GRAHAM

“Idon’t see why you don’t like my idea for a ring,” Spencer complains during dinner. “Maximalist is in right now.”

“It looks like a door hinge.” Aaron frowns.

“Like you have good taste.” Spencer scoffs.

“My house is being featured in Architectural Digest,” Aaron retorts.

Dani said she was working late tonight. I’d call Carl Svensson and complain, but I had this dinner scheduled with my brothers to plan the proposal.

“The ring is not the most important part of this proposal,” Grayson tells me.

“You proposed at fucking Disney World—you’re not the authority on the subject,” Spencer tells him.

“Lexi had no complaints,” Grayson argues.

“You could have surfed in on a mechanical alligator in flip-flops and that onesie thong from Borat, and she would have reacted the exact same way.”

“Dude, I got a photo of Grayson with Mickey-Mouse ears, so I’m happy.”

“Got a black eye for your troubles.”

“But it was worth it.”

My phone goes off.

“No phones at the table.” Grayson glares at me.

“It’s Dani. Calm the hell down.”

Dani’s sobbing when I answer.

I freeze.

“Dani, Dani!” I shout over her crying.

“Oh shit—what’s happening?” Finn asks.

“Lulu’s been kidnapped!” Dani cries.

Everything inside me goes still.

“What?”

“She took her. Victoria took her. She said it’s part of the divorce. She just… just—”

“Who?”

My chair scrapes back.

“The VP. She said her ex wants the dog, and the lawyer says she has to give it back.”

My brothers are staring at me now.

“She took my dog,” Dani cries, voice breaking. “I’m never going to see Lulu again!”

I feel myself go cold.

“Over my dead body.”
