Chapter 19. Dust To Dust

DUST TO DUST

SAWDUST

As much as Sawdust adored Whitney, he often found her behavior incomprehensible. Take now, for instance. As he watched from atop his cat tree, she stood in the front yard banging her boots together, sending up a cloud of dust and dropping chunks of dried mud to the grass.

Odd.

He wasn’t sure why humans felt the need to put something over their feet.

He certainly didn’t. And when his feet were dirty, he simply licked them clean, paying particular attention to the spaces between his toes.

He hadn’t once seen Whitney or Collin lick their toes.

He’d seen them lick their fingers on occasion, but usually only when there was food on them.

Yes, humans were filthy animals, but they made up for it by giving him treats, and pats, and scratches at the sweet spot at the base of his tail.

He wouldn’t mind a treat right now, truth be told.

But when Whitney climbed into her SUV, he knew he’d have to wait.

Sigh. Might as well take a nap.

He lowered himself down, lay his chin on his paws, and closed his eyes.
