Chapter 64 #3
“Oh, my gosh, Romeo, am I going to have to bail you out of Parisian jail or something?”
“Versailles is not in Paris, so no.”
“French jail, then?”
“I don’t think so.” He laughs. “Hopefully not.”
“Oh, I wish I was there with you. I would love to see you strutting your stuff in the gardens.”
“I know. I would love for you to see me do it, too. By the way, bitch, send me a photograph of your hotty boss tomorrow.”
“I’m not a bitch, and I’m not sending you a photograph.”
“Please! I’ve got to see the man that has made you take a job for the first time in your life.”
“Fine, I’ll send you a photo.” I let out a deep sigh, “Anyway, I should probably get off the phone now because long-distance calls are still expensive, and we’re chatting on…”
“What’s that, bitch? This is free.”
“True.” I giggle. “But I need to get ready for tomorrow.”
“Okay. Good luck. Break a leg.”
“I’m not acting, you know. I don’t need to break a leg.”
“True,” he says. “Have fun and tell me all about it.”
“I will.”
“Please send me a photo tomorrow.”
“I’ll try.”
“Love you, sis.”
“Love you, bro,” I say and hang up. I look around the empty apartment and wonder what Skye’s doing.
I miss having her here. I miss having dinners with her and talking about what movie we want to watch.
I stare at my text messages to see if I’ve heard anything from her, but I haven’t.
I frown when I see I have a missed call from Liam.
“Oh, my gosh, what does that jackass want now?” I say. I ponder whether or not to call him back. I’m about to turn my phone off when the phone starts ringing again. It’s Liam. “What do you want?” I snap into the phone.
“Nice to hear your voice, as well.”
“It’s not nice to hear your voice. I was just about to get to bed because I have to wake up so early to be in the office tomorrow.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” he says, chuckling.
“Excuse me?”
“I like to hear that you’re going to bed because you’re thinking about me and…”
“That’s not what I said. I’m totally not thinking about you.”
“Sure you’re not. You’re not about to get into bed naked and…”
“Excuse me? That’s extremely unprofessional talk.”
“Did I say that…”
“Liam?”
“Yes, Elisabetta?”
“Why are you calling me?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why are you calling me? It’s ten p.m. at night. I’m about to go to bed. I’m going to see you tomorrow morning for the first day at work, and…”
“I was actually calling to see if you really wanted this job.”
“Excuse me?”
“I didn’t stutter, but I will repeat myself. I was calling to see if you really wanted this job.”
“What do you mean, if I really wanted this job?”
“I mean, we both know you don’t need it, and we both know that most people believe you won’t make a great assistant. I’m just really not sure why.”
“I think you are sure, Liam.”
“Excuse me?” he says.
“I think, when you called me tonight, you didn’t call me wanting to talk about the job. I think, when you called me tonight, you probably had a request.”
“A request?” he says.
“Did I stutter?” I say, and he bursts out laughing.
“I see you like to give as good as you get.”
“Mm, that’s not actually true,” I say softly.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I like to receive. I don’t really like to give that much.”
He pauses. “Did you insinuate what I think you were just insinuating?”
“I mean, if you didn’t understand, let me be very clear. I like for a man to go down on me,” I say softly, “but I don’t love going down on a man.”
“Was that you asking me to?”
“That’s not me asking you to anything,” I say quickly. “I just think you should know that. We both know that you’re going to continue with the sexual innuendo and try and frighten me or make me feel nervous or put me off balance, but that’s not who I am.”
“What do you mean, that’s not who you are?”
“I’m not some scared little girl. I’m a woman, and I’m very confident in my sexuality. I’m very confident in my body and what I want and who I want to be with, and if I want to be with you, you’ll know it. I don’t play games.”
“I see,” he says. There’s a pause. I can hear my own heart racing as I wait for him to speak next. “You’re saying that if you wanted me, you would just let me know.”
“That’s exactly what I’m saying.”
“Elisabetta Franco, do you want me?”
I pause for five seconds, and then I speak softly.
“Maybe a little bit, but you see, the thrill of the chase isn’t there because I already know I could have you, Liam Gallagher.
I already know that you probably woke up rock-hard this morning, thinking about me.
You’re going to go to bed, and you’re going to have a shower tonight, and you’re going to jack off in the shower thinking about me because you want me way more than I want you.
I want a guy that’s not that desperate. You know what I mean? ”
He bursts out laughing then. “You’re cocky, eh?”
“I’m not cocky. I just speak the truth. I think we both know it’s the truth, don’t you?”
“One thing you don’t know is that I just got out of the shower. I just finished jacking off, and it was to you, so you got some of it right.”
