Chapter 6

I look at the girl sitting across from me—yes, still a girl—and I'm transported back to that night at the club.

The blonde hair, the shape of her mouth...

I shake my head, thinking I must be crazy.

She's only eighteen. How could she have danced like that?

I snap back to the present and start the interview.

“Nice to meet you, Miss Brooks. I'm Alexander! I'm looking for an assistant to help me with meetings, manage my schedule, and handle contracts. I reviewed your grades and attendance record—impressive. You're the top student in the entire program.”

“Yes, I'm very dedicated to my studies. It's the career I love most, so I always give it my all.”

“Tell me a little about yourself. Where do you live, and who do you live with? Just so I can get to know you better.”

“I live in an apartment with my nine-year-old sister. It's just the two of us.”

“And your parents? Where are they?”

I see her clench her hands in her lap, and finally she answers:

“I don't have a father. And my mother passed away from cancer a few months ago.”

Her expression changes completely. I notice sadness in her gaze, and her eyes well up. I know what it's like to lose your parents. I feel bad for her—she and her sister are so young.

“I'm so sorry! I lost mine too—I know how hard it is. But how do you manage the bills? Do you work?”

“I have a scholarship here at the university, and I work at a coffee shop in the afternoons. It's enough to cover the bills.”

“Forgive the personal questions, but I need to know who I'm hiring. I want someone I can trust.”

“You can rest assured I'll give it my all. If I'm hired, of course.”

“I hope so! Thank you for your time. I'll hold onto your résumé and test. I'll be in touch as soon as possible to let you know my decision.”

“Thank you, sir, for the opportunity to interview for this position. And if you choose me, rest assured—I'll do everything in my power to be an excellent assistant.”

She stands up and leaves, and I can't take my eyes off her.

Something about this girl captivated me in a pure, innocent way.

Her natural beauty and the serenity she radiates left me speechless.

I felt an intense attraction, different from anything I've ever experienced.

Maybe it's because she reminds me of the woman from the club, who still occupies my thoughts, but there's a strange connection between us.

I need to be rational. She's just a girl, and I can't let myself get carried away.

I'm not the type of man who takes advantage of someone like her.

Besides, I promised Jullian I'd behave. Chloe is off-limits.

It's strange to feel this way, especially considering I'm known as the biggest player in London.

My bachelor life is wild—always a different woman every night.

But this time, something feels different.

But after talking to her, I had an unexpectedly good feeling. And for the first time, I didn't feel the urge to throw her on the desk and fuck her right there.

The next candidate comes in. We talk, I ask some questions, and then I dismiss her. I've already made my choice. I'll call her later to discuss the start date and salary. I hope she accepts.

“So, did you find an intern at the university I recommended?” Jullian asks when he calls.

“Yes. She's very young, but she has excellent grades and a flawless academic record. So I'm going to hire her.”

“I hope you don't take away the girl's innocence.”

“She captivated me in a different way. It feels like I've known her for years. It's strange—I've never felt this way before.”

“This whole saint act of yours doesn't fool me. I know you too well, Alex, and I know you'll try something with the girl.”

“This time will be different, Jullian. I promise!”

“I hope you keep that promise. Well, I have to get to work—my shift goes until nine tonight.”

“See you later.”

I say goodbye to my friend and think about what I just said, surprising myself by making a promise I can barely keep. I thank the university director for his help and head out. I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I get to my office and review the résumés, tests, and information on the two students again. Since I've already made my decision, I pick up my phone and make the call. She answers on the fourth ring.

“Hello, who's this?”

“Miss Brooks, this is Alexander Petrov. We had an interview today. I'm pleased to tell you that you've been selected for the assistant position. I'm calling to discuss the details and arrange your start date. Would you be available to start next Monday?”

I tell her the schedule and salary. I can sense she's thrilled on the other end of the line. I'm guessing the salary is what excited her most.

“I just need to give notice at my current job, sir, but that won't be a problem. If you'd like, I can start tomorrow.”

“Excellent. I'll see you then.”

I end the call without waiting for a response. Tomorrow I'll have new company in my office. A half-smile escapes my lips, but I make it disappear in seconds. She's not for you, Alexander. She's only eighteen, so keep your dick in your pants and those not-so-normal thoughts to yourself.

I’ll admit, it’s going to be torture, because I liked her.

The way she talks, her posture, and especially how responsible she is at such a young age.

But I need to behave myself. Starting tomorrow, I’ll get to know her even better, and as much as I admire her, our relationship will be strictly professional.

With that in mind, I grab my suit jacket, say goodbye to Mrs. Olívia, and head out.

Tomorrow’s a new day, and I’ll have plenty of work to hand off to my new assistant.
