Chapter 55 #2

“Did you ever let me go when I begged you to? When I look up at you crying because I was in so much pain and knew you were going to kill me, did you ever let me go?” My resolve is rigid and unmoving.

Mist sobs hard, “No… No, we didn’t, and I’m so fucking sorry.”

I huff a breath and close my eyes. “It’s too late for that,” I whisper before I lift my hand and place it on her chest. Using her own powers, I shoot a bolt of lightning into her chest to wrap around her heart and squeeze tight, shocking it.

Her eyes widen for a second before her body goes ramrod straight and stiff, she begins to shake violently, and foam starts to pour from her mouth.

I can hear her choking on it with each breath she struggles to take, her eyes lock with mine, and for a split second, I can see the regret she has deep in them.

She shudders and then falls limp against me.

It doesn’t take long for her heart to stop beating.

I drop her dead body to the floor; I can hear Jade screaming in horror just as Mist turns to a dust pile.

I took her powers, but she is still a daemon.

Turning, I walk over to Jade; she has tears running down her cheeks. “I will find a way to come back from the dead and kill you, I swear to all the gods in hell and heaven that I will,” she spits at me, but it misses.

I watch her for a moment, Lexus and I both enjoying the powers that we have running through us.

No one is going to be killing me or hurting anyone I love ever again.

Jade has the power of fire; I don’t need hers as mine is much greater.

“Too many people get away with doing bad things with no consequences,” I say as I release my hold on her.

She falls to the floor and looks up at me.

“I’m here to make sure dues are paid. In full,” my voice has a dark edge to it that I don’t recognize.

Jade stands and moves toward me fast. I lift my hand to push her back before I use it to push her up into the air.

She screams out in rage again, which makes me laugh.

“For you, just like your friend Mist, a life for a life.” I lift my other hand, fist them both before I pull them apart, Jade’s body rips in two, her guts are trailing between her body parts before they drop to the ground, bloody sprays over me.

I just stare at her limp, dead body hanging in the air.

There is something beautifully poetic about this moment.

She had spent so much time breaking me apart that now it was her time.

My hand closes, releasing her of my powers, her body drops to the floor with a loud thud before she turns into dust. I can’t help the smile on my lips; I feel so alive in this moment.

This has been a long time coming, and now I'm ready for more.

Clapping makes me turn around; Macy is standing at the top of the stairs, watching me. Her eyes are bright red and laced with anger. She looks at the reapers behind me, curling her lip, before pulling some of her anger back and smiling at me.

“I must admit, when they told me that you had come back, I didn’t think I would still find you alive. Jade and Mist have been with me for a long time; both are very powerful.” She walks down a couple of steps.

“Not as powerful as me,” I say, moving to the bottom of the stairs and looking up at her.

“I can see that now,” she laughs lightly. “Are you here to kill me also?” A hint of amusement clouds her voice.

“Yes” is all I say. She nods her head slowly, her hand clenching and unclenching; she narrows her eyes at me. “I am the princess of Hell, Book Reader; you will not beat me so easily.”

I can’t help the smirk that covers my lips. “Is that a dare?”

Taking a step back, she is going to think it’s out of fear, but it’s not.

It’s because if we’re going to fight, I need a little more room to throw her around. “I would be careful what you ask for.”

She laughs, throwing her head back. “I am never careful, tell me. Did Gaelan tell you how much he enjoyed his stay here yesterday?” She raises an eyebrow.

I know she is trying to bait me; it’s not going to work this time.

Shaking my head, I let Lexus flash over my skin for a second, turning it white, then back to my honey-colored skin.

“He did. He enjoyed the part where I came and got him, took him back to our home, and fucked that drug you gave him out of his body.” I can’t help the smug sound of my voice.

She wanted him all for herself, and it backfired.

She hisses at me with anger before shimmering from the stairs.

I step back again and look to my left, trying to see where she has gone.

I turn to look to the right, she appears there fast, her fist connects with my face, punching me hard, sending me flying backwards to the ground.

I laugh a little and then spit out a mouthful of blood from my lips, lifting a hand to wipe my mouth.

“Why?” I look up at her. “What did I ever do to you?” she steps closer to me, I can see the anger simmering over her body, her eyes look so much darker.

“You were born, they gave it all to you, some dirty daemon witch.” She says harshly.

She lifts her hand, sending a wave of red lightning my way.

I try to roll out of the way, but I feel the heat tickle along my ankle before the skin starts to burn and run up my leg.

Gasping, I watch as my gold spells move to cover the burn, taking the evil powers and pulling them into my body, and the skin then heals. The spells remain.

“They even gave you a fucking daemon, the only female in all of the underworld to have one.” She sends another bolt of lightning at me.

I lift my hand, deflecting it and pushing into one of the walls.

It hits, smashing the stone and leaving a vast, crumbling crater.

Lexus giggles, “When can I rip her head off?” A quick smile flashes over my lips, “soon,” I whisper.

I slowly stand. “I didn’t ask for all of this,” I yell at her.

“Then give it to me, I will take it,” she pleads with me, her voice sounds so desperate.

“Why? What good is it to you, you’re already the princess of hell.” A frown mars my face, not knowing why she would want all of this.

“Because I want to be first, because he will love me and not him.” Her eyes narrow, and she huffs out a breath.

I can’t help but laugh. “All of this because you have some kind of boyfriend issues?” I take a step closer; she growls low at me.

“They should have given it all to me, the powers, the lord, and my father’s kingdom.

Not you and not him,” she seethes, making me frown again.

“Unless he is fucking Voldemort, say his name, who is he?” my voice full of frustration.

“It does not matter, either way, I am last. again.” She steps closer to me now, grinning, “But at least I can have another go, kill you, and I get the lord.”

“You’re already in so much power, you live in a palace, Gaelan would be below you,” she smirks at me. “Gaelan isn’t just any lord; his father was a firstborn, he was touched by the devil himself and sat next to him, Gaelan is a second born Lord, so he is second in command to the Daemon leader.”

“Who is the leader?” I ask. Gaelan never told me if there was a leader; he didn’t even tell me that his father was friends with the devil.

She makes all this sound like a daemon gang is waiting around somewhere.

Macy shrugs. “No one knows, it’s not daddy,” she laughs, as if it brings her joy. Her father isn’t as powerful as everyone believes.

She shimmers in a whip with some kind of claw at the end of it.

“Enough,” she barks at me. “Let’s finish this so I can go back to living my life.

” She steps closer to me, “until you are born again, of course.” An evil grin crosses her face before she flicks the whip.

As if it has a mind of its own, it flies toward me.

It wraps around my wrist, the claws biting into my skin, making blood pour from the wound.

I cry out and try to pull my wrist free, but each time I move it, it digs in deeper.

I fall to the ground, bow over in pain. Macy starts to laugh hard; she yanks on the whip, pulling my arms from under me so she can drag me closer to her.

When I’m lying at her feet, she lowers and looks me in the eyes.

“Do not worry, I will look after Gaelan when you are gone,” she says as she lifts her hand.

Still, mine is faster as I wrap my fingers around her neck and squeeze tight, cutting off her breath.

She goes to lift the other hand, but my tail is more rapid and wraps around it, pulling it down.

The whip around my wrists starts to dissolve; my skin slowly fades to white, and my markings cover more of my body.

Lexus

“You no touch mate.” Her eyes go wide. Ari laughs in my head at our little trick. She might be the stupid Princess of Hell, but I am Lady Daemon.

Now entirely in my daemon form, I stand up slowly, taking her with me. I lift her up into the air and growl low.

“You do not hurt Ari or Gaelan anymore. You do not hurt us,” my voice thick with hate.

I pull my arm back a little, then throw her across the room.

The Reapers float quickly out of the way as she passes.

Using my powers, I hold her against the wall.

I jump up into the air, my wings emerging from my back and flapping, so I am at her level.

“I am Tate’s daughter. I cannot just be killed; my bloodline will not allow it.” She smiles at me.

I smirk. “Your bloodline might not, but mine will.” I close my eyes and pull all of my powers to me.

I can feel my book pages in Westrey flutter; the spell on my side burns my skin.

We can feel our past lives; all of my family's souls gather for this, and the power from each of them circles around me. I throw my head back, my eyes glowing bright gold, lighting up the room like the sun on a hot summer’s day, and the voices in my head are back.

I can feel each one, and it makes me smile with tears running down my cheeks.

I thought they had left me when I got my powers, but they didn’t; they have been here all this time, inside of me.

“Little one, so powerful”

“She is the power.”

“This ends with you.”

“Fuck this bitch up.”

“We are ready, pudding.”

“Arianna, my girl, we got this.”

“We love you, so proud.”

My lips wobble as I smile. I take a deep breath and let the feeling of my family and love wash over me as we all speak as one.

“Sanguis sanguinis, anima ad animam, sume quod ipsorum est et fac illum meum. Voco in potentiis preteritorum et presentium, vocamus superne magnas potestates. Accipe et da, queso, precipe tibi.”

Blood of blood, soul to soul, take what is theirs and make it mine. I call on the powers of both past and present; we call on the great powers from above. Take and give, I ask thee, we command thee.

Macy screams out, and I watch as her hair turns blonde, her skin lightens in color, and her eyes go green. I lower us both a little, then freeze her again midair.

I continue to the ground and look at the daemon with no powers, crying and looking at me like I should care, my eyes narrowing at her. “You no hurt us,” I scold.

I watch her cry for a moment, then I pull back; my body gets smaller, my skin filling with color as Ari shifts forward. This kill is hers. She deserves this.

My body is now fully back, and I can still feel Lexus under my skin, close by if I need her.

A part of me doesn’t want to kill Macy, to leave her like this with no power, living life like a non-supernatural would make her suffer more.

But I know she would find a way to get her powers back, or she would pay someone else to try and kill me.

“Can not kill me, can you?” She laughs at me, and I can’t help but laugh back.

I fist my hands and split her rib cage open with my powers and pull her lungs out, I watch as they land on the floor, followed by her heart and other vital organs, her eyes stare at me in bewilderment before the light in them dies and she turns to dust.

“I can,” I whisper.
