Three

~Devina's POV~

Once I regained consciousness, for what felt like the hundredth time today I immediately sat up. This time I was on a long leather couch in what looked like an office.

"Is she going to wake up?" I heard the same boy from earlier worriedly ask. I glanced over to the door and there was a man with a white coat staring directly at me.

"Why don't you see for yourself." The white coat man smiled and the boy turned around to face me.

"Can I go home?" I innocently asked. The boy furrowed his eyebrows and took a step closer to the couch.

"Do you have family waiting for you at home?" He asked, more like demanded. I shook my head.

"Not family." His eyes held anger towards this response.

"A boy?" I thought about it and then nodded my head. I guess Mr. Freddles was a boy. "No." He growled making my heart drop.

"But I- he won't survive if I don't-" A tear ran down my cheek at that thought. I guess you could say I was a pretty emotional girl, I always have been.

"Who?" He asked. "Who won't survive?" He growled and stood right in front of me. I frowned and looked down.

"What's your name?" I ignored his question with my own.

"Answer my goddamn question!" He yelled. He reminded me of the people back at school, always pushing me around. I stood up so that I was only inches away from his face, or I guess chest because he was so tall.

"Answer my question." This caused the boy to smirk and raise an eyebrow.

"You answer mine because I asked it first, then I'll answer yours." He proposed a plan and crossed his arms over his muscular chest. I willed my eyes off of his body and looked into his green eyes.

"Mr. Freddles," I whispered and another tear slid down my cheek. The boy started laughing and bent over, almost falling to the floor.

"Is he like your stuffed bear or something?" He tried to control his laughter, but it was no use. I looked around the room to find the doctor, but he wasn't there. My eyes widened when I realized I was in a room alone with the man who may or may not have ordered my whole school to be killed.

"No. He's my fish." I walked around him so we could be farther apart. "And I don't appreciate you laughing at me. It's not funny." The boy must have noticed my sly actions as he stood back up and also took a step back, respecting my boundaries.

"I'm sorry. You're right." He nodded and looked down at his hands. "Zane." He hesitantly looked up into my blue eyes.

"Okay good. I was starting to think your name was Alpha." I laughed and turned to look around the room. "Why do people call you that anyway?"

"What's your name?" He walked to stand next to me and peered out the window at the surrounding forest. I turned to my side to face him and gave him a pleading look.

"I just want to go home, back to my life." He closed his eyes as if my request pained him. "Please."

"What are you going to do when you get back?

Tell your parents you were kidnapped but then set free?

That a pack of wolves attacked your school?

Huh?" He ran his fingers through his brown hair, and for some reason, I felt drawn toward him.

I wanted to run up to him and- I mentally shook my head and closed my eyes.

"If you don't let me go I'm just going to run away." I threatened, earning a chuckle from Zane.

"Yeah right, like a human could outrun a wolf." I quirked a brow up.

"You're going to sick your dogs on me?" He sucked in a deep breath and looked towards the door which burst open and the boy who called Daniel off me earlier bust through sending me death glares.

"You know I should have just let Daniel kill you. Now he's dead because of you." He stopped right in front of me and held up a fist. I closed my eyes waiting for the impact but it never came.

"If you ever touch her again I won't hesitate to do the same thing to you as I did with Daniel," Zane growled and pushed him away.

"What's your deal man? Until just a few hours ago you were telling us to give no mercy, now you want to save a pathetic little human?" The man yelled.

"She's my mate!" Zane yelled causing both the man and me to widen our eyes. Mate? Is Zane Australian?

"No. That's not possible. She's-" Zane cut him off with a blow to the jaw.

"Get out before I throw you out of the pack." I took a step back from the boys and shifted uncomfortably.

"Pack? Look I don't know what kind of cult thing you guys are involved with but I just want to go back to my old life." The man laughed.

"Babe, your old life doesn't exist anymore."

"Don't call her that," Zane growled and pushed him out the door. I walked over to the couch and sat down, holding my head in my hands. "Hey," Zane sat next to me and put his hand on my shoulder, sending bolts of electricity through my body. I quickly stood up and looked at Zane.

"What was that?" Zane smiled and shrugged.

"I should probably get you home. It's getting late." I reached into my back pocket for my phone but it wasn't there. "Oh, here. Daniel took it," He reached into his pocket and handed it to me. "But I got it back." I took the phone from him and smiled.

"My knight in shining armor." I joked and turned it on. Three missed calls from Mom. I sighed and called her back. "One minute I have to call my mom back," I told him and waited for her to pick up.

"And where the hell are you?" She immediately responded. Part of me wanted her to ask if we were still going to see that movie tonight, or for her to be asking because she was worried and actually cared. But It's unhealthy to get your hopes up too often so I always expect the worst.

"I'm sorry I just got-" Zane furrowed his brows, probably expecting me to say kidnapped and tell her to come to save me, but I knew better if I wanted to survive. "Caught up with something. I'll be home soon." I fished.

"At the library again? God, you are so pathetic." I closed my eyes, hoping to God that Zane couldn't hear this. "No one at school is good enough for you are they? You think you are better than everyone else." I sucked in a deep breath and let it go.

"Everyone at school is dead, mom. You'd know that if you actually cared." She laughed as I whispered the last part.

"You attention whore. I don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth." She replied.

"Okay, mom. I'm fine thanks for asking, I'll be home in an hour.

" I looked up at Zane and he shook his head.

"Maybe two hours." I glanced back at him and he laughed and shook his head again.

"Oh my Goddess, I'll be home sometime." And with that, I clicked "end call" and turned my phone off. "Sorry about that."

"Let's just go before I change my mind about letting you go." He said and began walking out of the room, motioning me to follow him.

~Zane's POV~

As I listened to her conversation with her mom, I had to keep my hands clenched at my sides.

Her mom talks to her with zero respect and it makes me so mad.

How many years has this lady been blessed to share with this girl?

And I've only had less than two hours. I closed my eyes as I thought about leaving this little blonde-haired girl.

God, I don't even know her name. As soon as she ended the call, she gave me a weak smile.

"Sorry about that." I immediately calmed down at the sound of her voice and unclenched my hands.

"Let's just go before I change my mind about letting you go," I said and started to walk out of my office. We had a long car ride ahead of us, and I planned on using it to get to know this girl as much as possible. I stopped by the security room.

"Get my car ready," I told my head guard, Maddox.

"Which one Al-" I sent him a glare and shook my head.

"She's human. And important so watch what you say." I said through the mind link and Maddox grinned.

"Congratulations Alpha." He replied.

"Uh which one sir?" Maddox cleared his throat and said out loud.

I turned to the girl -God I hate calling her that- and smirked. "Fast or super fast?" I asked her, already knowing the answer.

"Super fast." My jaw nearly dropped and my eyes widened.

She doesn't even know how much harder she's making this.

I nodded and walked out of the room grabbing her arm in the process.

I don't think I can ever get used to the sparks, I know she feels them too but she has no idea what they are.

I want her to know everything, and to be a part of my world.

I abruptly stopped walking and turned around to face her, she was so close to my face, I could easily lean down to kiss her.

Her lavender scent filled my nostrils as she sent me a questioning look.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Uh," She furrowed her brows, one of the things she does when she's thinking. "Claire." My heart dropped. She's lying to me because she doesn't trust me.

"Don't lie to me." She sighed and took a deep breath.

"Devina." My heart raced, I knew she was telling the truth. I couldn't help smiling.

"It's a beautiful name." And I wasn't lying, even the sound of her name made me feel things. I turned back around and started walking again, making sure Davina was close behind. "And so are you," I muttered, knowing she wouldn't be able to hear me. Not with human ears.

"Wait, Zane," I stopped in my tracks and smiled. This is the first time she has said my name. I wanted to hear her scream it. I shook my head and turned around. "Thank you. For letting me go, I mean. I just wanted to say that before I leave." I took another step closer, not able to resist.

"You don't actually think I was just going to let some random guy take you home, do you?" She took a shaky breath and I smirked at the effect I have on her.

"You don't have to do that. I'll be fine."

"Yes, I do. And I know you will because you'll be with me.

" I grabbed her hand this time and intertwined our fingers, leading her outside and to my car.

It's a 2017 Nissan GT-R. It has a matte black wrap and the seats were red leather.

I walked around to the passenger side and opened the door with my free hand.

I helped Devina get in and then shut the door.

Once I got into the car I glanced over at her as I started the car, a huge smile spread across her face which resulted in me smirking. She was so pretty.

"I think this is my new favorite car." She laughed and turned on the radio to some pop station.

"What was your favorite car before this?" I questioned.

"Audi R8." It was extremely hot that she knew about cars. I burned that fact in my head. Now I know what my next purchase is going to be. In my pack, money isn't an issue.

"What's your favorite color?" I asked as I pulled out of the pack house driveway.

"Blue. Yours?" She shifted in her seat and hid her hands in the sleeves of her sweatshirt. I could tell she still didn't trust me.

"Blue. Actually, the same color as your eyes." She snapped her head towards me. Her eyes weren't just blue, they were like crystals.

"You should watch the road." She looked away out the window and watched the trees pass by. It's spring so the trees have started growing new leaves and buds. In the daylight, it's beautiful.

"Don't worry. I won't crash." I laughed and sped up a little, now we were going about 90 miles an hour.

"That's because you drive slow." She smirked. I'm a very competitive guy so I slammed my foot down on the accelerator and passed 120.

"How about now, kitten?" She held onto the handrest and giggled.

"How are you so sure you won't crash?"

"Because I never do." I simply replied.

"How old are you?" I started to slow down a little as we turned and glanced at her, catching her already looking at me. Technically I was over a hundred years old.

"18. And what about you kitten?" She giggled again and shook her head.

"16. And I thought I already told you my name." She adorably pouted. Damn, she's young.

"You did." She shook her head again and laughed. I was really starting to consider making a U-turn and bringing her back to the house. "You know you could stay. You don't have to leave." I tried and looked over at her.

"I do have to. I can't just drop out of school and live with a bunch of cult followers." I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and held my breath. She really has no clue what's going on. "And a cult leader." She added.

"I'm not leading a cult, Devina."

"Then what the heck is going on? You and your "followers" live out in the middle of nowhere so that other people can't see what's going on, everyone who lives there calls you Alpha like you're some kind of wolf pack leader thing and you called me your mate.

You don't sound Australian to me." I smiled at her rant and turned down the heat.

She got some of that right. I want to explain everything to Devina.

That's the only thing I want right now but why would I do that?

I need to reject her and let her go before someone gets hurt.

"And plus, I need to get home to see my fish.

" Right. I forgot about that. The way she talks about him makes me jealous.

A fish is making me jealous. I shook my head at my own stupidity and softly chuckled.

"Stop laughing at me!" She punched my arm which felt like a little tap.

It made me a little nervous to think about her having to fight someone, she'd definitely lose.

"You need to work on your punches Dev." I shot her a sly smirk at the nickname.

"Dev?" She asked.

"Yeah, Dev like Devina but shorter. It's cute." She furrowed her brows and shrugged. She likes it.

"Alright, Zanie." I slammed on the brakes and glared at her.

"No," I growled, that's what Gwen calls me. I shivered at the thought of being with her right now.

"Sorry." She softly replied and looked out the front windshield. I sighed and continued driving down the road.

"No, I am. I shouldn't have yelled like that.

" In just these past hours I've known Devina, I've changed for the better.

I used to never apologize or feel guilty for acting harshly.

I used to give no mercy, and every other pack knew it.

No one dares to mess with our pack, Crescent Moon.

The first time I apologized to her, it felt foreign coming out of my mouth.

Now it just feels necessary. I stole a glance at her again and she nodded her head, still looking out the window.

I took that as a hint and stopped talking to focus on the road ahead.

When we arrived back in Olympia, Devina told me how to get to her house and I carefully followed her directions.

"This is it." She pointed to a little white two-story house.

None of the lights were on, but I guess that makes sense since it was past midnight.

I slowed to a stop and unlocked the doors, my heart feeling like it was going to fly out of my chest. Devina turned to face me and smiled.

"Thank you, Zane. For letting me go." I nodded and looked away.

If I look at her anymore I won't want to let her go.

"I guess this is goodbye then." She opened the door and hopped out.

"Wait, Devina!" I jumped out of the car and jogged up to her.

"I put my number on your phone if anything happens call me, okay?

" She looked down at the phone in her hand and nodded.

"I'm serious. Call me." Part of me knew she wasn't going to call but a guy can still dream, right?

I pulled her into my chest and rested my chin on her head.

Everything about this felt right, the heat radiating off of her body, the tingles of electricity flowing between us, everything.

She's not short, maybe about 5'6. But everyone compared to my 6'5 frame is short.

She didn't respond to the embrace right away but eventually, she wrapped her arms around my waist and buried her head in my chest. "Goodbye, Dev.

" I kissed her forehead and pulled away.

"Goodbye Zane." She tried to smile and turned around to walk inside, leaving me all alone in her driveway. I took a deep breath, got in my car, and drove away.
