25. Farmer Paul Discusses It All

Chapter twenty-five

Farmer Paul Discusses It All

Paul

Now that the farm was sold, I wasn’t interested in spending all my time working it.

I was too sore at Dad to ask him the protocol at this point, so I ignored my chores and went to the barn with my journal, my phone, and a notebook.

There had to be something I could do with my time that would bring in a decent income.

I’d spent more time online lately, seeing influencers who said they were working a few hours a day and getting thousands of dollars a month.

If they could figure out how to do it, then I could, too.

After an hour of research, watching influencers and how they said they did things, my brain hurt.

There was so much information out there that I was overwhelmed.

So, on the way to check in on what the counselor lady said today, I watched a video on how writing about certain topics could become an income source.

I hardly thought of myself as an influencer, but I did know farming.

While I wasn’t someone who was very good at expressing myself in writing for journaling purposes, when it came to talking about farming tasks, opinions on things about farming from breeding animals to hybrid seed, and knowing what’s needed in farming versus what would be a luxury, I certainly had opinions.

Was that something others wanted to hear?

The first step was setting up a profile on social media. While Maggie was one who could take my photo better than I could, I wasn’t going to burden her with it. She was busy worrying about her mom and I didn’t even know if this would turn into anything, so I tried a few selfies.

Awful.

“Whatcha doing?” Rob asked, coming into the barn. “Aren’t you coming to help?”

“Nope,” I said, hiding what I was doing when I wondered something. “Hey, I’m trying to get a profile picture for a social media account. Know anything about that?”

Rob tilted his head. “Um, yeah. Wait, you want to go online? For something other than stalking Maggie?”

I scowled at him. “I don’t stalk Maggie.”

“Sure,” he said, rolling his eyes. “Here, give me the phone. I can help.”

Watching as he tapped on a few buttons to change the settings for a better picture, he took a close-up and took one of me from the waist up.

“These look pretty good,” he said, handing the phone back to me. “Use either of these.”

When I looked at them, I almost looked approachable. “Wow, you’re really good at that.”

Rob beamed. “Thanks. Let me know if you need anything else.”

“Appreciate that, and your discretion,” I said, giving him a stern look.

With a twisting motion in front of his lips, he nodded.

Once I decided on a name for myself, Farmer Paul, and finished setting up my profile, I watched a few other videos from other creators about where to post a blog.

After checking out a few platforms, I decided on one and realized there would be a lot of writing to do.

In the first few minutes, I created a free account, calling it Farmer Paul Discusses It All, and added two articles to it from what I’d journaled about the other day. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.

By the time I checked my watch again, I had about an hour before I needed to leave to meet Maggie.

I’d made some progress, maybe, depending on how well-received it was, which felt like a good first step.

When I went back to social media, putting in some links to my articles, I already had some comments on my profile picture.

A few women commented on how I looked, apparently pleased with my mysterious eyes and bulging biceps.

Some of the things a few of them said were inappropriate, which wasn’t what I was going for, but if it would help me create a career, I’d just ignore it.
