Chapter 6 The Call from Abroad
When I woke up, Qi Qian and his mother had already left.
They left a note: "There’s porridge warming in the pot. Remember to drink it. I left dishes in the fridge. Eat everything."
I ladled a bowl of porridge in the kitchen and took a sip. So good I squinted.
All these years, the reason I couldn’t bring myself to cut Qi Qian off was because his cooking was just too delicious.
My phone rang while I was thinking.
I thought it was Fu Zeyan.
I answered with a hello, about to say Husband, when a voice came through: “Wanwan, I’m back!”
I froze, instinctively wanting to ask which Husband you were.
Then I realized—I only had three Husbands.
So I asked, “You are...”
There was the sound of something smashing on the other end. After a long pause, the voice said, “What? You don’t even recognize Brother’s voice anymore?”
My adopted brother?
Only then did I remember. The Su family had an adopted son—the son of my father’s war buddy.
His parents had passed away. My father brought him home and raised him.
Later, when the Su family nearly went bankrupt, he went abroad to develop his career. We barely kept in touch for years.
From what I remembered, he had a rather dark personality.
But he had always been good to me.
I tried carefully. “Pei Muchen?”
The person on the line sounded delighted. “I knew it. Wanwan wouldn’t forget Brother.”
“Where are you? Are you up? Brother will send someone to pick you up.”
I was about to say no need, I had things to do.
Then I thought—Pei Muchen suddenly returning might mean something happened with the Su family. So I said, “I’m at the old house. Send me the address. I’ll drive over myself later.”
Pei Muchen said, “Good. I’ll be waiting!”
I finished the porridge, drove to the address Pei Muchen sent.
It was a huge office building.
“W Group?”
A secretary who looked like a mature beauty greeted me warmly.
“Yes, Miss Su. President Pei is the chairman and CEO of W Group, also the founder and largest shareholder.”
I was stunned.
W Group was a new company that had risen in recent years. In just a few years, its market value had soared past hundreds of billions.
The founder was actually the quiet adopted son of the Su family?
What did he want from me? To show off?
And... why did this secretary’s voice sound so familiar?
