Chapter 30 #2
“That was fucking hot. Even better than I remembered you looking coming all over my hand.”
I make a noise in the back of my throat.
This dirty side of him turns me on. It’s nothing I’ve ever come across before, something I didn’t think I’d like but man, oh man, have I been missing out.
He brings the hand he just used to get me off up to his face and with painfully slow moves, licks his finger clean.
I should be used to his wild ways, but my eyes widen anyway and I bury my face into his chest still holding on.
“Stay here with me,” he tilts my face back up to him. “I want to memorize this look. Right here. Right now. I’ve been waiting a long time to see it.”
“How long?”
“Senior prom, high school,” he answers with ease.
The confession makes my heart skip.
“What?”
He smiles. “You heard me.” He brushes my cheek. “I’ve been dreaming of you for a very long time.”
“Jackson...” I’m confused. I didn’t go to his senior prom. I was only a freshman. Of course, he was at our house with my brother and their dates.
I wanted it to be me though.
He straightens my skirt as my mind is whirling. He kisses me one more time softly and we join hands and open the door, down the hall heading back outside.
“Hey kids, what’s going on!” Britt just about screams as she comes around the corner with yup, Bobby and Billy. I try to pull away, so we won’t get caught but Jackson just holds on tighter. I guess it’s okay to get caught since they think we’re together anyway.
“Why are you pulling away from me?” Jackson says softly, “This is allowed.” His eyes twinkle and that killer smile of his and those sexy dimples shows on his face.
I furiously pat down my hair afraid everyone will know what we were just doing.
“They just caught me by surprise.” He reluctantly lets me go this time.
Everyone knows we’re playing a part, but we also agreed we wouldn’t be all PDA in front of them.
Why would we be if it was fake? That’s what everyone thinks anyway.
“Adam is on his way with pizza and Tom will be here after his shift,” Billy says, while he grabs a beer from the fridge and throws himself down on my couch. “So, what’s new with the lovebirds?” He’s smiling a Cheshire grin and has a quirk to his brow.
Britt and I are circled around my island, pouring two glasses of wine that she took from the fridge. Bobby flops next to Billy but Jackson is still hanging near me in the kitchen. I roll my eyes at Billy’s question.
“What? I thought maybe I missed a press release somewhere.”
“About what?”
He shrugs. “I picked up on a little something at the homecoming game. Figured the good town of Christmas saw it too and wanted to spread some good news.” He’s acting like the cat who caught the mouse. I don’t miss the death glare Britt aims at him.
Jackson says, “And just what do you think you saw at the game? Enlighten me, since, you know, I was busy coaching on the field.”
Billy slowly kicks up his feet onto my end table taking another draw from his beer. He puts on a thinking face. “Hmm, what was it again? Was it rumors of another state championship? No that wasn’t it,” he says and shakes his head.
I raise an eyebrow while Bobby tries to suppress a laugh.
“Maybe it was talk of Chess using whips and chains to keep you in line and that’s how she’s improving your reputation.
” He winks at me, and I throw the bottle cap he left on the island at him.
He catches it easily and laughs. “No that’s not it, we all know you have no choice but to behave for Chessy.
Plus, I know you like that kinky shit, don’t you baby girl? ”
Jackson barks out a laugh.
“Billy!” I exclaim “Can you ever be serious? God, you guys never grow up. And why are you calling me that?” I side eye Jackson.
He sits up now, quickly throwing his legs back to the ground and leans forward on his knees. “I know!” He yells and points at Jackson. “You defiled my sister!”
“William John!” I chastise him, using his full name “Why would you—”
“Now, now Chessy, I’m not mad. We all know what the term of endearment ‘baby girl’ means, and why a man uses it.
Your reaction to those words gave yourself away.
” He leans back on the couch once again placing his crossed legs on the table in front of him.
“I knew it was only a matter of time. Jackson could never fake anything when you were around. So, I knew this little plan of his was a ticking time bomb... or…” he drifts off.
I’m throwing daggers at Britt but she won’t look at me.
“Or…?” Jackson says.
“Or…” Billy draws it out. “This was your plan all along. Get my sister on your side, play on her heartstrings to help you, then slide in and seal the deal. Literally,” he winks.
“I must say Gage, it’s quite clever, even for you,” he laughs.
“I just didn’t know you had a death wish. ” He grows serious and raises a brow.
“Death wish?”
“Yup,” he pops the p. “Adam is not going to be happy,” he tsks and takes another sip of his beer.
Everyone is quiet. Jesus, Billy is oblivious to anything but the women surrounding him, so if he noticed something, then I’m sure Adam did, too.
“The only thing that’s saving you is that Adam is so strung out on Chelsea right now, he’s in his own head.
He’s not focused and you two are not on his radar.
Though I don’t think that will last for long, right Jackie-boy?
He’s always had some kind of weird sixth sense about you and our dear little sister. ”
Britt speaks up. “So, what if there is something going on? They’re both adults and if they want to be together, that’s on them. Adam can’t control what they do. I for one think it’s a great idea.”
“You’re absolutely right Britt. And I like this scenario too. But the only thing wrong with that is that Adam believes he’s in charge. Alpha Asshole Adam, right? He believes he’s the know-it-all and if he didn’t figure this out first or is blindsided, it’s not going to be good.”
I still can’t say anything. I feel all eyes on me.
Billy is right. I have always gone to Adam with everything.
And if I didn’t, he still found out and tried to make it right.
It’s what he was trying to do just last week wasn’t it?
When we talked in my kitchen before the homecoming game.
How he warned me he knew Jackson so well and didn’t want anyone to get hurt.
If our new reality is in fact fake, looks like I won’t be alone in getting hurt. Adam will be right next to me.
