty City.” The man and my father had a conversation with their eyes for a moment, seeing if truth sat in his words.
“I’ll be purchasing this young man,” my father told the Sellers.
Without needing to see the money up front, they knew my father was good for it.
They’d probably take it from his cut from the slaves we brought in.
Releasing the young boy, my father nodded for him to follow.
I was a little mad he ignored the other problem in the room with us as I pointed to the children again.
“Father, we can’t just leave the kids here.” He turned toward me as though I had only been a hindrance in his life.
“What the Sellers sell is none of our concern.” And just like that, my father gave me his back while keeping his new purchase extra close.
I wasn’t sure what I needed to do in order to fix all this, but I knew I couldn’t let him get his hands on Kit again.
Not after I helped her escape him last time.
