Chapter 15 #2

I saw one approaching her from behind. He lifted his weapon and shakily aimed in her direction, but I was much faster than him. He didn’t even have a chance to get off a shot before I put a sun fire bullet directly in the center of his skull.

The darkness of night dragged on. The brilliant flashes of light all around me were a sight for sore eyes because I knew it was my men fighting to keep what was theirs.

The vampires fought on like they had no other choice. They were leaderless and they fell into chaos. I observed the battlefield while searching for signs of the rest of Amir’s pack, but there didn’t seem to be any. They’d most likely retreated at Amir’s command.

Either way, it didn’t matter to me. I’d never intended to kill my former brethren anyway.

When we ran out of bullets, we kept fighting with stakes. I had several stored on the belt around my waist and I gave Ashleigh a quick lesson on how to properly stake a vampire in a way that was quick, deep, and brutal, while also allowing her to reuse it on the next one that came her way.

I swatted her bottom hard and she squealed, but she leapt up and jumped on an unsuspecting vamp’s back. She slammed the stake down and used her body to roll off of him before he fell, bringing the stake along with her as she went.

She stood up, smirking back at me with victory.

“How was that?” she sassed.

“That’ll do,” I replied with a grin.

She spun hard, gripping the stake tight in her fingers and taking out another.

Her movements were like a dance, swift, graceful, and utterly breathtaking.

I found myself getting distracted by her a fair number of times.

One time, I almost ran straight into a vampire and a stake from Theo’s crossbow was the only thing that stopped him dead in his tracks.

The battle lasted long into the night. My allies fought hard.

When the vampires finally realized that they were quickly losing numbers and their defeat was inevitable, many of them started to flee.

I knew several would escape. I made no move to hunt them down or stop them if they stopped putting their hands on my pack and the people under my protection.

They would return to their homes and tell everyone of my power. The stories would spread that my mate and I had killed Vincenzo Venuti and Augustus Malkovian, two of the most powerful vampire kingpins on Earth.

By the time the sun rose, the road was littered with dead vampires and the battle had ended.

Immediately, my pack switched into recovery mode.

The bodies were gathered and disposed of.

Big bonfires popped up all over the place.

Vampires disintegrated pretty quickly when directly exposed to an open flame, leaving the only evidence of their existence a smattering of dark ash on the wind.

There was no sign of Amir and his wolves.

In the chaos, several of my own pack members had fallen.

The vampires had been armed with guns, but many of them had forsaken them in the interest of fighting with their own hands instead.

Some of them, however, had been good enough shots to take out my men.

Theo and Atreyu directed my allies in the gathering of the bodies. Over the next several days, we would bury them and give them the sending off that they deserved, but I wanted to make sure my still living people were taken care of first.

Ashleigh helped as much as she could, but soon enough her exhaustion outweighed her. I took her hand in mine and put a stop to it before she collapsed.

“Wait. Let me go, Elijah. They need my help,” she replied, trying to jerk her fingers free from me.

“Unless you want me to tear off those pretty jeans and spank your bottom in front of everyone here, you will come with me and get some rest,” I warned, and her lips slammed shut. Her eyes narrowed though, so I decided to continue.

“My belt is much thicker than the one I’ve used before, little wolf. It will sting far more when I mark your bottom, your thighs, and your bare little pussy with it,” I said loudly.

Her face flamed beautifully as she glanced around to see if anyone had heard me. Theo smirked not far away from me, which only served to deepen her shame.

“I understand you wish to help, little wolf, and I commend you for it. You are exhausted though. You will get some rest and if there is more to do when you wake, I will be by your side doing whatever needs to be done. Do you understand me?” I pushed.

The fury almost seemed to bleed right out of her. After several tense moments where I very seriously contemplated the fate of her bare ass, she sighed and nodded, almost as if she was finally accepting the fact that she was, in fact, very tired. She nodded and licked her lips.

“Yes, alpha, I understand,” she replied, and I sighed happily at her obedience.

“That’s my good girl,” I answered, and her face lit up. Her fingers squeezed mine and I held her close as I called Theo over. I quickly gave him orders, insisting that the wolves that were hurt be attended to as a priority.

“Don’t worry, boss. I’ve got it handled,” Theo shouted with a grin.

“I know you do. You will inform me if there are any problems,” I continued.

“I will. Take your mate somewhere safe,” he answered, winking heartily as he did so. I smirked in return as Ashleigh studied the exchange between us. I was delighted to see her blush redden even further.

“I plan on it,” I replied, and I didn’t listen to a single word out of my mate’s mouth when I tossed her over my shoulder and carried her off to my chalet.
