Chapter 3

Chapter Three

Damien

I climbed into the back of the cab and took it to the office. When the driver pulled up to the building, I reached into my pocket and noticed my wallet wasn’t there.

“What the fuck?” I spoke in a panic.

Reaching into my coat pocket, I pulled out the credit card I had stuck with my license and paid the cab driver.

Great. This was just great. What the fuck else was going to go wrong today?

I angrily grabbed my bag, exited the cab, and walked into the building.

I was fuming. My money, credit cards, expense receipts, and more were in that wallet.

Taking the elevator up to the fifth floor, I stormed out and into my office.

“Joslyn,” I yelled. “Get in here!”

“Yes, Mr. Prescott?” she nervously asked.

“I need you to call the airport and see if anyone turned in my wallet. If not, I need you to cancel all my credit cards.” “You lost your wallet?” “I think it might have fallen out of my pocket on the plane. Call them now!” “Yes, sir.”

Just as Joslyn was walking out, Scott walked in.

“Welcome back to the Big Apple.” He grinned, and I snarled.

“What was that for? Are you still pissed off about Adam?”

“That was the trip from hell. First off, I got stuck next to this annoying beautiful woman.”

“I can see how that can be a problem.” He rolled his eyes.

“It was a problem. She was fucking nuts. I feel sorry for her boyfriend if she has one. If she doesn’t, I can see why. And I lost my wallet. I think I left it on the plane.”

“Oh shit. That’s not cool, Damien.”

“Joslyn is calling the airport to see if anyone turned it in. But it’s highly unlikely. Even if they did, I’m sure they stole all the cash I had in it. You know that woman went to Tennessee to visit Graceland and The Grand Ole Opry.”

“So? A lot of people do that,” he said.

“It’s just weird. And then the lady across the aisle from her gave her some necklace she had made. She doesn’t even know her. Do you believe she had the nerve to tell me that money shouldn’t be the only important thing in life? And she said I was a workaholic who let my work consume me.”

“Well, you are a workaholic and do nothing but work 24/7.”

“And? What’s your point?”

“I’m just saying. By the way, you sure are getting all worked up over this woman. Why?”

“I am not. I’m just saying she was annoying and wouldn’t stop talking to me. I asked her for one favor, which was all downhill from there.”

“What favor was that?” He smiled.

“The line at the coffee shop was too long, so I asked her if I could cut in front of her because I was in a hurry.”

“You were in a hurry to sit and wait for your delayed flight?” He laughed.

“The point is I didn’t have the patience to stand in line. Anyway, she let me and then had the nerve to say that I should have bought her coffee since she let me cut in front of her.”

“That actually would have been a nice thing to do.”

“Get out of here, Scott.”

“No. This woman really affected you, and I want to know why.”

“Because everywhere I turned, there she was. It was so damn annoying. It was bad enough that I had to deal with her in the airport, then come to find out she had the seat right next to me. The airline upgraded her for free. Do you believe that? Just my luck. Now my wallet is missing.”

“And don’t forget that you had to fire Adam.”

“Yeah. That too.”

He stood there and narrowed his eye at me for a moment.

“Mr. Prescott?” Joslyn popped her head through the door. “The airport said no one has turned in a wallet.”

“Of course not. They’re probably too busy using all my credit cards!” I shouted. “Cancel them now!”
