Chapter 15 #7

“2.0!” he repeated, laughing. “I was already smart, Lucy, but now I’m like a mega mind, not like the cartoon character, an actual mega mind! I can absorb and store information like never before. I feel like I know everything, sometimes it’s overwhelming, but Mandy’s been helping me stay grounded.”

Lucy tilted her head, amused and a little bewildered. “So, I gave your brain a boost too?”

He nodded proudly. “If it’s easier for you to understand… yes.”

Lucy laughed softly. “Oh my God.” Then her face shifted as everything else hit her, the fight, the loss, Mary. “Where’s Mary?”

The room fell quiet.

“She’s been in her room since that night,” Mandy said softly. “Refusing to see anyone.”

Lucy sighed. “Right. Then I’d better go talk to her.”

The walk to Mary’s quarters felt heavier than any battle Lucy had fought. She paused outside the door, taking a deep breath before knocking gently.

“Mary?”

No response.

She knocked again, louder this time. Still nothing.

“I’m coming in,” Lucy said finally, pushing the door open.

Mary sat by the window, her back straight, her silhouette etched in the grey light. She didn’t turn around when Lucy entered.

“Please,” Mary said softly. “I can’t see you. I can’t see anyone right now.”

Lucy ignored that and crossed the room, sitting quietly on the edge of the bed. “Mum,” she said gently. “It’s okay.”

Mary turned at last. Her eyes were red, her face streaked with tears. “No, it’s not okay, Lucy. I killed Barnaby. I’ve always protected you all… and I killed him.”

Lucy’s own eyes softened. “It wasn’t your fault, Mum. You saved us. Without you, we’d all be dead, and Barnaby is fine!”

Mary shook her head, tears spilling again. “You saw me, Lucy. You saw what I did. I ate them.” Her voice cracked on the last word, full of disgust.

Lucy bit her lip, then smiled faintly. “Have you seen the way Corey eats? What you did doesn’t even compare.”

Mary blinked and then, despite herself, she laughed. A small, fragile sound. “You’re impossible,” she murmured.

“Maybe,” Lucy said, smiling softly. “But you’re my mum, and I love you. Monster or not.”

Mary exhaled shakily, the tension easing from her shoulders. She turned to look out the window again. “You don’t even know what I am.”

Lucy frowned. “Then tell me.”

Mary hesitated. “I am… Cambion–Seraph.”

Lucy’s brows knitted together. “Aren't Nephilim and Seraphim the same thing?”

Mary smiled faintly, shaking her head. “No, darling. Not the same but connected. Nephilim are born from angels and mortals. Half divine, whilst Seraphim, on the other hand… they are pure angels.”

Lucy tilted her head. “So, we’re kind of related, in a way.”

“In a way,” Mary said softly. “You have the blood of angels and humans, creation’s balance. I have the fire of heaven and the darkness of hell my Cambion side destruction’s balance. Together, we are two sides of the same rebellion.”

Mary’s eyes shimmered. “Cambions, the children of demons and humans. I am both, Lucy. That’s why I exist in constant war with myself. The Seraph in me wants to save. The demon in me wants to consume.”

Lucy reached out and took her mother’s hand, feeling that familiar heat thrumming beneath her skin. Mary’s lip trembled. “You always do the right thing, even when you don’t mean to.”

Lucy smiled, brushing away a tear on Mary’s cheek. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

Mary chuckled softly. “No, it's not.”

They sat in silence for a moment, just breathing, just existing. The light outside had faded completely now, the world beyond their window cloaked in silver and shadow.

Mary turned to her, her voice quieter. “What you did for Barnaby, was amazing. It was as if you had the gift of the gods themselves.”

Lucy frowned. “So, what does that make me, if this was more than what my kind can do?”

Mary smiled. “Something new and I'm excited to see what you become.”

They sat together for a long time, neither speaking, until finally Lucy leaned her head on Mary’s shoulder.

“Get some rest, Mum,” she whispered. “You’ve punished yourself enough.”

As she stood to leave, Mary caught her wrist. “Lucy?”

“Yes?”

Mary’s eyes gleamed faintly gold in the dim light. “Thank you”

Lucy nodded.

She closed the door softly behind her, the sound of Mary’s quiet breathing the only thing left in the room.

Down the hall, Byron was waiting leaning against the wall with that patient, knowing look of his.

“Everything okay?” he asked.

Lucy exhaled. “She will be ok soon; we just need to give her time.”

Byron smiled faintly. “Like the time I gave you? Because I’ve been waiting two days for you to wake up, and I’ve got a lot of energy to burn off.”

Lucy smirked. “Is that so?”

He pushed off the wall, stepping closer until his breath was warm against her neck. “You have no idea.”

She laughed softly and brushed past him toward their room. “Then what are you waiting for?”

He followed, the door closing behind them.

Chapter 20

Corey came upstairs to knock on the love bird's door.

“Hey, you two, you do remember we have Sergeant Dick head downstairs locked up, we need to interrogate him.” Lucy jumped up slowly pulling her mouth from around Byron's dick, “give me a minute, I'll be down soon” she shouts to Corey, he huffed as he walked away.

“A minute” Byron huffed, “it's been two days baby, I need more of you.” she crawled up towards his face her breast hanging directly over his mouth.

“Kiss them” she said as she slipped his cock inside her tight wet pussy, he moaned with satisfaction.

He started to suck on her breast frantically and the more she moved up and down on his stiff, throbbing cock the deeper he sucked.

He moved one hand onto her arse and gripped onto it tightly.

“Let me fuck you now” he shouted as he put one hand around her throat and another on her waist. Pushing her upright, he had full control over her body, he didn't even change position, he fucked her in that same spot. “I’m going to cum so hard inside of you Lucy, are you ready to take it like a good little slut” Lucys legs opened wider, Byron was pleased, he fucked her harder so hard that when he came it caused her squirt all over his stomach.

“Let's not waste that he said, as he threw her on her back and started to suck on her clit like an animal, “Are you ready to cum in my mouth lucy?” “Yes” she screamed as she held his face tight against her and came so he could quench his thirst.

“Right. Let’s go.”

Lucy leapt off the bed, her bare feet hitting the floor with a soft thud.

Byron turned his head toward her, covering half his face with his hand as if embarrassed. “It’s so rude when you do that.”

“Do what?” Lucy asked, pulling her shirt over her head.

“When you just use me.” His tone was mock wounded. “Like I’m some kind of… toy.”

Lucy laughed. “Behave. Wasn’t it you who said a few nights ago, let me quote, ‘I’m always at your service, use me whenever and however you want?’”

Byron smirked. “I was flirting. Now get dressed, Corey’s waiting”

“I just said that” she added with a grin as he slipped into his jeans and pulled on a vest.

Byron jogged out of the room. “I’ll see you downstairs.”

Lucy followed a second later, hopping across the hallway while trying to pull her socks on.

Corey was already waiting in the main room, leaning against the table. For once, he wasn’t scowling, probably because Davina was perched on his lap, tracing little circles on his arm.

Lucy folded her arms. “Nice to see you two have a thriving social life.”

“As do you, no?” Corey muttered with a smug grin, then gestured toward the basement door. “He’s awake.”

They descended together. Benedict sat chained to the chair, his lip split.

Lucy stepped forward. “So, you’re the Lucent,” she said coolly. “Who are you?”

He refused to answer.

“What do you want?”

He refused to answer.

“Why are you killing people?” she pressed.

Benedict spat on the floor, “People?” His eyes burned. “You’re not people. You’re abominations.”

Byron tensed, but Lucy raised a hand to stop him. Her mind brushed both Byron’s and Corey’s.

Let me handle this.

“So why,” Lucy asked softly, “do you keep her alive?”

Benedict’s grin returned. “Ah… you know about her.” He leaned back in the chair. “She’s one of my best-kept secrets. I’ll be reunited with her soon enough.”

Lucy frowned. “What does that mean?”

“What do you think it means, girl?” he hissed. “My team will notice my silence soon enough. They’ll come looking.”

Corey stepped forward, arms folded. “Speaking of teams…” He nodded toward the corner, where a small screen flickered on the workbench. “We collected all your gear. Our in-house genius modified it to suit our needs.” He glanced at Lucy.

She caught on instantly. What do you want me to do? she asked silently.

Corey’s eyes gleamed. I need you to become him. Contact his people. Tell them you’re coming back.

Lucy smiled slowly.

Benedict tilted his head. “Why are you smiling, Lucy?”

Her eyes flared violet. Before he could blink, her skin shimmered, bones shifting, voice changing. In seconds, Benedict was sitting before him. Now speaking with his exact accent and tone, she responded “because I can, Benedict.”

His jaw dropped, right before Corey’s fist connected square with it. The real Benedict slumped sideways, unconscious.

Corey rolled his shoulders. “Let's do it, I think you have to push this button and then speak I guess.”

Lucy tapped the communicator on the table. “Come in, come in,” she said, mimicking him perfectly.

A crackle, then a voice replied: “Hello, Captain. Good to hear from you. How did it go?”

“It went… well,” Lucy answered carefully. “We’ll be making our way back soon. Our numbers have dwindled, but we have someone.”

“Understood, sir. We’ll prepare for your arrival.”

The line went dead.

Lucy turned to the others. “He’s our way in, our way to get to Gloriana, Michael will go as me, and I will go as Benedit.”

Corey rubbed his temple. “Are you sure about this? We could just—” He gestured vaguely. “Leave. Abandon the mansion, the business, disappear into the woods.”

Lucy shook her head. “No. This is what we must do. We need to find more allies. Rescue Gloriana. And then” her voice hardened, “we take down the Lucent so we can finally live happily ever fucking after.”

Corey exhaled, a crooked grin tugging at his mouth. “Well, that’s that, then.”

He turned to Ethan. “Send out the feelers. See who answers.”

The group stood there for a moment, battered but unbroken. Somewhere above, the wind shifted, and the first light of dawn crept through the window.

The battle wasn’t over it was just paused.

And Lucy Morgan was ready for whatever came next.
