Chapter 60 #2
A dark, sinister chuckle crept through the air. “Maybe my son did have the right idea. You aren’t what I expected you to be.”
“Your son?” Reiya’s breath caught in her chest as she heard those glass-shattering words.
“Yes, well, the one you killed. I can see now he had the right idea. Just not enough ambition. Pity.”
“What do you mean, the right idea? You mean with this war?” Reiya was hoping that was what he was talking about.
A deep cackle echoed in Reiya’s mind as a presence walked forward.
It was a man with bulging muscles, black beady eyes, and raven-black hair.
He smiled at Reiya. “Well, that too.” His eyes looked over her form, and a creepy smile rose over his face.
“You are a very strong fairy princess. Such a waste to only belong to the fairy realm. Too much of a waste, in fact.”
“Who are you?” Reiya looked at the man in defiance.
“I am Mephisto. An original demon. And you … you are going to be my toy. It’s the least you can do for killing my son.”
Reiya scoffed and folded her arms over her chest. “How revolting.”
“Abaas was right. Mixing our blood with yours will create powerful offspring. An opportunity I can’t let go to waste.”
“Sorry, I’m already taken. I have a mate.”
“You might be already taken, but your womb is not. And that’s what I’m interested in.
” Mephisto took a few steps closer to Reiya, who held her ground.
She locked her gaze on him with unrelenting determination.
“And that mate of yours? Yes, Leviathan. Mm-hmm, I know. Don’t worry.
I’ll be taking care of him soon. We can’t have a nuisance like him around, ruining our love affair. ”
Reiya narrowed her eyes at the demon, and a low growl escaped her throat. “I’ll kill you if you touch him.”
Mephisto chuckled as he eyed his prize in front of him. “I look forward to taming that spirit of yours.” He reached for Reiya, but a bright light illuminated her.
He took a few retreating steps backward and then sneered at the light in disgust.
“You are about to cross a dangerous line. This child is MINE!” a woman’s voice boomed.
“Meddlesome goddess. Have you not learned your lesson? Stay out of my business.” Mephisto growled at the light.
“You are going to make the void spin out of control again. I won’t allow it.” The woman’s voice hissed out.
Another figure walked in, a woman with black hair, pale skin, and black, beady eyes. “I see you have finally decided to reveal your hand to us.” The woman sneered.
“Selene and Kali, back at meddling in the world again. Balance doesn’t exist. It’s an unrealistic illusion that you’ve set up in your mind. There will always be one side that is stronger.” Mephisto sneered at Kali in disgust.
“Strength has nothing to do with balance. Balance is about the order that is maintained. And you are disturbing that balance. The balance we have been working hard to restore,” Kali spat at Mephisto angrily.
Mephisto smirked at Kali. “It doesn’t matter what you do. You can’t get Endymion back. You might as well just hand this world over to me.”
Kali glared at the demon with contempt. A bright light filled the dark room as a woman with blonde, shining hair materialized. “This world does not belong to you. This is Endymion’s world. And I’ll never let you taint it with your disgusting filth,” Selene said scornfully.
Mephisto grinned evilly at Selene before giving her a fake, sympathetic frown. “It’s just such a shame that Endymion is no longer here to take care of this world.”
With those words, Selene’s light began to rage out of control. She was going to destroy Mephisto herself.
“You can’t! Selene, you mustn’t,” Kali snapped quickly, reminding Selene of everything they were working to accomplish. If Selene was to kill Mephisto, she would be disturbing the balance. No, he needed to be destroyed, but in the chess match they had been setting up over the centuries.
Mephisto then redirected his gaze to Reiya.
He read her energy, studying her more deeply.
There was a reason these two meddlesome women were protecting this girl.
There was a reason they’d revealed themselves before they got to deal their hand.
He curled his lip, clicking his tongue in disgust. “You truly are a meddlesome woman,” he growled at Selene.
“You do know you’re being used right?” Mephisto said matter-of-factly to Reiya. “You’re just another part of this game they are playing.”
“Who is playing games?!” Kali spat out bitterly.
“Talking to the girl.” Mephisto clicked his tongue and shook his head.
“So rude.” He then smirked evilly. “They are going to use you to get what they want. They are planning to risk your life to get what they want. Oops.” He feigned innocence and held his hand up to his mouth, as if he’d let their secret slip.
“I gather she wasn’t supposed to know that until it was too late. ”
Selene and Kali glared quietly at Mephisto.
He sneered at the two and shook his head.
“Same game, just different pawns, I see. Well, you all have a lot to catch up on.” He looked at Reiya once more.
“I’ll be seeing you real soon. You belong to me.
” He winked at her with a cruel smile before he began to fade.
Reiya watched as his figure vanished from her mind, yet she remained trapped with the two women, who both turned to face her.
They met her gaze, and Reiya waited for them to explain themselves.
There must be something to what the demon was saying, since they never refuted it.
She wanted to know what they wanted of her. And how dangerous it was going to be.
