Chapter 14 You’re Not Playing Fair
YOU'RE NOT PLAYING FAIR
Isla
The look of lust in his eyes turned me into a puddle of desire in my seat. When I turned to face Joey, he smiled at me. And dammit if that didn’t make me feel like the worst nanny in the world.
“I think he’s ready for a bath.” Declan glanced down at his watch.
“I’m sorry, what?” I had a very vivid image of Declan in a bath, all wet and shiny.
“Joey.” He smirked.
My ears burned hot. He knew exactly what I was thinking. “I knew that.”
“Whatever you were thinking.” He leaned forward. “Yes.”
I laughed aloud. “You’re impossible.” Irresistible was another word for him. Unattainable. He wasn’t mine to keep.
“Right now. I’ll do and say anything to get you out of that dress again.” His chest expanded as he inhaled deeply. After a beat, he turned to Joey, who kept looking at us like he was part of the conversation.
“I got him.” I rose to my feet and picked him up from his highchair. His sticky fingers gripped my arm instinctively, and that was all I needed to diffuse the desire burning at my core.
“I can help you.”
“No.” My voice went up a few octaves. No way I could handle watching Declan play the single dad, possibly shirtless, possibly all wet. “No help needed.”
“Thanks. I have a few things I have to knock out for work.” He followed me down the hallway and then went into his room. “I’ll come say good night.”
“Oh, um.” My cheeks burned.
“When he’s ready.”
“Yeah, of course.” I shut the door behind me and released a breath.
Sure, the worst had already happened. I had sex with my unavailable boss.
But something told me this was just the tip of the iceberg.
If I kept going down this path with him, I knew my heart would be broken.
Declan’s life was in the UK. Mine was here.
And it seemed the universe had someone else planned for him—Harper. I pressed my lips to Joey’s head.
Sooner or later, Harper had to come back and see him.
Or even want him back. Where would that leave me then?
What if she did want a marriage with her son’s dad?
Honestly, who wouldn’t want to marry Declan?
And he was open to the idea. I couldn’t get in the way of that.
Even if he had said he wanted me to spend the night, come morning, he would leave, and things would go back to the way they were—the way they should be.
“How about a bath to clean those sticky paws?” I wiggled Joey in my arms.
He rewarded me with a big belly laugh. And then it hit me like a bucket of iced water, after tonight, I wouldn’t have Joey, either. Sure, I’d see him a time or two at the office if Declan brought him over. But in a few months’ time, when they returned to the UK, Joey would be out of my life, too.
I took my time with his bath. This had been our routine since the first day I was here. I was grateful for the time I got to spend with Joey. For three weeks, I had a taste of what motherhood would be like.
“You’re going to love London. You’re better off anyway. I don’t think Declan’s mom would’ve liked a grandson that spoke with a Brooklyn accent.” I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around him.
When I went to put on his little pajama top, he stuck one arm out to help me. “Of course, you already know how tops work. You got your daddy’s super smarty genes.” I kissed his nose and then his cheek. “Jesus, I’m gonna miss you. I didn’t see that one coming.”
We sat on my bed for a few minutes while Joey rolled around, playing with his feet, the pillows, and even my hair.
My heart squeezed into a tight ball. Truth be told, I was never super crazy about kids.
Sure, I figured at one point, kids would be part of settling down.
But now that the choice was no longer there, I really wanted a baby.
“Is it bedtime?” I laid down next to him.
As soon as I did, Declan rapped on the door softly then poked his head in. “Are you guys decent?”
“Yeah, he’s ready.” I climbed out of bed before he reached it. Having Declan in my room had my heart drumming like crazy again. “You got him? I gotta change my clothes.” I pointed at my wet top.
“Go on.” He gestured toward the door.
I grabbed my pajamas and headed out. While in the bathroom, I took a quick shower.
Not a cold one because that wasn’t my thing, but cool enough to clear my head and get all those dirty thoughts out of my head.
I donned my pajamas and went back to my room.
Before I reached the door, Declan called for me from the living room.
“He’s out. Come here, I want to show something.”
I tapped my toes on the hardwood floors, hand on the doorknob. Spending any more time with Declan couldn’t be good for my health.
“It’s work related.”
“I knew that.” I turned around and padded over to him.
He had his computer propped on his lap, legs out long in front of him. I sat on the couch next to him, tucking my ankles under my butt. “What did you want to show me?”
“Look at this.” He turned his screen to face me. “I found the worm the hackers used to get into Nicolas’s system.”
“I heard it got in through several email accounts, not just one entry point.” I inched closer to him, feeling less nervous about being alone with him.
“I know. We need to address that issue with his staff.”
The code was easy to read, and it reminded me of something I had seen online on Tumbler. “Wait. I’ve seen this code before.”
“You’re good.” He smiled at me. “Yeah, Nicolas got hacked with an open code virus. There’s nothing special about it.”
“Wow, that’s embarrassing.”
“Security was seriously lacking. This could have been so much worse. He got lucky.” He shut his laptop and set it on the coffee table.
His gaze found mine as he reached behind him and pulled his T-shirt off. I knew by now that Shirtless Declan was like kryptonite to me.
“You’re not playing fair.”
“No one ever does.” He pointed at my cleavage. “Just trying to level off the playing field here.”
“Why?” I knew why, but I wanted him to say it—to say he wanted me. The desire in his eyes was such a rush and huge turn on.
“Isn’t it obvious?” He picked me up by the waist and pulled me toward him until he had me straddling his hips. His hands slid up my thighs and then my ass. “Earlier when you said you’d stay, I assumed you’d spend the night in my bed.”
“Do you think that’s a good idea?” I brushed my lips to his, forgetting all the reasons why sleeping with my boss again was a bad idea all around.
“Not at all.” He cupped my cheek and brought my lips down to meet his. He kissed me hard and desperately. “But that was ten minutes ago when you weren’t in the room. When your perfume wasn’t fogging my brain. I want you.”
I nodded. Even though he hadn’t asked me a question. He bent and picked me off his lap just enough so he could capture my nipple with his mouth. With the fabric in the way, his sucking was more of a tease then a release. I pulled away and helped him get my top off.
“So not fair.” His gaze shifted from one breast to the other. “You’re so beautiful.”
He kneaded one mound, while his other hand slid into my shorts.
Desire pooled between my legs. When he slid one finger inside, I arched my back, pushing my hips forward until he reached my sensitive spot.
His tongue teased my aching bud, while his thumb played with my clit mimicking the same motion—up and down and then side to side.
He was gentle and rough and slow and fast.
Every stroke was in synch as he worked my pussy and my nipples in tandem. A spark coiled deep inside me and spread down to my toes in a rush of heat and hot delirium. And then, it happened like before. I came hard on his palm, pressing my tits into his face.
“Declan.”
“I’m right here, love.”
He reached for his pants and unbuckled his belt.
Still high on the adrenaline from my orgasm and with clumsy fingers, I helped him free his erection.
It sprung out, and a new surge of desire washed over me.
I wanted him to fill me up again. I wanted to come again.
Lifting my hips a few inches, I moved my flimsy shorts and underwear out of the way then guided him to my entrance.
He hissed in my ear as he slowly glided his big cock all the way until he reached my sensitive spot. “Jesus, so you feel so good.” Both his arms wrapped around me in a tight bear hug. “Shit. Wait. Condom.”
“I want this. You don’t have to worry about babies with me.”
I left it at that. This wasn’t the time to feel sorry for me. My condition at least allowed me this much. I had never done it without a condom, and omigod, Declan felt amazing. His hot shaft pulsated waves of pleasure through me. I didn’t want him to stop.
“Are you sure, Isla?” He panted a breath, then kissed me hard, holding the back of my head. “I get tested often…negative every time. I promise.”
His hips rocked to meet mine, and I melted into him. Even as our brains tried to work out if this was a good idea or not, our bodies had already decided for us. I had decided that if this was our only night, I wanted it to be unforgettable.
“I trust you.”
My vision got blurry, my mind fussy as the world slowed down around me.
All I felt in the moment was Declan’s thick cock filling me, sliding in and out.
He gripped my hips but still let me set the pace.
After several beats, the now familiar spark at my core ignited, hovering just over my G-spot where Declan’s languid strokes worked to drive me crazy.
The sensation lingered but refused to grow.
“Make me come,” I mumbled, running my fingernails over his sweaty back.
“Isla, you’re killing me.” He wedged his hands under my butt and lowered me onto the couch.
The weight of his body, the thrill of having him on top of me like that inched me closer to the edge.
When he plunged deeper, once and then again, the tiny flame inside me grew hotter and bigger, and then there was no controlling it.
It spiraled out, shooting waves of ecstasy from my pussy and up into my chest. I cried out Declan’s name as he continued to thrust and ride me hard.
The man was a force of nature. I had never experienced this much passion with anyone before. He didn’t hold back at all.
“Fuck.” He tensed on top me, his cock hard as steel.
I didn’t think it would be possible, but he got even harder.
His release was as fierce as his love making.
The rock of his hips didn’t stop until every bit of both our climaxes was spent, until the chaotic thumping in his chest subsided and I could feel my heart beating again.
When unleashed, Declan was like a black hole absorbing everything around him, sound and light.
Now that it was over, I wasn’t sure if I had come twice or if the second time had been all him.
“Are you even real?” I let my body fall heavy on the cushions.
“You drive me crazy with desire.” He collapsed on top me—his slick body heavy on mine. “Even now, I still want you. What do I do with that?” He bent down and pressed his forehead to my breasts while laboring to catch his breath.
That was the million-dollar question of the night. What should we do with this feeling, this desire? Because at this point, I was one hundred percent sure that what Declan and I had was something big—cosmic big, synchronicity big.
We lay together for a several minutes. When I cooled down and the sweat began to feel uncomfortable, I wiggled to get away from him.
He held me tight and kept me in place, meeting my gaze.
After a couple of beats, he got up and swooped me into his arms. He didn’t say a word as he carried me into his bedroom and placed me gently in his bed.
A part of me knew why. He didn’t want to say good-bye, same as me. I scooted over and turned on my side. He climbed on the bed and wrapped his body tight around mine.
Within seconds, his breathing became shallow. I focused on it and let it lull me to sleep while my tears pelted softly on the pillow. Come morning, my time with Declan would be over.
Hours later, the sun shone bright through the window.
I woke with a startle in the same position I was before I fell asleep, except Declan was gone.
I didn’t need to turn around to feel the big empty and cold space behind me.
Such a contrast to what it had been last night when his body heat kept the bed warm for me.
I listened for sounds in the apartment, but it was quiet.
No Declan making coffee in the kitchen or Joey making tiny noises in his crib.
I squeezed my eyes shut. The moisture there scurried down my temple and onto the sheets. How was I going to get up and face the day without Declan and Joey? The hollow space in my chest threatened to crush my lungs. I shifted my weight and sat up.
My breath hitched at the sight of Declan, sitting on the leather club chair near the window.
“You’re still here.”
“I couldn’t leave.”
“Were you watching me sleep?” I smile, and the heavy feeling in my belly lifted.
“You were the subject of my meditation this morning.” A sexy half-smile pulled at his lips.
I melted right then and there while my clit throbbed. With that accent and his deep voice, he could’ve told me he spent all morning planning my death, and I would still let him sex me up again.
“What happens now?” My voice was barely above a whisper.
“Indeed.”
