JOSHUA

When I wake up to find Caitlyn lying in bed beside me, I think I must be dreaming. Then the memories of the night before return, and a grin covers my face.

It really happened.

I can’t believe that Caitlyn and I actually slept together.

I hate that it happened because David cheated on her, but I won’t say I’m not glad that the bastard showed his true colors.

Even if nothing had happened between Cait and I, I’m …

well, not happy. Seeing her cry broke my heart, but at least she knows the truth now.

And, from everything she said last night, she isn’t going to fall for his fake apology and empty promises again.

I don’t think she would have slept with me if she had any intention of going back to David. Caitlyn isn’t like that.

I just hope this can be the start of something between us.

I know it’s fast, and Caitlyn still has to process David cheating on her, but God.

She’s perfect. The reality of making love to her was better than anything I could ever imagine.

Caitlyn is the most beautiful woman I’ve met, and her body felt amazing.

She’s lithe and toned from her time in the gym, but still curvy in all the right places, with amazing, firm, pert breasts.

And the way she moved when I was inside her …

the sounds she made … God, I’m getting hard just thinking about it.

I don’t want Caitlyn thinking I only want her for sex though. Yes, the sex was amazing, but this could be so much more.

I get out of bed, and head to the bathroom to shower, before I make my way downstairs, planning on surprising Caitlyn with breakfast in bed.

I’m just serving up pancakes, with bacon and syrup, when she enters the kitchen. I’m shocked to see she’s wearing the same dress from the night before.

“You could have borrowed my sweats, you know,” I say, making us both coffees. “I have the day off today, so I figured we could spend it together.”

Caitlyn bites her bottom lip, unable to meet my gaze. “I’m sorry Josh, I can’t stay.”

Not wanting to seem needy and desperate, I say, “Okay. Can I call you later?”

“I don’t know,” Caitlyn replies, before racing out of the room.

Before I can process what’s going on, she’s out the front door, and getting in her car, leaving me standing on the doorstep dumbstruck.

Figuring she needs time to process, I head back to the kitchen to eat breakfast alone.

I’m just finishing off, and debating what to do with Caitlyn’s serving, when the front door opens, and then Tucker enters the kitchen.

“Ah, bro, you shouldn’t have,” he says, devouring the pancakes and coffee without a second glance.

It isn’t until his plate is empty that Tucker pauses, his brows drawing together. “Wait. How did you know when I’d be home? And even if you did, you would never cook breakfast for me. Oh my god, do you have a woman here?”

He looks around, as though expecting someone to pop out of the cupboards or something.

“Go on, bro, spill. Who is she? Some chick you met leaving the bar?”

I join my brother at the breakfast bar, knowing there’s no way Tucker is letting me get away without the truth. Besides, I could use his insight into what happened.

“It was Caitlyn,” I confess.

Tucker’s eyes widen and he grins. “Good on you, Man. I’m glad you finally worked up the courage to tell her how you feel. But wait, isn’t she engaged to that David guy? What happened to you saying it wouldn’t be right to make a move on her while she’s in a relationship?”

I sigh. “He cheated on her.”

I turn the coffee maker on for more drinks and relay the whole story for my brother. When I’m done, Tucker is frowning.

“What’s that face for?”

“Well, it’s never a good sign when a chick hurries off like that, is it? I’m usually the one making a hasty exit because I don’t want anything serious.”

My shoulders slump as reality slaps me in the face. “It was a one off, wasn’t it?”

“Probably. She’ll most likely ghost you or pretend like nothing happened.”

“God, I hope not. I understand she’s got a lot to process, and I don’t expect her to jump into another relationship so soon after David … Shit, you don’t think she’ll get back with him, do you?”

Tucker shrugs. “I dunno man, she’s your chick not mine. But from everything you’ve told me about last night, it sounds like she’s done with his shit.”

I take a long swallow of coffee, my earlier good mood slowly vanishing as reality sinks in. “God, I hope not. I hope this will be the start of something between us. But even if it isn’t, it will kill me seeing her go back to him. He doesn’t deserve her. He never did.”

“I ain’t gonna argue that. You know me, Josh, I’ll never commit to one woman, but I’m always honest about my intentions. I don’t cheat. Cheaters make me sick.”

“What do you think I should do now?”

“If it were me, I'd write it off as a great night and move on,” Tucker says, and I’m not really surprised by his response. “But I’m not you. I know how you feel about Caitlyn. I’d give her a few days to process everything, and then tentatively reach out. Maybe take her to dinner?”

“Yeah, I’ll give her some space, and then reach out,” I say, knowing playing it cool instead of coming on too strongly is probably the best course of action. “So, I don’t have work today. Wanna hang out?”

Tucker grins. “Absolutely.”
